Hotel is in a great location, few metres from Charles Bridge and close to Old times square. Lovely antique decor and furniture. Negatives - the cleaning staff wanting to do room service before 9am on a Sunday morning. The interrogation we felt from the older male receptionist when we were checking into the hotel and the lack of welcome or friendliness from him. The fire hazard of having to lock and unlock a security gate on the stairs to access the hotel after 7pm. There is no lift in the hotel which is a bit of a trek if you are on the higher floors, along with the creakiness of the floorboards all over the hotel, which can be heard early mor and late night.

Response from Petr Bauer, Owner at Hotel U Zlateho Stromu
Responded Jan 16, 2024
Dear MrsKCIreland, thank you very much for your review. Our hotel is situated directly in the middle of center so it can be sometimes little bit more noisier, we are sorry for that. We hope you have enjoyed your stay at least a little bit. Thank you for your visit.

Avoid at all cost. They have the rudest waiters who want to get rid of customers. They wouldnt let you just order drinks. Then you get a bill that says SUGGESTED tip of 12.5% but the waiter will tell you that you SHOULD pay the full 12.5 percent tip.

Great location..Be warned Avoid this hotel at all costs, the management and staff are unbelievably rude obnoxious and in every way,7 of us came too this hotel which is split into 2 buildings the rooms 1-20 are up a urine disgusting alley 20 and above aren't any better no lift be prepared if any medical issue, breakfast was basic go round the corner get a hundred times better for same price . Be prepared too pay tourist tax 400 crowns at checking out no explanation of it when we arrived. ..the hotel won't sell a coffee or tea or juice before 11am they tell you to buy the breakfast . If you stay in the urine alley building you font get a gate key too reception or able to visit your friends easily one friend had too come down stairs too let you in even when your a guest ..just AVOID...I can't stress this enough. Hotel feels like its run by thugs its not a family or friendly environment ..now the manager was abrasive dismissive and couldn't care less about his guests . reception staff not in anyway helpful ..I do not usually write reviews but in this case I had too..do not except anything from this hotel apart from disappointment and anger . As I said great location just find another hotel nearby.

This is my personal experience in the hotel. Myself my wife and 2 friends stayed here for 4 nights. First off, it's not wheelchair friendly. The hotel itself is on the second floor of the building, our rooms were either side of the reception area. This was noisy at times but not too much. There are no lifts on the premises, everything is accessible by stairs only. Rooms are a great size, although the furniture, at least in our room, could be updated. There is a mini bar, drinks and snacks in the room, all of which must be paid for. Being a holiday destination city they have city tax, about €4 a night per person. What we did not realise was that you must pay a deposit for your stay, around €110 , this is given back to you after you leave if you haven't had anything in the room to eat or drink and no damage is caused. It can take up to 30 days to receive the refund however ours arrived the following day. No issues with food ,personally. Drinks are on average the same as in Ireland but the local beers are cheaper. The hotel website needs Updating as some features are gone ie , the nightclub is not all its cracked up to be. There is noise outside at night, some nights more than others. The location is perfect for site seeing, Charles Bridge is just across the road. If we are back in Prague in the future I'd definitely stay there again. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Lovely authentic hotel right in the heart of the city. Lovely staff and great breakfast. There is no lift and quite a lot of stairs so bear in mind. I would definitely recommend this as a great spot for taking in the city with easy access to all the main sights. Do not be put off by the fact there is a nightclub in the basement of the premises. This did not impact nor cause any noise issues.

Hotel U Zlateho Stromu is right next to Charles Bridge. The room we stayed was clean and decorated with good taste. Bed is big and good. The bathroom is clean and nicely decorated as well. As the building is old there is no air-condition so in hot summer days room is quite hot. Old building also do not have elevator and even the reception is in second floor. The alley the hotel is located is also quite busy even in night times and in downstairs there is a music bar which is open till 5 am so if you want silent nights – that’s not gonna happen. If you do not care about the noise, heat and missing elevator – this is your choice in a hearth of Prague

We stopped for dinner as the location is lovely and be aware of the scam, we asked for a pizza, a pasta dish a beer and a bottle of water. they brought straight away a basket with bread and a jar of water THAT WE DIDNT ASK FOR. as I read already about the bread of basket scam we didn't touch it, same with jar of water as i ordered a bottle one. food was ok, and while we were eating a group of Asian tourists behind us got their bill and started to look uncomfortable and sounding upset, but they paid and left. that made me aware of what will come when we got our bill, we got charged for the bread we didn't touch, glass of water and tip straight away I complained and waitress seemed to don't understand, so i asked for manager to come over, a HUGE guy came looking not happy to see me and in very bad English said we had to pay for those items because we touched them, i insisted we didn't, but he was not giving up, so I started to raise my voice to make sure other guests could hear me and that was the only way I could get him to change the bill and removed those items. obviously this place is a trap for tourists so AVOID it

Unclear how this hotel has received the ratings and reviews making it 4/5. Complimentary earplugs, poor glazing and a pole dancing bar underneath should be all you need to know to stay clear and not risk this hotel.

This hotel is right on the main drag going from the Charles Bridge to old town. The staff was wonderful - Sabina and Emma helped us change rooms from a twin bedded room ( in the building next door ) to a king in the main building. And we can't say enough wonderful things about Natalia at breakfast. She was always smiling and asking if we needed anything. Natalia was just wonderful to see each morning. This hotel is really quaint, and having a bar and restaurant attached is a bonus. The food was great and it was nice to take a beer up to our room when we would return for the day. Breakfast was really good. You had choices of hot and cold along with croissants, fruit and desserts. And unlimited coffee - bonus !
