Have been visiting this beach for nearly 30 .years. Not much has changed, still a choice of river beach or sea beach and still the solitary beach bar. One road in and same road out. Parking facilities have been improved since back in the day.
Favoured by surfers but popular with all kinds of beach goers. Sadly, winter storms have eroded away a swathe of the dunes behind the beach and were still doing so at high tide. Hence, aim for for the river beach, the dunes or to the right of the beach bar if you don't want to have to relocate when the tide advances. Lovely beach though, at any time of day.

A fantastic beach which has been awarded a Blue Flag.HOWEVER, there are notices at the beginning of all paths which lead to the beach which CLEARLY states that dogs are not allowed. Many people walk straight past this notice WITH THEIR DOG and take them onto the beach. This is my only complaint but Its a big one.

Beautiful beach situated near the village of Aljezur. On this beach we can take baths in the sea and in the river that drains in it. It has an extensive sand and dunes. Enjoy the detail of the black rock at the northern top of the beach reminiscent of a giant lying down. The narrow road to the beach, along 8 km, is tarred. The beach has a bar-restaurant with terrace. There is also a car park, stairs and wooden access walkway and is watched over by rescuing swimmers during the bathing season. One has to be very careful with the sea baths, whose currents are very treacherous.

This is a lovely beach enhanced by the lovely estuary. Great for walking and floating in the river.
Yet again getting too many surfers in the season.
Most surfers are shipped in by transit from the bottom of the Algarve, Lagos, Alvor etc...
These surfers spend little or nothing in this beautiful area.
Aljezur area is dieing and needs more people staying and spending money not just day tripping for surf.

very wild and large and beautiful beach, the dunes make it very special and offers sort of private/isolated space for groups, in a natural ways. Also good for beach sports and surf

One of the best beaches ever. You have the waves crashing on one point and the calm stretch by the river...so everyone gets a chance to enjoy .

We drove from Lagos for the day. Make sure you get the road to the Restaurant and not the one to the other end of the beach (near the river) as there is no entrance to the beach.
Surf schools and quite impressive swells probably not so good for small children, however the river at the far end of the beach allows for fantastic floating a few hundred yards to the ocean edge. Awesome intertidal pools at low tide too.

We went here on a hot and windy day with two small kids, 4&7. You can go up river from the beach which gives you safer waters, but when the water is leaving there is a strong current - for the kids. The waves are great for body boarding with the small ones as they come in very long.
