This is a beach that combines best of both words, calm river waters and strong surfing waves. The sunsets are beautiful. There are plenty of parking spaces up on the cliffs although it can get busy. Make sure you get there early or come late in the afternoon.

Discovered Odeceixe and Odeceixe Beach in March 2020. Stayed overnight at the BEACH. Beautiful, spectacular, cute and affordable. Wonderful huge beach with both Atalntic ocean waves and a swimable fresh water river. Our accomodation was in a clean tidy unit with a view of the river. Lots of rooms for rent, but I am sure resevations are a MUST in peak season. At night the stars from the beach were amazing. The Cervejaria Restaurant had a spectacular view and delicious food. Classic Portuguese service to. This out of the normal, Portuguese location is worth the drive on the old highways, on the Algarve/Alentejo border. Go, you will not be dissappointed.

The perfect beach. Beautiful sand, not too crowded in September, pristinely clean. Also, the Agapito bar just up the stairs serves excellent drinks, snacks and coffee. There's also a precious little naturist beach located a minutes walk away.

a bit dangerous in the summer becuase of the crowd and the rip currents on both sides there is not much room for beginers if you want to respect the signs

Praia de Odeceixe has got to be one of my favourite beaches in Portugal! The pictures really don’t do it justice. The waves on the ocean side was a bit rough with the wind when we visited but our favourite part was where the ocean meets the river. The water is super clear and you can walk on the shallow water/sandbank. The current is a bit strong here but fun for floating down the river.
The river side of the beach is calm and less windy.
The whole beach was quiet and pretty with white sand.

This is a great beach with a little freshwater river flowing out. If you have kids, the shallow river is a great place for them to play in the water. I hardly went into the ocean, since that's more tempting for surfers, but the ocean and the cliffs provide for nice scenery.
This place also has one of the most scenic restrooms in the world; when you step out the door you have a fantastic view of the entire beach and cliffs (probably most pictures you see of the beach are actually taken standing in front of the restroom.)

Most people who come here have done so for years now. This beach has a little something for everyone, from surfers to families with kids. It's a blue flag beach with its very own unique "rituals", like the tourist train taking people from the village to the beach and the "closing of the beach" at the end of the day.

sorry, but I am not aware of there being any beach chairs for hire. We visited Odeceixe beach from about 20 km away and don't know of any local hotels.

We stayed in the village of Odeceixe just inland from the beach at the Casas Do Moinho very comfortable in small studio apartments with breakfast which were excellent. You need transport of some kind as the beach is about 5k from the village. There were several other places offering accommodation in the village and I believe I remember seeing accommodation on offer in the small settlement above the beach. The region is very hilly, but there were lots of people walking or cycling the coastal path.
