Beautiful Italian castle set amongst rolling hills. Wide selection of restaurants and photo opportunities. Highly recommended. Prices at eateries are very reasonable considering the surroundings.

You can tour just the castle or the castle and the walls - be sure to buy a ticket that includes both, as the walls give you such a great view of the village itself and the surrounding area.

A small well presented castle in a walled town. Plenty of history but sadly some of the mural art was painted over in the 1920's. Fabulous views from the walls around the town. Pick a clear day to visit.

If you are on holiday in Gabicce, you must definitely make a visit to Gradara which you can reach by bus 130 or by the road train (which costs twice as much as the bus).
The walk on the walls (cost 3 Euro, perhaps excessive) will offer you a breathtaking view of the hills and the sea.

We walked to the train station from our hotel. Got bus tickets from the ticket office. Took the bus number 130. Make sure you validate your ticket on the bus.
We walked a little distance up hop from the bus stop towards the castle which is soo beautiful.
We purchased tickets to go inside the castle and on the castle walls, inside in the castle you will read more about the love story which was quite gruesome.
We visited the inside of the castle then did the castle walls.
The entrance to the castle walls is at the bell tower on the left (when you have the castle at your back.
Definitely worth the visit, the views from the castle windows and the wall walk we’re stunning

This was a COVID summer visit, after a previous visit 5 years before. The castle was set up to avoid social distancing, while in reality, this created a large queue in the old streets outside the castle, with no social distancing and a very slow look around parts of the castle. Where some of the best parts such as the atmospheric dungeon and armoury were not accessible along with the chapel. The visit lost all of its spontaneity for the children with us, while the second party we'd invited to join us, were obviously disappointed in the choice of venue. If you see a queue outside the castle, don't join it, as there will be more inside, while they walk around circa 20 rooms will take far longer than required if the access is un-impeded.

From the outside, the castle is so big and pretty. It is located on a hill where you see the town around and the ocean. Unfortunately, only a very small part of the castle can be visited. In my tour, I was the only non-Italian speaker in the group and the guide did not bother speaking English or French to me. She asked me to read the English translation on the wall at the entrance of each room and yet, we stayed 5 to 10 minutes in each room and she would give detailed explanation in Italian. But it was certainly worth the cost.

We enjoy places that aren’t completely over-run with tourists. Gradara definitely has tourists, but not too bad compared with many locales. It is a very interesting old town and, like most in Italy, be prepared for the uphill climbs from time to time. If you are in this part of Italy, I would definitely recommend it. It also has many very good restaurants.

Abbiamo parcheggiato all'ultimo dei posteggi.
