As many other posts have indicated it's good to reserve a spot before you arrive. Instead of Punkva we could still book a tour to the other caves in the same system. These were a lot less spectacular and the tour unfortunately was in Czech so we didn't catch a lot of the information.

Still nice but probably not close to Punkva ... so book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Ok, so the caves are super cool. You should email in advance to make a reservation during the summer. After your visit, take a walk (or cable car) up to the top of the Gorge, then visit the Katerinska Caves. Be prepared to be in a big group - ours was full of kids. We made a full day of it, and enjoyed lunch in town near the caves.

The most difficult part for us was getting there from Brno! So hopefully these instructions will help someone;

First buy a 5 zone, 120 minute transit pass. Costs about 42 czk, or less than 2 euros.

Take train S2 from Brno Hl. n. to Blankso (we had to leave from a different station, Brno Zidenice since there's some construction at the main train station).

Take bus 226 from Blansko to Skalni Mlyn

Buy your tickets at the info center in Skalni Mlyn at least 40 minutes before your visit

Walk the 20 minutes to the cave, or take the train for a few euros (100 czk).

Easy once you figure it out, but hard to figure out for us! Use google maps to figure out train/bus times, because they're fairly infrequent. The return train/bus was at 3:12pm and 5:12pm from Skalni Mlyn on weekdays.

1) Pre-book a week out if at all possible. I don't have the website available but look it up. You can book online. The Brno Tourist Office has an info sheet for the Punkva Cave Ticket office, which is how I got the phone number, and also has info on other caves.

I was traveling solo, called the ticket office the day before, and following instructions. Because I showed up on a Sunday EARLY and was only one person, I was able to get a ticket for the 10 AM tour that day.

2) If you don't have your own car, you either walk an hour plus to the ticket booth and another 20 minutes to the cave entrance, you call a radio taxi for 180 CZK, which can be shared, or you take bus 226 for 10 CZK to the location mentioned by the previous poster about this. From the ticket office, you either walk about 20 minutes to the cave entrance, or can buy a round trip ticket on the train for 90 CZK.

3) The woman answering the phone at the ticket booth for the Cave is very helpful and speaks excellent English. She also knew about the bus service. No one anywhere else seemed to have this information, including at the tourist office.

4) The bus station is across the road behind the train station. I checked the schedule and bus 226 runs hourly. I took it from the caves at 1:00 PM on a Sunday to the bus station, walked to the train station and caught the train back to Brno.

5) If you don't have a car, you can see both the Punkva and St. Catherine's caves, as the latter is a short walk from the Punkva ticket office. Other caves are at least a good hour's walk from this location.

The woman at the Punkva ticket office indicated that the bus 226 may stop at other caves, as it doesn't just go from the bus station to the Punkva ticket office. If interested, you would have to call the ticket office and make additional inquiries.

Beautiful journey through the Moravian most stunning cave afoot and by boat. The final of the trip resembling Lord of Rings adventure.

This cave had some notable formations as most caves do but the boat ride at the end really sets it apart as a unique experience. We visited on a weekday and had no problems getting tickets but this was in may before high season. Would advise walking to the cave from the parking area as it is a nice hike along a stream and then buy a one way ride on the train back

Suppose it was still Off season and we showed up early (before 10) so we could join a tour without having booked ahead. Getting there involved a drive around huge and decrepit looking factories which by themselves could warrant some exciting foto tours.
From the main station where you buy the tickets you either walk up along a tar road to the cave entrance (easy) or take the tourist train.
In the cave the Tour is in Czech, at first I tried to follow by reading the pamphlet they gave out, but gave up after a short while. Just enjoy the scenery and later the boat ride. The rocks you glide under are hanging Low. Tall people beware. And the best seats are in front, behind you kind of crane your neck to see the surroundings.

Seen every baroque castle and church between here and Amsterdam?
Then try these caves for a natural cathedral that is well worth the visit. The usual stalactites and stalagmites but with a long and fun underground boat ride plus ... the big reveal, you emerge from a cave into Massive opening that is simply breath taking. Good value and worth the trip. We took along an English speaking guide and really enjoyed about a 2 hour visit.

Amazing! A must see. Limited number of tickets available each day so book in advance. If you didn't book in advance, go early as unclaimed tickets become available. Several other options if main attraction is sold out so it's worth the chance if you didn't book it. There is a 2 KM walk to the caves from the car park or you can pay to take a train. The walk is beautiful and peaceful. Caves are very cold so bring a jacket or jumper. Floor surface is damp so wear shoes with good traction.

Great tour of one of Moravia's hidden treasures. This complex of caves is stunning, though the guide was only speaking Czech (my Czech is limited) I could still understand enough of what was being said, especially as the paper guide given was in English.

It's not too steep in climbs or price, would recommend.

Really amazing caves! The boat trip was awesome. The guides only speak Czech though so you have to read the leaflet! Would advise pre-booking.
