volcanic scrambling
led 2020
bit of a faff to get to: buy tickets in malargue, join a convoy and drive out, pay more for guide, drive to another car park, then 20 minutes later you are in the heart of the volcano. Interesting volcanic landscape and the chimneys are quite impressive. some minor scrambling involved but nothing dramatic

How many times can you say you have actually been inside a volcans main chimney?
Some great colors inside and some nice spiders too LOL
A guide will take you and explain everything.... usually in Spanish.

A walk inside volcano
pro 2018 • Pár
We took a tour by Karen Travel as this volcan is situated on private property and the owners will only allow tour companies access. the Volcan Malacara blew much of one face of the volcano outwards and so you have the opportunity to walk inside this extinct (hopefully) volcano. This is an excellent tour highly recommended but would be unsuitable for those who are physically impaired as there is a fair amount of scrabbling over rock and walking through some very narrow passages and climbing short ladders until you enter the central core of the volcano.
Again a brilliant trip, access is on ripio (dirt) roads and we finished the tour by driving close to the European Space Agencies Radio Telescope.

What a experience...

I traveled a lot but this is the first time I walked a Volcano!. The journey takes around 2 hours and needs to be booked in advance as it’s a guided tour. The agency is located next to the casino so you make the reservation and pay part of the price. If you have car you can go on your own but again, you need to book first. I would not try to go directly to the volcano. Book first!. The walk is easy and pleasant, the scene is amazing, take a look at the pictures!.

Breathtaking!

This was one of my favourite experiences in 2 months of travelling through southern Argentina. The site is breathtakingly beautiful and pristine. The larval rock formations created by the effect of wind and water are stunning. Inside the chimney is a dark and tranquil place. Amazing! Our tour was even more enjoyable because our guide, Valentino, was also a gem. We spent 3 hours walking though the formations and in the chimney. Please note you have to buy your entry ticket in the town of Malargue (near the tourist information office). A further small fee is payable to the guide on site. If you are in the area- don't miss this attraction. If you are not - it is worth a big detour!

How often do you walk into a volcano?
kvě 2013 • Pár
If Malargue is not enough for a visitor, the food, the accommodations and the welcome of the people, there is something that is going to get you out of this world, and that is Volcan Mala Cara, where you walk (literally walk) inside the volcano. The guide gives the group a very good description of how the volcanoes are "born" and then, how they "die". The sort of labyrinth in volcanic rocks tells you the rest. Need extra water, comfortable shoes and light jacket. Sun block recommended, and don't let the camera at the hotel, you are going to blame yourselves.
