A lovely little lake with some nice restaurants where you can eat authentic cuisine from the area cheap. Nice hiking trails nearby!

This place up in the mountains is a real gem.
They have a couple of restaurants which are open during season (short window if you want to catch them), and a number of marked walks from a mile or two up to about 6 miles if I remember right.
The views are fantastic and I think at the highest point its about 5000 feet or maybe a little more.
Definitely worth an afternoon walk.

Lago Santo is a natural lake surrounded by mountains. It is quite heavily ‘exploited’ with a number of bars and restaurants all of which are well-frequented. As a consequence it is not the most peaceful mountain lake experience. For that, go to the nearby Lago Baccio.

What a beautiful place! Silence, great nature, the beginning of Autumn, the nice walk around, we are happy we visited the place.

Beautiful tops and ridges for both long distance walkers and mountaineers. The location would benefit from better overnight accommodation.

First of all, a precision about distance. The 1999 edition of the Rough Guide implies that this lake a a gentle stroll from Pievepelago - but in fact it is 12km. We had a car, so no problem, but don't expect to walk there and back in an afternoon.
However if you have a car (or time and strong legs) it is well worth it - a pretty little lake up in the mountains. A path all the way round invites strolling and paddling, and a number of long-distance trails take off from here. There are also several places to eat on the lakeside and closebye.

Very nice place, for all seasons! In winter you can do skitouring and ice-climbing, in summer just walk around the lake or do climbing in the nearest area of Lago Baccio. I suggest you to have lunch at Rifugio Vittoria.

....but also for skitouring, or just a walk with children around the lake. Monte Giovo is really a nice place to climb, not difficult in all seasons.
