    Disappointing
Following a recommendation we visited the Farm Shop to have coffee/something to eat and see what it had to offer in respect of clothes for my wife. I am sorry to say that the visit was no more than average. The toilets were not clean and in fact my wife had to go into three cubicles before finding a toilet roll. We had drinks in the Pantry (which were fine) but the breakfast sandwiches were very average and to be honest expensive for what you got. Overall a disappointing visit.
Hi Peter, Many thanks for your feedback. Our toilets are checked, cleaned and replenished by the team on a regular basis so I'm very I'm disappointed to hear about the lack of toilets rolls when you visited. Sincere apologies.

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Big garden centre with the usual range of gifts and gardening items. Farm shop has an amazing variety of food but it is expensive. Check the price of items before purchase. Cafe very very good with excellent menu.
Hello and thank you for your feedback. We are proud to support other local farmers, growers and food & drink makers who supply us with their top quality local produce.

    Expensive
Felt like I was visiting harrods in the food hall. Very expensive. The cards were fairly priced and good assortment. Clothes expensive but couldn't resist a jumper as was nice. Not somewhere I would go regularly if in area as can get most things so much cheaper elsewhere
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We're often known locally as 'The Harrods of Herefordshire' and we're proud to support lots of local farmers, growers and food & drink producers. Thank you for your purchase in our clothing department. We appreciate your support.

I have shopped at Oakchurch Farm Shop for longer than I care to remember! My mum and I would normally spend several hours there, having lunch in Berries Restaurant, sometimes trying on clothes or looking at plants and doing a general food shop too. I’ve always found the staff to be extremely helpful and nothing is ever too much trouble.

Their food is second to none and I can see why local people refer to Oakchurch as the ‘Harrods of Herefordshire’.

I shop in Hereford supermarkets like Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Aldi but Oakchurch is definitely my favourite destination!

Since the lockdown, I’ve stopped taking my mum along and I now have to shop for both of us and really must ‘take my hat off’ to the way that Oakchurch is adhering to the Government guidelines to keep both their customers and staff safe, especially their strict policy on allowing only one person per household into the store to shop. I feel very safe when shopping at Oakchurch and a lot of people are saying the same on social media. However, I have witnessed a number of couples and family groups being very rude and abusive to Oakchurch staff and then venting their opinions on social media because they didn’t get their own way when they visited.

Over the last 7 weeks of lockdown I have learned, if nothing else, that patience and understanding is absolutely essential during these difficult times. Keep up the amazing work Team Oakchurch, I’m with you all the way!

I have shopped at Oakchurch for several years and have never had a reason to complain about anything. I was a little hesitant to visit during lockdown as our household were rigidly adhering to the lockdown guidance. I was however encouraged by the measures put in place to ensure social distancing and compliance with government guidance about shopping during this difficult time. During my visit I felt safe in the environment that had obviously been altered to assist social distancing. All the staff were courteous and friendly despite having to deal with customers who really had no grasp on the restrictive measures in place and why they were in place.
In short well done to all the staff in providing a safe environment to shop without losing the quality of produce and their sense of humour. Thank you and I will be back.

I love visiting Oakchurch but I dont like being ripped off. Our cafe meal was great if expensive - the price of the quiche and salad has gone through the roof. But as for the steak pasty. Come on Oakchurch - you charge a reasonably high price - my pasty had 95% potato and the small amount of meat was pure gristle. I certainly wont be buying another. It was truly tasteless and inedible.
By the way, the garden centre is excellent. Healthy plants and lots of stock

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your 4 star feedback. The Pantry Restaurant is run independently of Oakchurch and we'll pass on your feedback to the owners. I know that they will be as disappointed as we are. So that we can dig deeper please could you say if your steak pasty was purchased in our restaurant or shop? Do feel free to email me directly if it makes like easier - nick@oakchurch.net Kind regards, Nick Price

I felt very upset after my visit to oakchurch, I was queuing to go into the shop due to covid and was having a chat with the person in front of me at 2 meters distance when a staff member approaches us and asks if we are from the same household. I was surprised by this but we said no. But apparently that was not enough and the staff member proceeded to ask me aggressively if I was SURE we were not from the same household, implying I was lying. I had never met this person before! I was very upset and shaken by this encounter and I felt like leaving the queue but because I had been waiting for 20 mins and was almost at the front I stayed. What also upsets me about this is that there was clearly husband and wife couples in the queue that were pretending not to know each other that were not picked up on? Why was I singled out?
Proceeded into the shop and I was underwhelmed, I am happy to pay a little extra for premium food but for me the food I brought was very basic, nothing special but 5 times the price.
So unless you want to waste petrol, be rudely spoken too and pay over the odds for basic food than I recommend you don't bother coming here. I suggest going to Lidl instead, better food, lovely staff and a quarter of the price.

I wouldn't bother to try and shop here while coronavirus is still in effect. My wife and I queued for half an hour (on a Wednesday morning!) to get to the entrance where there is a small written sign saying 'in line with government guidelines only one member per household is allowed in store' - store policy - fair enough but at the time of writing NOT a government guideline. When I suggested to the woman manning the entrance that perhaps they should have a sign at the back of the queue she was extremely rude and confrontational and proceeded to tell us that "it's all over the news, we should know already" and that we shouldn't be out together except for exercise. I mentioned that we were in fact going for a walk nearby afterwards and this expert on government policy started a second rant about how we shouldn't be driving to exercise – again, not government policy as a cursory glance at the.gov website will show. I was also scolded by this same member of staff for "walking too close" to another customer in store and while I was queuing to pay she proceeded to accuse two elderly customers in front of me of "knowing each other" and that if she saw them in here at the same time again she'd have to ask them to leave. Shame, as I've been coming here since they first opened and the produce they sell is generally very nice and from good local suppliers but it's currently being spoiled by a very rude staff member on a misinformed power trip

Called in mid-Sunday afternoon. As we were being shown to a table, staff behind the counter were loudly shouting to our waitress not to take any more orders for Sunday lunch, despite there being hot food on view and over an hour before closing.

Signs up saying staff will continue to wear masks but not one member of staff wore one.

The restaurant was not busy but a lot of tables had dirty crockery left on them and tables generally didn’t feel particularly clean.

Sandwich selection on menu listed ‘vegan option available. When we enquired what this was, the waitress said “Do we do one?” She was shown the menu, she shrugged, laughed and said “salad?”

The only other dairy free / meat free option was a flapjack which was bizarrely the most tasteless flapjack we’ve ever had. My husband had a very average tasting sandwich for a very inflated price. The drinks we ordered with our meal finally arrived 15 minutes after his sandwich. When we’d enquired where the drinks were, we got another shrug and told they were on their way. Eventually.

The whole experience was frustrating, and not remotely relaxing as the shrugging waitress slammed crockery about as she cleared nearby tables in a rush, loudly chivvying on another member of staff, in what appeared to be an attempt to get done early so she could leave.

Staff should know what is on the menu and be able to cater for customers with a variety of dietary requirements. They should wear masks. They should serve drinks with the food and respond to enquiries politely. They should be mindful of customers in the vicinity by not shouting or slamming about.

Finally, the toilets were awful. For an establishment promoting (arguably) quality produce and a pleasant shopping experience, the standard of hygiene in the toilets was extremely poor.

I understand from other reviews that the restaurant is run independently. The standard of restaurant is massively letting down the whole Farm Shop. As is the grotty toilet shed at the entrance.

Hugely disappointing. Won’t be back.

Decided to come here after seeing it was open in the local paper, and thought it would be nice for a change.what a dissapointment! Covid rules for this farm shop are - one person from one car.I didn't mind queuing, but good lord is it really necessary to have bouncers at the entrance? Very confrontational and rude ones to boot. I was cringing as 2 seperate people in front of me were accused of being a couple, just because they were chatting. They said not,but were then asked if they were sure,I was embarrassed on their behalf, how dare they accuse them of lying. They weren't the only ones picked on either. Once inside I felt as if all customers were being watched like hawks,it made me feel very intimidated and uncomfortable. The atmosphere was very tense. The produce inside was average, nothing special.im not sure who they think they are,but fortnam and mason they are not,so why act as if they are some fancy emporium. It's a farm shop selling overpriced food. I bought a crumble for just under £5,ive had much better for half the price. The emperors new clothes comes to mind. I'm going to stick to my local supermarket from now on, I definitely won't be returning!

Extraordinary. Never in my life have I witnessed such appalling behaviour by shop assistants, one in particular who having reached the important status of 'Assistant Manager', felt the need to bark orders at me as to where precisely I should stand to the exact foot. As I was the only customer in the queue to pay and not another soul anywhere near I stood my ground on one of the many EMPTY clearly marked '2m' floor signs.

This woman continued yelling at me from across the floor until at the request of the cashier I walked forward in order to pay.

At this point the woman marched over stood directly next to me and from her cocoon of health and safety apparatus resembling a cross between a welder and an extra from 'Contagion', demanded loudly that I should leave. The hypocrisy she showed was mind boggling.

My protestations fell on deaf ears and alas I left without the high hopes I had previously felt for a simple pork pie and crisps.

I understand how difficult it must be for low skilled individuals without people skills to manage what is clearly a difficult compromise between health and safety and customer service but honestly, I really do think we can all do without the excessive histrionics, particularly when the customer facing retail sector has never been so precariously positioned to fall flat on it's face.

I have written twice to the Manager/Owner Mr Nick Price but have not received so much as a courtesy by reply. It would seem poor managerial techniques are embedded throughout.

Frankly, I would recommend avoiding Oakchurch Farm Shop.

Many thanks for getting in touch. You are correct in saying that a member of staff asked you to step back so they could come through. However, when you were asked to step back you used aggressive, threatening and obscene language towards that member of staff. You also gave our member of staff a long rant about covid-19 being a conspiracy. As your language got more threatening and abusive towards our staff you were asked to leave, much to the relief of the other customers and staff present at the time. The present situation is truly horrible. So many lives have been affected by covid-19, not just the people who have been unfortunate to catch it but all the people who have missed out on operations and the stress it has caused. Can I ask that you do not take it out on our other people.

Being such a hot day, 30 degrees , my partner and I just wanted a lovely ice cream from Oakchurch. We drove out especially. It has quite the reputation for serving the most delicious ice cream. We expected it to be busy but we didn’t expect it to be so chaotic. When we arrived to stand in the queue we were told the card machine was broken so we needed to go inside to pay at the tills for two scoops or one scoop. I asked if they would take cash and was told yes, but it had to be the exact amount. We did have cash but would need change. Dutifully went inside, purchased a few other things from the farm shop and then paid £9.90 for two ‘2 scoop’ ice cream. The queue now was very long and getting longer and not moving very quickly as only one person was serving the ice cream. 10 minutes in beating sunshine. When it came to our turn we decide on a tub serving as the heat would melt the ice cream in a cone . The first scoop filled the tub. When I said we actually paid for two scoops,I thought she might get a bigger tub but no, she proceeded to put another huge lump of ice cream balanced on top of the already full tub,add a wafer and tiny wooden spoon to eat it . Disaster…. impossible to eat despite sitting in an air conditioned car. Ice cream melted all over my clothes and car .There is a point to this. Oakchurch could have provided a float and taken cash with change. They could have provide a tub that would hold two scoops of ice cream . I could have had the opportunity to purchase just one scoop when I saw the size of the tub. They could have had two assistants dishing out the ice cream. They could have had more assistants helping. We all knew it was going to be hot and people love ice cream in hot weather. Poor organisation and as ever, a line of dutiful customers just accepted the situation.

Fabulous place. And so well planned out with regards to helping protect customers (and also staff) during the current Coronavirus pandemic, with clear and well managed restrictions and spacing.

Friendly, helpful staff, and great, fresh, local produce.

Well done, and thank you Team Oakchurch.

Stay patient folks (fellow customers). To be able to stay open for us all, establishments need to do the best they can to adhere to Government guidelines, and to have processes and relevant restrictions in place to protect customers and employees alike.
