2nd visit this week, 1st visit on Tuesday we had a lovely lunch in the cafe, service and food where excellent. Staff in the shop very helpful, gave lovely advice without being pushy, very friendly, informative Margaret D informed us about the tours around the mill which we didn't know about, fully booked that day. We booked on line Thursday morning for Thursday 1300 very simple to book even for those computer simpletons like myself. Even though we weren't sure where to go the staff in the gift shop recognised us from our last visit and pointed us in the right direction. We had an amazing guide who explained everything, every process, knew all the staff my name, it was like a huge family, the interactions where so informative everyone was happy to explain what they where doing and the part they played in the production. I had no idea how many stages a garment had to go through. We would highly recommend

Booked a tour of the mill and not really sure what to expect as seemed very good value for money. Instructions very clear we arrived 10 minutes before as requested and were greeted by our guide Julie in the visitor centre/shop on arrival. Instructions very clear as to what was involved and the toilets and start time confirmed. Tour consisted of a walk through the working mill explaining the principle of ‘goat to coat’ and how this was achieved. Julie was a great host explaining all the processes and procedures all the various processing involved and taking questions at any time and explaining fully in her responses. A great hour or so in Hawick with the tour of the goods in the visitor shop being a great temptation Many thanks.

The tour was very interesting , and pleasantly surprising - hadn't realised so much went into making one garment!, The guide was very informative, friendly and knowledgeable. It is advisable that you wear flat shoes & are able to walk / stand for approx 1 hr.
Would definitely recommend. Nice to receive a free gift too! Thank you to Jen our guide.

I planned to tour this factory and had an appointment for January and had to cancel last minute due to a death In my family . I rescheduled my trip to Scotland for March and booked the tour again . While in Scotland all news broke out with Covid-19 situations . At first , they thought they would cancel tour on Morning of 3/13 . Last minute they decided to honor any existing reservations they had . Luckily for us they did . The lady that escorted us around through all the manufacturing processes and quality control and the manager and the workers that were working were all amazing . I want to thank them for such a through and pleasant tour that I will remember forever .. I totally understand the price of fine cashmere .. thank you for sharing ..Hope your all well and this world wide pandemic ends ASAP

We had never been to a mill so didn't know what to expect. However this visit turned out to be informative and interesting. An excellent guide answered all our questions in detail. It was good to see traditional practises alongside modern technology and to learn what to look out for when buying cashmere items. The shop is great if you like traditional products, what a pity that modern designs were not on offer such as those seen being made for Chanel.

I visited the shop with a rather tricky exchange request that was not part of Johnstons normal process. Lynn and Julie went out of their way to help me and found a solution, assisted by Carmen in the e-commerce team. I had been worried there would be an issue but these ladies, although a bit unsure of how to make things work at first, came up with a plan and I got my exchange processed. They even found a way to make sure I got exactly what I wanted even though it was not available in the shop.

The local b&b owner reminded us twice Not to miss the sales, and definitely he was right. Excellent discount on high quality cashmere and wool, and of course the less outdated merchandise in the shops are very proper and beautiful that you may want to spend a few more quids to buy.
The small souvenir shop and the large cafe are excellent place for a break too.

At the time of our visit the factory, which has a shop and cafe, was doing free factory tours every hour on the half hour with the last tour being 1.30. It was a young girl who took us on the tour and she was very knowledgable. We were the only couple on the tour and found the interaction with the workers as well as the guide very informative. I realise that the canny Scots do this so you appreciate why cashmere garments are so expensive but despite knowing this we really do now appreciate why (good quality) cashmere is so expensive. The tour was free and we felt was well worth the time spent; we learnt a few things plus we could have a cuppa in the cafe afterwards.
