Although this museum is small, it does a good job in presenting the various historical objects in an efficient and accurate manner. The museum is free and is located next to the Museum of Natural History. It has a nice interior courtyard with additional items. A wonderful little public park is located on the grounds of the museum. We sat on a nice bench in the shade while other younger people chose to bask in the bright sunshine on a hot day (80 F). We recommend this museum as it succeeds in what it attempts in the presentation of its historical objects.

I went to this museum to see the coins of William Longsword. I never realised what a fantastic museum it was until I entered. It has an extraordinary collection of artifacts to human history, even earlier than the Roman occupation of France.
The Roman mosaic was stunningly beautiful & in wonderful condition, Egyptian mummies, Greek art & pottery are just some of the items on display.
It’s collection of Merovingian & Carolingian treasures are fantastic. It also has some terrific medieval relics & coinage, Roman sculptures & great little gift shop.
The best part is it’s free to enter & I couldn’t believe I was the only person visiting this fantastic museum. If you want to see some amazing artifacts without the crowds or line ups while in Rouen, then this is a must-see place to visit. Is my favourite museum in France.
It was a truly amazing place to visit & buy some well priced souvenirs.

The museum is rather small, although larger and much better, than I expected from the description in my guidebook. There is a room with Egyptian artefacts, including a sarcophagus. There are 2 Roman mosaics (one partially added in later) as well as other Roman finds. The largest section is on early Christian and Medieval finds, some of which are quite unique. Entrance is free, so very well worth a visit.

This is a small museum, nut with an excellent collection. The Roman mosaic is astounding, and it has a very good Egyptian, Greek and Medieval collection. The late Middle Age / early Renaissance works are unique.

This free to enter museum is laid out on several floors and contains quite a few stuffed animals and birds. There are also areas of fossils and minerals. Up the staircases are frames containing plants, seeds, spices and other oddments.

Since it is a free of charge museum, it could be a nice visit. A very eclectic collection. Everything from Egyptian mummies to Greek and Roman artifacts to Middle Ages and later objects. Not much of a theme there, but a couple of interesting objects. The garden in the center was unfortunately neglected.

Nice collection of artefacts, some quite breathtaking. It’s quite compact and well set out in an historic building with some pedigree. This is among a number of quality free entry museums in Rouen. Nice walk through time as you pass wonderful ancient structures on the way there. Worth the time.

Up rue Beauvoisine, a ways from the historical center (but not far from a stop of the number 20 bus), are two buildings accessible through a gate that house some very fascinating collections. The first you pass from the street is the Natural History Museum; the second is the Museum of Antiquities. It was the latter museum that we visited first during our time in Rouen.

And we loved it. The sections on Roman, Greek and Egyptian artifacts were small, but each had interesting pieces, especially the large Roman mosaic floor panel. It was the Medieval and Renaissance sections that really thrilled me, though. I will never forget, for example, the 12th century capital covered with musicians - a musicologist should make a study of that capital to learn more about the instruments that were used at that time. And the many pieces of stained glass displayed there also thrilled me.

This museum should be higher on the list of top attractions in Roeun. If you like museums, this little place will not disappoint you. This is a small one level museum located within walking distance of the Notre Dame Cathedral. It is a decent walk of a dozen blocks.

I wanted to view their collection of Egyptian antiquities and I was not disappointed. The collection is small but impressive. They have a very nice sarcophagus, a number of shabiti, and a couple of wood carvings of Bastet. They also have a nice mosaic Roman floor, Greek pottery, and a number of medieval items too. They have a nice case of medieval religious items, and some furniture. A visit takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. I would visit this museum again, it is worth the visit.
