Pituisas Boats asked me today to write a review of our boat rental from August 2018 so here is my honest opinion of my experience. Hopefully this is useful for future customers. I'd have to say in many years of renting boats around europe and in Ibiza, this was my worst experience and all in all, was very poor value. Below is a copy of a letter to Nautal, the boat rental portal I rented this boat though. For information, I received no response from either Nautal or Pituisas after sending this, so maybe I get some response to my feedback now.

"Hi,

I am back from my holiday to Ibiza now, and have been requested by Nautal to send in some feedback about the boat rental. Before I add my own feedback to the site, I would like to let you know in detail my feelings and inform you that I was not very satisfied with the boat we had last week, and my overall experience was not a happy one. I apologise that this is a long mail and seems like a long complaint, but I am still quite upset by the whole thing, as it is perhaps the worst boat rental experience I have had.

1. The boat:

Although not in terrible shape, the boat was not as described on the site. It was certainly not an 8 metre 2005 boat, with a refit in 2017, I expect it was originally a 7 meter Wellcraft Eclipse 232 from the 1990s and some extra (certainly not 1 metre) length added to the rear bathing deck at some point. It may have been refurbished in recent years but there were plenty of signs of wear and tear, items missing or not working, and damage to the interior and exterior paintwork, and other fixtures and fittings. Things like the flagpole had been snapped off leaving an unrepaired hole in the transom, the fresh water shower was inoperable, the ipod cable did not work with the stereo, speakers didn't work and so on. These, being minor, certainly made an impact on the quality and comfort of the day. The engine seemed to be of similar vintage as the boat, and given the starting problems I experienced later, was not in perfect condition. The inside cabin was a total mess with scuba equipment and broken snorkel and masks and general equipment scattered about. There was one working mask provided.

2. Safety:

I had requested at four buoyancy vests for the children to wear when underway. This was eventually confirmed in messages beforehand. Jose dug out 4 adult life jackets hidden under the floor of the cabin which were not really suitable for kids and very large. We felt we had no choice though and used them. No kill cord was
available/visible. The bow safety bar was unattached at 2 points at the front where it had sheared off from the boat. The fuel gauge did not work and read as empty for the whole trip.
These I discovered after we had left the mooring point so against my better judgement, I decided as skipper to continue our trip and not return to the mooring and end our trip early.

3. Communication with owners:

I did not enjoy having to take the initiative and chase contact with the owners once my booking was made through your site (Nautal). I sent messages through Nautal, sent emails, called their phone numbers supplied without a response. I finally used WhatsApp and raised a response. However I kept having to ask questions in my limited Spanish as best I could, their responses were short and uninformative, or they ignored my questions, or were not clear. They made no attempt to communicate in English, which of course I have no right to expect, but would have helped me if they had tried. It felt as if they had no interest in helping me or my guests and family enjoy the day, and given the quality of the boat and overall experience, I suspect this is the case.

4. Rental experience:

We had arranged to meet at 10.30 am on the date of the hire. We were directed to a rough area near some fishing huts and slipways, which did not seem like a good or comfortable place to meet or embark, with no safe jetty or beach area to pick us up from. Jose, the man sent to help us did not appear until around 11.45am. I had tried to contact the company by phone and message to find out what was happening with no response. We then did not get underway until well after 12.00pm. I was given no reason for being late. A bad start, as my guests and family were not happy due to the delay and waiting around on a dusty road for 1.5 hours, plus I knew the better weather that day was in the morning, which meant the afternoon wind and cloud would affect our trip more.

I had a pretty sketchy boat briefing as Jose's English was poor and my Spanish is not good.

However, all was not bad. The boat had been cleaned outside (although it was tatty and messy inside cabin). For the first few hours of the rental, we spent some good time travelling to Formantera and then anchored up closer to Ibiza island, some of the boat equipment (depth sounder, anchor winch) worked well. We then had a problem starting the engine, fortunately after many attempts we started it. This however put the mood of the party very low and we all wished to return to the mooring point without stopping again to avoid further issues starting the boat. So we were out for 5.5 hours, when we expected to be out for another two.

I could not explain this or my issues at handover to Jose as he could not understand my Spanish and his English was not good.

I hope you understand my feelings about hiring this boat. It is not one I ever want to experience again, and I feel I did not get good value for the total price I paid for the rental, fuel and cleaning that I have on previous rentals. I would like you to ensure for that this boat information is correct on your website and safely equipped to prevent future customers being misled and possibly being put at risk. Please also pass on my dissatisfaction to the owners.

Regards..."

Lamentamos mucho su enfado pero no sabemos quién es, para nosotros el trato a las personas y el estado de los barcos es nuestra prioridad, no entendemos este mensaje.
