The area
Address
Neighborhood: Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.

    A Spanish Cooking Class
Eduardo, the owner/operator of Cooking Point did a wonderful job introducing us to Spanish cuisine. We had the opportunity of participating in the preparation of a complete meal, from making Sangria to a dessert, Crema Catalana (Catalan Crème). The process was not only interesting, but entertaining as well. If in Madrid, I would highly recommend making an effort to take advantage of a Spanish cooking class with Eduardo at Cooking Point.

A great class to do while in Madrid
The paella cooking class was such a great experience. After meeting my fellow participants and the very engaging, fun and informative Teresa, we walked to the nearby food markets to buy our food - fresh. While the food was being gathered, cut and bagged, Teresa talked with us about the different food regions, history of foods and spices and so much more. On return to the kitchen, we spent the full time preparing our dishes. The tastes were amazing and the recipe was given to recreate everything at home. I absolutely recommend this class.

Excellent cooking experience. Great instruction Clean and relaxed kitchen setting And our end result, paella, was delicious. I picked this class because it is offered earlier in the day than most of the others. We already had plans for the evening and most other offerings started too late to fit into our day. It was great.

This was without a doubt the highlight of my trip to Madrid. From start to finish a wonderful experience full of laughs! I actually couldn't believe the quality of the food we produced; Teresa is an excellent teacher! I would certainly recommend this experience; infact I'd love to go again myself!

I booked 2 classes.. Tapas on Tuesday and Paella Friday. Eduardo is an amazing chef and teacher. Recipes were easy to follow and he always made sure we also understand the context around Spanish food. I love cooking and eating and these experiences were two of my best culinary experiences of my life. Fun, safe, pragmatic.. I went alone as my wife could not travel with me but either alone or with your partner, this is a perfect way to feel and taste Spain like never before.. Gracias Edu!!!

We had such an enjoyable experience learning to cook paella with Cooking Point! We got to sip sangria while we got hands on instruction in a relaxed setting. I do really feel like I could go home and make this - it was soooo tasty and so fun to do! I would highly recommend this course!

We wanted to try a cooking class in Spain, and after taking this class, could not recommend it more highly. Our experience was so good that I actually wanted to create a TripAdvisor account solely to review the class (unprompted).

We chose the tapas course, and made chorizo in cider, mussels in vinaigrette, tortilla espanola, patatas bravas, shrimp with garlic, and sangria. There were many "extras" offered free that made for a very pleasant surprise, including digestifs, dessert, and jamon. We were stuffed by the end of the class.

Instructions were very clear (in English), and both the owner and instructor shared the history behind individual dishes and warmly welcomed questions. Booking the course via email was a seamless experience, although we also saw visitors stopping by the school to book as well. You are given a set of recipes to take with you at the end -- I have already tried some out! Would definitely try the paella class if I were in Madrid again.

What a fun day! What a wonderful chef and teacher Teresa is. I absolutely loved going to the Mercado with her and watch her buy all the supplies for the day. She has a fantastic personality and included everyone. We left with all sorts of great cooking knowledge and stomachs filled with delicious paella!

The morning paella, sangria and gazpacho class was pretty amazing. Eduardo took us to the local market and educated our group of 12 on the various items purchased. The best part was watching the gentleman at the fish store clean the squid. Back in the classroom, we were treated to some sangria that had already been prepared as well as a taste of vermouth. Eduardo shared how "vermouth time" which is a specific time but most importantly it is a cultural thing and a way of getting together with friends. What a great tradition!

We made sangria (even though there was plenty there to drink already) as well as gazpacho and paella. Everything was delicious. I even remarked to another student that the paella we made was better than the paella I had in a Valencia restaurant (which is where paella originated).

This was a fun tour as I attended alone (my husband spent the day in meetings) and I was paired up with another student, which was great as she was an excellent cooking partner!

The only thing I wish I had known is that the amount of food is very substantial and had I known I would not have eaten breakfast but showed up with a big appetite.

Eduardo gave us a pamphlet with all the recipes and I've already made the paella twice since returning home. Of course it was delicious and my husband keeps asking me to make it. Definitely recommend this cooking school as everything was well organized, clean and fun!

My husband was "doubtful" at first but by the end we both agreed it was a four hours well spent. Christina was our guide cook-instructor. Our full class of couples and a family was instructed on the finer points of Spanish cuisine, starting with making our own sangria (stuck it in the fridge to marinate) while constructing gazpacho, potatoes brava, chorizo la sista (cider) and several other small plates. Pace was just right and easy to follow although you still have to think a little (always a good thing). A hard-earned meal that we ate together afterwards while communing with travelers from all over the world, que rico! Christina is awesome and we both highly recommend the experience. Will be serving our own guests back in the Midwest some tasty Spanish tapas.

I took the paella class with Eduardo. I was by myself and was not paired with anybody else as there was an odd number of people in the group, but the group was very nice and we all interacted as we cooked. We visited the market, bought the ingredients and then cooked gazpacho, sangria and paella. Eduardo is fantastic, he provides a lot of information about the ingredients, the preparation and the link of the food to the Spanish culture. Extremely recommended if you want to do something different and fun while in Madrid.
