I cannot say enough about the wonderful food tour Anna took us on March 21. She is so knowledgeable not only about the food but all things Abruzzzo. I ate and learned so much and all the food was delicious (and there was a lot) and the restaurant owners were so welcoming. You can see she has a special relationship with them through years of working together. In Apri she is taking a few of us truffle hunting and a truffle meal afterwards, I can’t wait. If you come to Abruzzzo I highly recommend you take one of her tours!! Edna Snow

We had a fantastic time with Anna who showed us some hidden gems in Pescara. We tasted some wonderful food and wine and learnt some of the history of the town as well. Anna has a real passion for the food and wine of the region and ensuring that it has a proper provenance. If you think that Pescara has nothing more than an airport, think again and try this tour - you will be pleasantly surprised with some of the treasures it has to offer. Thank you Anna.

From the very beginning of our food tour Anna was engaging and full of snippets of information about Pescara and it's history. The tour took us to parts of Pescara I have visited many times before but we were seeing it with new eyes under the expert guidance of Anna. The variety of products we sampled and the balance was absolutely perfect. The only pity was that it was a very hot day which made it hard to buy some of the lovely fresh products that we tried.

Anna has obviously worked very hard to establish a network of authentic places to visit and to be able to tell us the history of those places and I would thoroughly recommend taking a food tour with her.

Thank you Anna for a memorable day.

I recently spent a most delicious and informative morning "Eating my way round Pescara" with Anna Lebedeva of Abruzzo with Gusto. Anna was a delightful and knowledgeable host to our small group, introducing us to places which we would never have found by ourselves. I particularly appreciated the historical details about Pescara which she shared with us - oh, and the food and wine of course! And the large bag of the Pope's salt which I was able to buy for my husband (the chef in our house!) was also extremely well received.
Thank you so much Anna, I think your tours are an excellent and enjoyable way of learning about the food and culture of a fascinating but little known part of Italy. I shall certainly be recommending you to friends, visitors, guests, et al!

Anna opened doors to Pescara we wouldn’t have known existed. The food and wine tour was the perfect way to explore Pescara and get a feel for the beautiful Abruzzo region. With each taste or drink came fascinating insights into a really awesome part of Italy. Highly recommend you do this on day 1 as Anna set us up with recommendations for the rest of our time (and they were all excellent!) thanks Anna, we’ll be back with friends!!

Thanks to Anna and her Abruzzo with Gusto enterprise, our first visit to Abruzzo was deliciously memorable. We were guided through all the delicious food and drink the region has to offer, both when we were with her on the Pescara food tour and afterwards via Anna’s recommendations and suggestions.

We did both the Pescara food tour and the Cooking with Friends.

On the food tour, despite only covering a few city blocks in Pescara, we were introduced to some real gems that enabled us to sample a number of the food items that were on our “wish list” for the trip. We were surprised that there were only the two of us on the tour – I half expected a group of 20 tourists slavishly following a guide with an umbrella – and we appreciated the personal attention that we were given, as well as all the historical and anecdotal information provided.

All the food we ate was included in the price of the tour and we didn’t have to pay anything extra for all the wonderful food we encountered on the tour.

In our morning’s walk, we visited a cremeria and a wonderful deli where the proprietor demonstrated making pasta alla chitarra and gave us endless samples of a range of treats I would never have thought of buying. We then stopped at a deli for a plate of salami and cheese and a glass of wine. We learned a lot from our sit-down session, including information about olive oil and cheese production, as well as what to look for in pasta. At the market, the porchetta that we tasted is the best we’ve ever had, anywhere. I wish we’d had a whole sandwich and taken some home with us! We also tasted the regional turkey dish and some unforgettable pecorino. The chocolate shop was a nice air-conditioned stop. We especially liked the cherry chocolates.

The hemp and turnip green pizza was probably the most memorable and conversation-starting pizzetta we had our our trip.

I would recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting the area, foodies or not, as it is a great way to get to know about the region.

Our Cooking with Friends experience was on an organic farm near Corvara. It was not what we expected, but it was well worth the price considering the wealth of information we were given, the friendly company of our hosts, and the delicious resultant meal at the end of our morning.

The day was not nearly enough hands-on cooking for my liking. It was more like “Watching Friends Cook” than actually cooking ourselves. Nevertheless, we enjoyed things very much and were given the opportunity to make pasta alla chitarra and crostata from scratch.

The resultant meal was amazing and so plentiful that we got to take quite a bit of it home with us.

It was wonderful being shown the peaceful garden by its proud owner and working alongside the couple in their kitchen. Throughout the morning, we heard countless anecdotes and learned many things that will shape our view of Italian life and cooking. We were able to sample local white wine, homemade salamis, prosciutto (from Arturo, the unfortunate pig), honey, chocolate spread, chilli sauce, pecorino, green beans from the garden, and cherry and liquorice liqueurs, along with our wonderful pasta dish and crostata. When making the dessert, we were allowed to prepare a second one which we took “home” and ate every night as dessert for the remainder of our trip.

It was a truly memorable experience which we would repeat, either here or at one of the other locations in Abruzzo.

Anna continued to provide helpful suggestions and advice via email long after our paid-for days were over. She gave us recommendations for restaurants, beaches, things to buy, and places to go. Exceptional service in so many ways.

We had a great time and great food with our tourguide Anna and our fellow tour mates. She was very inclusive and showed us some really nice places. I have an allergy against certain foods and although I didn’t expect to get alternatives all the time (I mean it’s a food tour, I know what I am up to), Anna made sure at every stop that I got a sometimes even more awesome substitute for what I couldn’t eat. Thank you, Anna - very much appreciated!

Anna has a very natural, friendly way of passing on her knowledge and her enthusiasm for the food of Abruzzo. During the tour we went to different family run shops and we were able to taste the produce. She chooses where to go and does not have any agreement with the stores and so her suggestions are impartial. We sampled a range of foods both sweet and savoury. Anna explained about the production process of the cheeses and cold meats we sampled. By taking us into the more up market delicatessen type shops, the local covered market, wine shop, pizzeria and gelateria Anna provided a range of experiences and increased our knowledge. All the food was of the highest quality. We thought Italian ice cream was good, but the small shop Anna took us to took gelato to another level!! The Pescara food tour with Anna should not be missed. We look forward to joining her on a tour of small family run wineries.

Our experience with Abruzzo with Gusto was exceptional.
Anna was our guide on the winery tour, and has a vast amount of knowledge and information about the local wines and food in this region. Information she is more than willing to share with you. Anna made everything effortless, so we could just relax and enjoy everything on offer.

A truly enjoyable tour, I can't recommend this enough for anyone looking to have a taste of authentic Italy. Thank you Anna!
