I went here during the holidays and it was one of the few places not too crowded. I love the Caravaggio painting and I was happy to see it in person. It is also possible to seat to admire it for as long as you want. There are also some amazing sculptures in red coral to see. I suggest to read the story and the meaning of the Caravaggio painting in advance since the little signs do not explain the complexity of the painting.

The chapel is stunning not to mention the wonderful Caravaggio painting. I love the mix of modern art the corals alongside the traditional.
Make sure you so up to the museum, not easily signposted, one of the small alcoves has the door open and you exit to the left outside and up some stairs to the adjacent buildings. Museum has a mix of traditional Christian artefacts and paintings alongside modern art.
Well worth entrance fee.

During our recent visit to Naples we visited many artistic and heritage sites, but Pio Monte takes the prize. The church is part of a larger complex housing the offices of an extremely exclusive confraternity dedicated to the performance of the seven acts of mercy, which is the theme of the complex (Misericordia). The centrepiece of the church is unarguable the altar painting of the seven acts of mercy, by the great Caravaggio. It is just simply beautiful. After visiting the church allow time to go upstairs to the offices of the confraternity, in reality a museum cum gallery, with their multitude of paintings and, the highlight, a private balcony overlooking the church below where the members of the confraternity followed mass, staring at the altar and, no doubt, being distracted by the sheer beauty of Caravaggio's masterpiece.

This is a “must do” for lovers of the art of Caravvagio. Even though Naples is very busy, our 1 pm booking saw us given entry ten minutes early and there were only a handful of others at the same time. The masterpiece is breathtaking, large and there is an interactive screen that explains the seven acts of mercy. In the church there are other wonderful artworks and then, included in the very reasonable price you also gain entry into their art gallery. A really worthwhile activity.

I always wanted to visit the church to see the famous painting by Caravaggio
and does not disappoint. I never had time a few years ago as so much to see in Naples.
The painting is bigger than I thought and just amazing.
I went upstairs to the museum and also the painting by Cesare Francanzano named Resurrezione Lazzaro to look out for as the woman on the left in the painting is crying and her tears look so life like it’s as though they will drop from the painting.
The cost for entry to the church is €8 and you buy a ticket at the office across from the church.

The Seven Works of Mercy (Caravaggio) has always been one of my favorite works of art. When visiting Naples I knew we had to visit Pio Monte della Misericordia.

We pre-booked our tickets online and we enjoyed an almost empty visit at the chapel. Upon entering The Seven Works of Mercy overpowers your senses. While the other paintings and sculptures are beautiful. The intensity Caravaggio brings to this one piece keeps your attention.

Your ticket also includes entry into the photo gallery. Overall, the €8 seems cheap for such a wonderful experience.

The chapel at the entrance has wonderful architecture and the famous Caravaggio painting at the altar. Upstairs, there is a series of rooms where, I think, the confraternity who owned this edifice must have met, as there is a meeting room and miscellaneous artefacts together with a collection of old paintings and some modern art. Unfortunately, it seemed to me that most of the pictures stand in need of conservation cleaning: some were so dark with age that I could hardly make out the subject matter. In the main salon upstairs was a series of boards depicting the "Quattro Giornate di Napoli" in comic book form, which was interesting and I think more could have been done with it; context, etc.

The main chapel is worth it. The Seven Acts of Mercy truly stands out. It was so quick and there were very few others, so we could enjoy it slowly in Air Con. Nice respite from the heat.

We didn't really enjoy the second floor, although my daughter did like to walk by it to see the modern part of the exhibit.

Apparently this is a private church and it's closed on Wednesdays. Who knew? Guess what day we chose to travel from Rome to see Naples Caravaggios. Yup, on a mercoledi. Check website (or Google) BEFORE assuming it will be open. Oh yeah, the Capodimonte Museum is ALSO closed on Wednesdays!!

I would recommend this for anyone interested in history of art, the chapel is unusual and of course, the Seven Acts of Mercy by Caravaggio is splendid. However, be sure to go upstairs to the trustee's meeting room and view it from the little balcony there as you get the right perspective and better lighting. Some other very interesting paintings, too, so allow enough time: at least an hour.
