About
Check out a different side of Naples—think: an extensive labyrinth of tunnels that snake underneath the entire old town. Underground Naples offers a fascinating combination of caves, galleries, and passages 131 feet below the ground. Follow the official Napoli Sottrerranea route, which will bring you to the Roman Theater and the Greek-Roman aqueduct, or join a separate tour to visit the Galleria Borbonica which used to be a tunnel intended for the then King of Naples to flee if intended. It's highly recommended to pre-book skip-the-line tickets online to avoid long lines at the entrance. – Tripadvisor

Great couple of hours for older kids
Fantastic tour. We did this 5 years ago so had an idea what to expect but our kids were wowed by what they saw and heard. Our guide was personable and funny, and spoke good English. Love that you move to 2 additional sites and get to see so much.

All the explanations were so clear and our guide DeboraH was so kind and avaliable to answer our demands. The place is humid but is safe, needs attention. Than, she also taked us to know a theatre from the first and second century

Unique way to see a city!
The tour takes you 40 metres below Naples into the old aqueducts and impromptu Second World War bunkers, with a really informative (if not occasionally forgetful) guide. Highlights include seeing the old water channels and the showers/toilets used in WW2 - as well as a very tight walk through some of the original walkways from thousands of years ago - it’s a very tight squeeze but don’t worry if you are claustrophobic, as you can miss that section and it’s only 15 minutes of a full 2 hour tour. After the underground section, the guide walks you across town to the ruins of the old amphitheatre telling stories of the emperors that once performed there. Really great tour and really unique way to see Napoli, but it only gets 4 stars because it’s got barely any information outside about tour times, tour languages or even tour length. We turned up and winged it but you are able to pre-book which would probably remove my only complaint! At about €15 per person on the door for two hours and lots of sights it’s well worth it!

    Interesting
We enjoyed this tour, very good value for money Our guide Luis ( I think !) was very knowledgeable calm and funny Really interesting and lovely and cool in the July heat ! The tour is good hard to hear at times when other party’s talking nearby The getting in is so chaotic and unorganised with very rude staff a few simple signs would have helped !! But would recommend seeing the underground Naples thank you

    Best underground experience ever!
We went for an English speaking tour and our tour guide Maja was INCREDIBLE! We enjoyed nearly 1:30 hrs underground and were simply amazed by the stories Maja told us about the place. She did an amazing job guiding us through the tunnels and managed to grip the audience whenever she spoke. We‘d definitely come here again.

    Fascinating tour through the aqueducts
Fascinating history of the underground aqueducts and their use during WWII. Alex, our guide made the tour -he was so funny, knowledgeable and all around excellent. Narrow passageways were both fun and spooky to walk through and if you have claustrophobia you can sit out in a cave for those parts.

    Loved the claustrophobic part!
Carve out the hour to cool down underground and do this tour. It was nice to break up the day out of heat/sun underground. There is a part of the tour that is very claustrophobic if that bothers you! It was my favorite part lol Crazy to think people stayed down here and lived like that for time on end! My only complaint is there are alot of photos online that make this place look "cooler" than it actually was. I think they try to upsell the marketing so I was a little disappointed but overall it was interesting hear about the underground world!

A little pricey, but a very memorable and interesting tour.
Wonderful walking tour of the Sebtarranean Naples. We found the tour really informative, engaging and fun! Don't want to give away spoilers, but would highly recommend, unless you're claustrophobic (though some bits can be skipped)! We felt it was a little bit pricey, compared to the value of other Naples attractions, but that aside would thoroughly recommend.

Cool tour, well worth the effort.
This was an enjoyable tour. Our guide spoke good English, although sometimes it was hard to hear him. We explored the ancient Greek quarries under the city, and then saw parts of the Roman amphitheater. This amphitheater is now inside of an ordinary looking apartment building - - astonishing. It is 40 m underground, about 140 steps. Our guide was cognizant of the effort required for this. Also, at some point we were going through some very tight spaces, which some people opted out of. We opted for the pizza add-on, which was at a restaurant nearby, afterward. It was fine.

Great tour guide & fun experience
I wasn’t overly looking forward to this experience but it was brilliant! Our tour guide (I think he was called Mikhael, I know he was from Helsinki) was very funny and interesting and had so much energy. I am a little claustrophobic and found it ok, but you can skip most of the narrow tunnels except for one at the beginning that only takes 8 seconds to get through. I did find it a little scary taking the 100+ steps down (fear of heights trumps fear of enclosed spaces for me) but it was fine going back up so the scary bit is over at the beginning if you are scared of heights. Didn’t see any spiders either! My favourite part of the tour was at the end when we went to see the old theatre or what remains of it. This was a lovely surprise as initially I thought the tour was over by this point.

Hearing about Naples' history was fascinating and seeing the underground passages - there is also a little extra as you visit some hidden houses and learn about the structure of the city, and how the poorest of the population live. In the catacombs itself, it is a good tour, but if you are claustrophobic, or worry about the coronavirus in closed spaces, you won't get too see - and hear- about the key thing in the catacombs, which is about the aqueduct. It's a shame as no one tells you beforehand, so missing out on the actual thing you want to see and pay 10 Euros for it is a great shame.

Step back in deep time and allow yourself to ponder ancient history. Walking down the 5,000 year-old steps into the past brings you to a time 3,000 years before Pompeii was buried in ash by Mt Vesuvius. The hike through sometimes-narrow tunnels in candlelight was a thrilling education. The tunnels, caverns, water cisterns, walls and ceilings were so much more compelling to my eyes than the equally fascinating eye candy of Pompei and Ercolano - also not to be missed. The Tour guides were superb, knowledgeable, patiently ensuring all participants felt abd secure in a sometimes overwhelming environment! Kinduv amazing that this underground city was first used 5,000 years ago, all the way through WWII as a bomb shelter! ENJOY! WTL.USA 2/4/2020

Running beneath the Italian city of Naples and the surrounding area is an underground geothermal zone and several tunnels dug during the ages. Mostly aqueducts, but then used as bomb shelters during WWII, suffice it to say much was learned on this often-narrow 60 minute tour. Conducted by enthusiastic guides, fluent in English, do be sure not to wear shoes you value and claustrophobic guests should probably take a pass.

Visiting the underground was not in the original plans due to our schedule in Naples: in a week a tons of things to do and see! But see the underground, really worths the time spend and the cost of the tickets. Massimiliano the guide lead us in the secret story , explaining the ancient origins of Naples from the first Greek plant in Partenope to Neapolis. Massimiliano was able to make it a fun experience to my young girls aged 12 and 14 years old and to my wife. So perfect guide for a young family. They adore to walk trough the dark corridors and stairs handling a candle 😄. Go here and ask for Massimiliano. Good efficiency on ticket selling, better book them online. Even the covid restrictions make struggling any visits worldwide, the organization of the underground make it easy and affordable by anybody. Go to the Napoli Sotterranea!👊

Highly recommended experience as the environments are evocative and the guide was very knowledgeable but never boring. You will take a journey underground but also through history. It also supports the association that takes care of these places (even buying parts of houses built practically INSIDE the caves)!
Beware of imitations! Near the entrance to this one is the entrance to other experiences with a similar name, but very different (and which I do not recommend, compared to this one).

Our tour guide was extremely kind and knowledgeable, teaching us about the history of the underground and how it is used today by students of the university. The tour lasted a little over an hour, and included a walk through the very narrow tunnels, a secret Roman theater and lots of stairs.
Great value at 10€ / person.
I definitely recommend this tour for anyone interested in the history of Naples, or simply interested in doing something different!

The English tour was around 30 people which was too much, took a long time to move around. The tour guide was very short and provided no new info (read the same one in the description of the tour). I advise you to go earlier in the day while the tour guides have more energy and if you are claustrophobic it makes little sense to go for the tour since you have around 15-20min of just sitting while the rest of the group goes to the water tanks that might even be the best thing to see in the tunnels. In summer they say it's a good place since the tunnels are cool but now in December it was even colder then outside.

Booked our tickets ahead of time thinking it would make a difference in the wait time but it didn’t. A complete mess with with zero organisation. When we arrived there was already a queue for the 16h tour, I approached a staff to let them know that I have already booked my ticket in advance and he said to join the queue along with the rest of visitors who have no prior reservation. Confused, I approached another staff and she said to join another queue on the side. There were multiple queues and none of their staff seemed to be clear on what exactly was going on. The experience only went downhill from there….the guide (whom didn’t even introduce herself) started the tour with an attitude…she started by shushing everyone rudely like they were school kids. She had zero charisma and seemed like she didn’t want to be there. Even when she tried to make a joke, it seemed like she literally read if off a script she memorised…completely cold and monotonous. She tried to get the public to respond to a question she asked but when we didn’t get the answer right she just replied “No” with an attitude. She gave like 5 mins of commentary and sprinted to the next room, I could have honestly googled and have gotten more information. What a waste of 10 euros. The place has so much history and potential but due to the unprofessionalism of the staff, it completely ruined our experience there. Save your money, visit the catacombs instead or just Google the history/pictures.

There are two Naples underground attractions (both 10-11 Euro each and per person including Guide). One of which is Archaeological and other an old bunker experience. If you have been to Pompeii ruins then no need to visit Archaeological underground, its waste of money and even official guides don't know much about their Archaeological attraction, might not be able to answer many of your questions and even for very small ruins at attraction. Visiting Bunker is subjective and depending on your interest people visit it.
