About
The Chape land the Treasure of San Gennaro narrate the roots of Naples, its millenary civilization, its ancient popular culture and the devotion to its Patron Saint. The Treasure, in addition to the relics, houses a priceless heritage of holy objects in gold, silver, bronze and precious stones. Over the centuries, these riches have been donated to San Gennaro by the members of the Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro, by the Neapolitans and foreign kings who reigned or came to visit Naples, by popes and people. The Chapel and the Sacristies are also among the most important monuments of the Neapolitan Baroque!

San Gennaro is the saint patron of Naples and its chapel is richly decorated. For me the real treasures of S. Gennaro's chapel are the original paintings by Domenichino (Domenico Zampieri) with its vivacious colours. They represent various events from Saint Gennaro's life.

This is below in the crypt under Naples cathedral and it holds some absolutely stunning pieces of religious items with fantastic jewels. Definately worth going to see this. Unforatunately the cathedral was closed when we went but the crypt and this museum was open and I cant remember how much we paid but it was a surprise as we were not sure what we were going to see as we hadnt researched this.

The museum is fairly small, it was around 6€ the ticket and most of the reading labels and explanations were in Italian.
San Genaro is the patron saint of Napoli and multitude of wealthy patrons and kings donated jewels and money that ended up in this museum. You can see a few silver and gold plated statues, chalices and the two main attractions:
1.- A highly ornate necklace with rubies, sapphires, emeralds, diamonds, gold, etc.
2.- A mitre ornate again with gold and precious stones
I wouldn't put it in the top of my priorities visiting Napoli, however if you are running out of things to do and it is in your way give it a chance.

Unless you are deeply interested in San Gennaro this museum isn't worth the 10 EURO per person entry fee. The MANN in Naples was only 8 EUROS and we spent hours walking round there, Museo del Tesoro di San Gennaro really only contains a few artifacts and we saw everything in there in under 15 mins. The Duomo next door is awe inspiring and actually contains the San Gennaro relics to view for free and is a must for any visit to Naples but please don't bother with the museum!

Our taxi driver "guaranteed" to us in an adorable way :) that this was "much better than the British Crown Jewels". His enthusiasm convinced us to check it out - a fairly quick visit (under 2 hours) of artifacts from the city's protector Saint and overall historical popular figure (they say Naples celebrates this guy not once but twice a year!)
The tour of the spaces (underground and the church) was also well worth it, lots of seriously over-decorated baroque art.

I recommend this fascinating museum after a visit to the Duomo cathedral.
The guide accompanied us for about 30 minutes to discover this secret wonder.

The museum was located very close to the Duomo. No credit card payment and no photography was allowed. The necklace of St. Januarius was created over a 250 year span from 1676 to 1929. The emeralds, rubies, sapphires and gold were donated by kings, queens, and common people in Europe to design this massive and spectacular necklace.
The star of the show though was the mitre which has 3,694 precious stones: 198 emeralds which represent knowledge, 168 rubies which symbolize St. Januarius blood and 3,328 diamonds which symbolize faith. The Columbian emeralds were unbelievably large.
A person will never see such a stunning array of jewels in any crown, mitre or jewelry.

I can think the 6 € entrance fee is a bit high for such a small museum. It took us one hour, but we are also people, who look at things for a long time and read every description. The jewels and silver artefacts are amazing, but not worth the price.

is undoubtedly the greatest treasure in the world even more than the treasure of the crown, as well as having silver busts of the patron saints of Naples has priceless jewels it is said that even Napoleon took for the French everything In his war campaigns he has donated some fantastic jewels to the treasure of San Gennaro, the best guardians of the treasure are the Neapolitans who during the Second World War brought back the treasure with many vicissitudes from the Vatican and from Rome to Naples took four months the strange thing that to guarantee the trip was a criminal Camorrista and the covenant of the treasure doubted that he would bring it back but as I said the Neapolitans being very related to the saint including the criminals to avoid bandits and soldiers in disarray traveled roads that were safe for them and the treasure, and 'a unique experience in the world, I highly recommend anyone who comes to visit Naples
