I enjoyed a visit almost free of other people. The entrance lead directly to the new part, ie new floor, simple alter, above the old original floor. There were glass panels in the floor to see the original part below. Then I went downstairs to look around the old flooring where the mosaics were exposed.
It was a brief tour but it was wonderful to walk almost in the footsteps of worshippers from centuries before. Also, to appreciate their workmanship, remembering how laborious it all was but how strong their faith was to build such a significant place of worship

We always visit churches when we travel and this was a must see. They had a docent that was very knowledgeable about the ruins and you could go into the basement to see musiac floors.

Very pretty little church with a huge amount of history. Worth a visit if you have a day of random exploring to do.

This is a really excellent Romanesque church, containing a lot of earlier mosaics. There is/was a team of volunteers to guide you round the complexities of it all. The facade is magnificent; a careful study of the sculptures is very rewarding

Another "chiesa" that has seen the city build up around it. Situated in an overshadowed piazza, it would be easy to miss. But the external architecture of the church is worth examining. It wasn't open, so don't know what the inside is like, but the outside is quite interesting - if you like old buildings and architecture.

It was a fantastic pleasant visit to the Church of Our Lady. The picture of Mary in the Church is something unique and special.

I loved visiting this church. Built in the Romanesque style, its sheer simplicity gives it a true feeling of holiness. The crypt area below the church is very interesting. I would strongly advise going with a guide so that you don't miss out on any of the interesting information about the church.

A friendly docent invited us to tour the relatively recent excavations beneath the current floor of the church that exposed evidence of earlier sites of worship on the same site through the millennia.
