This is a beautiful, relaxed paced town about a 20 minute drive to the nearest seaside town of Ventimiglia. There are many B and Bs in town for your stay and plenty of restaurants, cafe's and if you have a sweet tooth, gelato too! The walk up to the Castle Doria is always worth it and make sure you stop in along the many shops on your way up. I highly recommend this out of the way village tucked into the mountains of LIgura. Enjoy.

Beautiful quiet picturesque small village. Buildings are very well preserved! People are friendly and helpful. There are some little souvenir shops too. Very peaceful and it's a nice experience strolling and relaxing in Dolceacqua!

Spent two weeks in the Region of Liguria and Dolceacqua was one of the small villages I visited twice. The beauty of the bridge is a must see, you feel like you have travelled back in time. There are few restaurant in the main Piazza, one is absoultey delicious (can't remember the name but it's one that is at the very end...no where else to walk too). When you walk through the village it's amazing. Lot's of little shops to go through.

I lived here in Dolceacqua for a time in the 80's when I was working as a free lance journalist, Only 8Kms from the Italian/French border at Ventimiglia, it gives you rapid access to Monaco and the Cote D'Azure, as well as the main cities of Italy. The town has many exquisite cobbled streets and a major square where everything happens. Some of the best food and drink available in Italy can be sourced here. Try some of the local bars and restaurants, you will not be disappointed. The local Italians are amazingly friendly people!

While vacationing in Monaco with my family (wife + two kids, aged 6 and 4), we decided to take a road trip into Italy. Our trip was Monaco - Ventimiglia - Dolceacqua - Apricale - Menton - Monaco. Dolceacqua was, in my opinion, the highlight of the trip. I had only given the town a quick glance online before leaving; I figured we'd see the bridge Monet painted and be on our way.

We were in for quite a treat.

First, a bit of practical advice. As SOON as you get to the bridge, look for the parking sign on your right, and go to the lot. It's easy and there are a lot of spaces. I, unfortunately, did not see it, then went through the main street, couldn't figure out how to turn around, made a random left turn, and I ended up on very steep, windy mountain road for about 20 minutes, while my wife clutched her seat, prayed I didn't drive off a cliff, and repeatedly told me how I terrible a driver I was. I eventually did turn around and we made it back to town in one piece.

We then went over the bridge. To our utter and complete delight, on the left was a maze-like cavern of "roads" in between buildings that were built in the 16th and 17th centuries. You literally feel like you're walking into a different time. We didn't spend too much time in there (it's tough with young kids and lots of elevation), so we exited right by the church... which was amazing. Go inside, and be delighted by the beauty that one can only see in centuries-old churches of Europe.

All in all, I would certainly recommend this as a nice side trip to anyone interested in history, art, and beauty. It's a 5/5 review from me.

We passed through this little village many times on our way to our Bed and Breakfast in Apicale, a tiny, spectacular hilltop village a few kilometers into the mountains. Dolceacqua looks like a postcard, but we found it to be full of tourists in the day, including many tour buses.

We stopped late one afternoon after going to Monaco for the day. Then it was calmer and void of the tourist and shoppers. Bars and restaurants were now filled with the laughter and the happy chatter of what looked more like locals after the exodus of daily foreign tourists. The organic market held on every last Sunday of the month is apparently really good.

Parking was reasonably easy to find and available near to the famous bridge which Monet painted. We found a small parking area and after asking a local about where to pay the amount displayed, were shown that it is only payable during certain hours. Score!

Dolceacqua is quite central to many beautiful and worthwhile day trips into France, like Monaco, Nice, the Roya Valley and best of all, the beautiful hilltop villages of Liguria, like Apricale, Pigna, Castel Vitorrio, Bijardo, and my personal favorite Rocchetta Nervina. I would definitely always choose my accommodation in one of those villages and just visit Dolceacqua for an few hours. You would, however, need to have your own transport, but if you are looking for a destination away from the tourists, then head out of Dolceacqua after checking it out. There are beautiful drives up into the mountains, but beware, one afternoon as we headed out of Dolceaqua we were surprised to see the little speeding scooter ahead of us get pulled off the road by traffic police. Amazing on these tiny winding roads, which get narrower and more and more tight as you leave the valley behind.

My mother, sister and I were visiting France and Italy from the US and took a day tour that stopped in Dolceacqua for lunch. We were given time to go into 'old town' afterward and boy were we glad we did! We could've spent the entire day here walking through the streets of the medieval village and checking out the castle atop the hill. We did some shopping here and the shop owners were incredibly kind. Lots of individual artists' studios. In my opinion, a must see if you like small, medieval villages.

This is a very scenic little village but unfortunately mostly caters to tourists. Like most of the medieval villages in the region, this place has interesting architecture and it's hard to take a bad photo from any angle, however, the inhabitants weren't very friendly unless you were making a purchase. It's cool to see, but I wouldn't want to spend too much time there. If this is your first time seeing a village like this, I am sure you will love it, so don't let my review influence you - but if you're like me and you've seen many of these kinds of villages, you're probably looking for something a little more authentic.

When driving in the Ligurian Riviera, do not miss a visit to Dolceacqua. It is very near to Ventimiglia and it is a beautiful village. The river bridge, the church and, especially, the medieval village are an unforgettable view. Always interesting to hear the story of the local delicacy "michette". Several restaurants to eat. Do not miss the local wine "Rossese", the local grappa and, naturally, the michette!

Can't beleive I was only here last week, what a wonderful little place it is! Full of interest and so beautiful. The 'Donkey Bridge' is fastinating so much history here. Had a cup of coffee in the town square in brilliant sunshine! The people here are very friendly, bought 3 pictures from the local artist very reasonably priced and really lovely. This place is so tranquill a real peace about it. The houses from outside look quite dark and may I say gloomy (to keep them cool) and the wall are extremely thick (also to keep them cool) but inside they are beautiful. Also bought some handmade jewellery here lovely! Only had chance for a half day visit as we were staying in northern Italy for only a week and there are many places to visit, but I shall go back!
