We were on a cruise that stopped at Genoa. It was a bit of a hassle to get to Portofino because the boat tours were not running that day. Not sure why. We ended up taking a taxi for the round trip. It was very nice and looked like the postcards. But not sure that was worth the trouble.

Portofino is a lovely little Italian city and part of its charm is the exclusiveness of it. It isn't easily accessed, which makes it feel different than other coastal Italian cities. But it also has a reputation and is true that it is more expensive than other cities. This piazza is crazy when the ferries of tourists arrive, but quiets down as they wander off to explore and then gets crazy when the next boat arrives to drop off and pick up people. The Piazza is filled with lots of shops and restaurants. There is a public restroom on the far side of where the ships dock and the cost is 1 euro. If you're looking for a great view or photo of Portofino, then climb the steps off the piazza to St. George's church.

Piazzetta of Portofino is bordered by hills and colorful buildings.
It is the most photographed location .
You can find here hotels, restaurants with outdoor sitting, small shops and souvenirs shops.
You can see also the bell tower of the Church of St. Martin, dating from the 12th century.
Also there is a view of the Lighthouse and the Castello Brown.

Portofino is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts I have visited in Italy because of the beautiful and colourful houses on the hills, the great food and fantastic views of the harbour. It´s not cheap, though...

Portofino is one of the top summer destinations in Europe. My wife ,the two children and I visited Portofino in july 2018.The square is very charmimg, pretty ,the small harbour full of expensive yachts and boats, colorfull waterfront buildings around the square ,but the view if you climb up the hill to the church is fantastic. The atmosphere is amazing, very romantic.I believe that is one of the most photographed villages.Restaurants and cafes are very expensive aswell as the various designer boutiques.Very picturesque and pretty village not to be missed.

This former fishing village has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Today it is a picturesque town with colorful buildings amazingly, kept churches, and beautiful high end retailers (Pucci, Dior, Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton to name the top ones). Little cafes surround the piazza, which is at the mouth of the cove. Yachts and sailboats tender as our Regent cruise ship did and a few beautiful yachts were docked right at the end of the pier.
Climb the steps to one of the beautiful churches or, if you are up for it, walk to Santa Margherita which is a larger town. The Hotel Splendide, which is known for the famous names who have stayed there, is an easy walk up the hill, too.
It’s easy to see why people choose to have a villa in this area. It’s absolutely breathtaking and the water is warm and clear.

Portofino has a stunningly attractive harbour and is one of the most photographed villages along the Italian coast and worth visiting for its unique beauty. What seems almost incongruous though is that what must have been a relatively poor fishing community at one time has now been taken over by the rich and famous. As a result what restaurants there are tend to be very expensive and what shops there are tend to be designer boutiques. So I recommend that you visit to see how lovely it is but avoid staying or eating there because of the cost. Look but don't touch!

Just as the other reviews will detail, this is a definitely beautiful place to be. I have travelled lots and I work in London so prices generally do not register with me. The bars were super pricey and I was glad to have a bottle of water with me to avoid the €5 price tag. It's a shame that this left me feeling potentially exploited. That said it is worth a visit to enjoy the impressive and beautiful views.

The shoreline at arrival is neat and pristine with its multi colored houses.
The small leisure marina presents wonderful yachts, motor or sail ones.
This is the main plazza, you can find there all the world luxury brands you can imagine in such a tiny place.
The bars and cafes around the plazza are pleasant to stay and rest and watch the tourists gathering around their guides upon arrival et before leaving by small ferry boats.
