Utterly stunning Middle Ages and Renaissance beauties hiding behind this lovely old church in their museum. This is the Capella Portinari, one of the most exquisite places to visit in Milan or anywhere if you love ecclesiastical art of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. The Huge marble tomb of the Martyr Peter, covered in wonderful sculptures on three levels, was carved in 1339, the extraordinary chapel Full of fascinating frescoes in which it sits was decorated in the 1400s. The ring of angels in the drum of the dome is unbelievable. This is a gem, up there with the Last Supper and anything else in the great treasures of the city.

This church was great for a quick stop. I recommend searching for it on the internet for more information about the church and its history as none is provided.

This was an important church historically because it was said to contain the tomb of the three Magi. There are some interesting art works and the very impressive Three Kings sarcophagus.

True, we have arrived a bit late, around 18:10. The man from the church was closing all the doors, despite the church was said to be open till half pas six.

Managed to get in and have a quick look at the interior, but did not have the time to rest and immerse the atmosphere, because the above mentioned man made everybody to go out in an angry manner at 18:20.

I went here because it was recommended on the map of Milano Antica that can be bought at the Museo Archeologico. The entrance fee (6 euro) is steeper than most of the other churches on the route, save for the Duomo. I guess it was worth it, but the main attraction, a carved tomb for some local medieval bigwig, left me colder than the corpse therein. The actual church is nice (complete with the sort of ancient 12th century wooden cross that one normally sees hanging on the white walls of a museum but looks and feels so much appropriate in situ) and there's some fascinating discoveries in the early Christian crypt below. But overall, if you have to skip one of the churches on the route, this is the one I'd sacrifice.

Quite an old church but the current building is mainly romanesque. There are a number of side altars of interest but the main attraction is the Portinari Chapel. This is part of the museum section of the church so there is an entrance fee. It contains a raised sepulchre extremely well carved in a chapel decorated by frescoes. Well worth the entrance ticket.

Close to the nearby San Lorenzo so both churches can be visited successively.

What makes the Basilica di Sant'Eustorgio an important church in Milan is the fact that each new bishop of Milan has to begin his procession at this place going to the Milan cathedral Duomo. Another important fact is, it has been a favorite place for stop of Pilgrims in Europe because it originally housed the remains of the Three Magi. It is also one of the oldest churches and buildings in Milan. We had a Hop On Hop Off Tour and this beautiful church is near the drop off point.

Most tourists will focus on the Duomo (Cathedral) when visiting Milan but if you feel more adventurous visit some of the other churches in this most Italian of cities. The Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio is well worth visiting and can be approached by the Metro or by cab. The church is home to one of the finest pieces of 14c sculptures in italy namely the tomb of St Peter the Martyr and the supposed tomb of the Maji. Unlike many old building in Italy your visit will be peaceful and I memorable.

We passed this beautiful quiet church a few times prior to visiting and was always intrigued by it. The outside is actually more beautiful than the inside. About 3 euros for entry i think and that will get you in the church and museum. Certainly a must visit.
