This is a valley where you have a friendly green hillside on the right side with a great possibillity to hike ending up at the refugio elena. On the left side your eyes meet a unfriendly world with glaciers and grey and high mountains. If you move further to col grand ferret you will soon reach switzerland. Enjoy

This is a very special cross country skiing valley. Beautifully groomed, a decent distance (about 20km), interesting detours with a bit of up and down, and fantastic views. There are several bars/restaurants in the valley but their food seems mediocre at best so I'd suggest taking your own drink and sandwich. The first time we went was a sunny Sunday and it was quite crowded (there are also walking paths). In school holidays and at weekends you have to leave your car down the valley and take a bus up which is a bit annoying, especially as the buses don't come that frequently. The second time was a Friday and we were able to drive to the start of the ski run which was practically empty. Although a valley, it's quite high so the snow quality was good even in late march. I imagine that the walking here in the summer must be amazing.

In a day with a very bad weather forecast we chose to hike around the valley instead of being enveloped in clouds on the skyway
Great choice plenty of flat walking alongside the quiet Road which is beautiful or take off up the mountain with a few different trails
We parked at plampieux ( check spelling )

Take the bus from Courmayeur to Plan des Principieux and take the footpath into the valley. Tip: start early, other visitors start much later.
No cars around, only you and a few langlaufers in a total silent and impressive white world. And every thirty minutes a bar/restaurant for the thirsty hiker!

We wanted to repeat our first fantastic hike in this fairy-tale valley. Alas, it has become so popular, there are now hundreds coach loads that utterly ruin it.

We came here on a beautiful Thursday afternoon but lost an hour looking for and waiting for a parking spot so in the end we just had lunch and skipped the ski de fond. Too bad - we were told it's really beautiful. It would probably be better to take a bus to come here to avoid having to park.

The view is unbeatable, there are a couple of very good restaurants, it's the paradise for the cross country skiers, with a ski rental on site. Full of families with small kids as well, since a walk in the valley is a full day activity for all ages, somebody makes it longer, some others with kids make it shorter. Nice atmosphere, superb nature, a lot of photos.

Courmayeur 100%
Lovely town, the food, the markets, the streets, and the very very nice .
I recommend Hotel Tavernier (trekking routes pass by it) located in a fantastic waterfall that oversees the town and you can enjoy their natural terms and spa - also it has the friendliest owner in the world, she will cater to anything you need.

Buona serata. Sara
