Wonderful Palermo, the Sicily island capital. The historical downtown is rich of monuments and attractions. The Politeama theater is one of my favorite.

A nice example of neoclassical architecture, this beautiful and imposing theater is the work of Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda.
It was inaugurated on June 7th, 1874, unfinished and without a roof, with Vincenzo Bellini's opera "I Capuletti e I Montecchi", a thrilling detail for Opera Lovers.
Today the Politeama Garibaldi Theater is the home of the Sicilian Symphonic Orchestra Foundation.
During my visit, I attended a concert of the Sicilian Orchestra, conducted by the Italian composer Nicola Piovani, who won the Oscar for the intrumental soundtrack of the film "La Vita è Bella", directed by Roberto Benigni.
It was a wonderful journey through the music of great Italian movies.

when I started my journey to Palermo, I didn't know where to stay, so I must have booked 30 hotels, true story, but I listened to Vagabonda to stay in the Politeama area.
We chose Hotel Garibaldi and when we opened the door to the Balcony and the massive Testro was right in front of my face, I was thrilled, so beautiful, I felt, I was on top of the world.
Wonderful area for people watching, eating, shopping, or just sitting
It really is the center of Palermo, the structure is beautiful and very italian

I Love the Teatro Politeama, if you stay in Palermo stay in the Piazza for a bit, eat an ice cream, sit and in the benches and watch: it is the hearth of Palermo. The concert season of the Friends of Music draws up two programs every year. One in the afternoon (intended mainly for enthusiasts of classical and romantic repertoire) and one evening (more contemporary)

Interesting tour of the theater, pretty fabulous interior, but funding is drying up and I hope it can be saved.

The Teatro Politeama is a very attractive structure. The location is very central with a large open space fronting the theatre. The overall environment is very satisfying. Worth a visit.

Honestly, it was depressing and sad to see this building in such poor condition. It looked very unkepted: garbage around, iron gate around it, broken windows, washed-out colours; a very tired looking building. Sadly, we were unable to go inside. We actually thought it was in such a bad state, that it was closed. In its prime it was probably a stunning structure, and the centre of the town. We have since seen pictures of it lite up at night and it still has that grand, beautiful look.
