About
Trompenburg Gardens & Arboretum is the green pearl in the city of Rotterdam. Throughout the year admiring visitors come and enjoy exploring the gardens. Nature’s beauty changes magically with each new season. This former country estate covers 20 acres and boasts a magnificent collection of plants that includes very old beeches and oaks, 700 varieties of rhododendron, more than 100 varieties of holly, the Dutch National Collection of Hostas and countless others. Refreshments can be had on the sunny terrace at the entrance or in the cosy tea room in De Uithoek where they also serve lunch.

We went to kill time on our last afternoon in Rotterdam. We felt it was pretty pricey in comparison to other attractions. It was a shame that some areas of the garden didn't seem to be very well maintained. There were some pretty spots and it was alright for a wander round, but we won't be back in a hurry.

Rather than a botanics it reminded me of a private garden/estate which had been opened to the public. Note if going the second garden at the back where you scan your ticket in and out.

Lovely oasis in rotterdam as much of rotterdam is sculpture and city.

Good clean toilets.

The Hut was very reasonably priced tea and amazing apple pie.

Peaceful.and highlight of trip.

Would return if back in the city.

When you arrive at Rotterdam Central railway station, take tram 21 or 24 (direction De Esch and stop Woudestein) and within half an hour you will be surrounded by wonderful trees, plants, flowers and cactus in the Arboretum Trompenburg. This place was recommended by my eternal travelling dad and I read lots of positive reviews on Tripadvisor. But I was really blown away by this awesome green spot: a very quiet and relaxing spot, a wide range of wonderful plants and flowers, beautiful lanes and small bridges, a nice voliere with small exotic birds and an exciting greenhouse that is dedicated to cactus, what a spectacular collection of all sorts of cactus, my favorite plant! You can walk to the Teahouse or take a break at the small restaurant/shop at the entrance, it all looks very welcoming, clean and green, highly recommended!

Ideal to visit when the weather is warmer and not in January as we did! There is a reduced fee for students and one can spend as much time there as you'd like. The staff are really friendly and the space is clean, with a small cafe at the entrance as well as a book and novelty store. The garden is relatively small compared to others. It is beautifully serene and we enjoyed walking along the paths, passing ducks and other interesting birds, as well as the hot houses. The garden is situated alongside a really pretty neighbourhood which is also beautiful to walk in.

What a disappointment ... I was told they don’t accept any international credit/debit cards. This is the first time when I was told this, never had any problems with other places. So just be aware if you like me don’t carry any cash.

You can spend a Nice many Horus in this quiet but very nicely decoratief garden. Eitjes Buy a snack in the restaurant or take Some snacks and water with you. There even is a second garden across the road (you could think you'te the only one in the garden)

My girlfriend and I visited in June 2014 and, whilst we did enjoy the visit, we didn't find it as amazing as the reviews suggested it to be. At €6.50 each, we didn't really get anything more out of it than a few pretty pictures. It really was lovely to walk around, but we didn't find the experience much different from any of the other (free) gardens we've been to.

I've been a visitor of the Arboretum Trompenburg for many years. I absolutely love this place. It has grown in size over the years. The best time to visit? In may-june, when al the Rhododendrons and Azalea's are flowering. But it is a cleansing experience any time of the year!

This is a little out of the way, but worth the trip. The rhododendrons were past their peak, but the water gardens were impressive. Get a Rotterdam visitor's pass.
