This road, a path from Cascais Village to Lisbon and beyond -North - is very confusing, full Cement built up areas, noisy, traffic and traffic lights galore but when just facing the Atlantic Wowwww ! Its special ! Full of little beaches, great surfing, little and big places to hang out watching the sun come up or go down. Ignore the Cement jungle behind you and you will find lots of little surprises and centro de interpretação ambiental da pedra do sal is one.

...which is a shame!
Some explanations on local Geology and Biology, and a nice place with a fantastic view for a snack or even a short-meal.
There is also a nice trail along the cliffs with amazing views over the ocean and coast!

from the centres info:
AVENCAS BEACH | PEDRA DO SAL
Located between Bafureira and Parede there is a small beach, extremely rich in biodiversity,
Avencas Beach. Due to its geological and biological characteristics, this rocky beach was listed in
1998 as a classified area - ZIBA – the “Zone of Biophysical Interest of Avencas.”
At low-tide, it’s possible to walk along a trail that takes visitors across the rocky platform, where
they will encounter various tide pools, teeming with marine life.
The Pedra do Sal Environmental Interpretation Centre is located in this scenic spot. The building was the first "Zero energy" public building in Portugal.
The centre offers a unique experience - allowing visitors to observe and handle species that live at ZIBA, such
as starfish and sea urchins.
The Centre also offers innovative exploration tools that enable interactive content to be viewed,
thus fostering a close relationship between the visitor and the surrounding biophysical heritage.
It’s also possible to carry out various outdoor activities, such as follow an interpretative route
across the cliffs of the coastal zone, passing through the Caparide stream and ending at the former
casemates - houses, with a searchlight and generator – which were built in the mid 20th
century, as part of the network of coastal defense posts.
Activities: Interpretation of the Rocky shores at Avencas beach (permanent exhibition)
Guided tours, Birdwhatching, connecting large routes (GR11 (E9) - Caminho do Atlântico), Fun and Thematic games.

I highly recommend hopping off the train in São Pedro and dropping by the Pedra do Sal - not for the centre that is there, but for the amazing view, including a historical artifact from the Portuguese plans for self-defence in case there was a German invasion in WW2. The views are simply fantastic - of open sea, of the wonderful Estoril coastline. Top!

... to rest, before you return to Cascais. to walk along the coastline is mostly quiet and a few restaurants are at the beach. Impressive views to both sides of the coastline. Return by suburban train is easy - to walk is more nice... ;-))
