Twenty years ago we found good Madeiran/Portugese food here. The latter pre-coronian years Yuan Sushiwok Restaurante made it worth the ride. Today we found Yuan's Sushiwok had been replaced by a shop selling junk, We think — together with all the american (US) junkfood shops you can ever think of. Other people might have their own preferences, of course, but we paid our last visit to MS today.

Madeirashopping has more than 100 shops. There are plenty of famous brands (Zara, Stradivarius, Mc Donalds, KFC etc) and other unique in Madeira island (Gant, Fnac, Rockport, Mike Davis, Douglas, Natura Selection, Body Shop, Boticario etc). Free parking. Largest foodcourt in Funchal.

After returning from the tobogan run and walking into the centre we stumbled into part of Funchal centre and spent a couple of hours shopping. Nice and relaxing varied shops as it was down a large street rather than a shopping mall

It was good because non of the shops were represented in the UK so it was a different experience also had a nice snack in Cafe Canela not shown yet on tripadvisor so I have requested it to be added and I will give my review when authorised. I will also up load photos to all my Madeira reviews when I return to Liverpool

We always try to pick a day to visit Madeira shopping when we know rain is forecast. From the exterior The shopping centre looks a little bleak but don’t be put off. Once you take the escalator down two floors you enter a shiny brightly lit air conditioned retail heaven. There are most of the popular retail shops under one roof here and the shop owners are all very pleasant and less jaded than those in the city centre. There is a dedicated floor serving all sorts of takeaway food and ample parking should you take a car. There is also a taxi rank opposite the centre. Outside should you walk through the village, there are two great design home interior stores worthy of a look for ideas too. Recommend you try it.

After visiting annually the beautiful island of Madeira we finally found Madeira Shopping under our own steam.
Even being a touch dated now we still think it is the best shopping in one area and well worth a visit.
Plenty of parking and lots of places to eat different food. It even offers good views. Traditional and designer shops offer plenty of choice for all. Personally would not want to be there for more than a couple of hours but worth putting as a stop off point if you hire a car. The road up from the junction at the Pestana Miramar, follow the signs and just keep heading upwards. Interesting location with quite a few retail places there.

These two shopping centres were constructed by the same people and have almost identical stores in them. The only discernible difference we could spot was that Madeira shopping had a FNAC and the Forum didn't and the Forum had a C&A that Madeira Shopping did not.
It all depends on what type of shopper you are as to whether you will enjoy these places or not. If you are a bargain basement sort of shopper then stick to the bazars in the town centre but if you are after designer or upmarket gear then both places will suit.
MS has free parking but the layout is rather confusing and it depends on which door you enter as to how easy it is to get to the food court on level 1. There are 15 places in the food court serving all sorts of food. McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC, Burger King, Sushi, Buffet, cakes, ice cream etc, I am sure there is something for every palette. The cinema had six films showing when we were there,
The Forum is more logically laid out but there is a charge for the car park. We were there for about two hours and it cost 1.40 so not mega bucks. There are three shopping floors and a roof garden but the shop names and stock were exactly the same.
The Forum is in the hotel district and so it was busier and there were only half a dozen or so eateries (so less choice) but MS is a car ride away (buses and taxi's obviously an option) and there is not much more in the vicinity.
So hopefully if your planning your day the above may assist.

This is the place to come. Every conceivable shop and style of food is available here. It’s still a bright and shiny shopping mall that had stood the test of time. Other shopping malls have come and gone and Madeirans are always looking for the next shiny new store or restaurant to appear but this is steadfastly still a favourite. We find the people working in this mall so much nicer then those in the centre of Funchal. They maintain genuine interest in politeness and sincerity something we’ve noticed is becoming jaded in the tourist traps of town. A big thumbs up from us.

We thought on our last day we would check out one of the local shopping malls and this according to the guide book was the biggest in Maderia with over 100 shops and had fantastic views over Funchal from the various cafes. We thought we would get a local bus there and bought a day ticket for 5 euros.

But what a disappointment! The bus drops you off at the top parking level and you make your way down a couple of floors. I felt as if we must have missed something as we could only find the level with the cinema and the fast food joints, and then two other levels of shops and there certainly was not over a 100 shops – more like 20! The Dolce Vita underneath our hotel was smaller but better in my opinion! And I have seen better views of Funchal!

The only good thing about the wasted morning was using the local bus which was an experience.

It’s all underground! Good large supermarket, used by local residents. Great shoe shops, fashion. Cinema with recent release films. Also shop selling DVDs in English. Apparently Madeirans are happy to watch a film in the language it was made in. There is a cafe in there not well signed.

Our whole family really liked the mix of shops and earning options here - nice to get somewhere not selling all the souvenirs and touristy things everywhere else locally is focused on, some shops like home and other nice new brands to shop through. We all found lots of clothes reasonably priced with decent sales on during our visit and our mum even went in for early Christmas shopping in her second week !! 😆 ASR’s full !! Large ‘Pingo Doce’ in the lower floor for all your food shopping needs and some Madeiran food products for reasonably priced gifts
