Amazing experience, 2nd time being here. Customer service is amazing and can't wait to go back. Lady at reception was very etentive and knowlegable. Only thing would change was the tapas as wasn't flaveable but could be my tastebuds.

Absolutely amazing service start to finish. Nina was amazing via email helping me plan my boyfriend's birthday treat and the girls on the day made us feel so welcome! Will definitely be returning! Only tip... once your treatment is over, make your way to the lounge if you're unsure what to do! We waited to be moved from our Rasul room but they preferred to allow us to leave of our own accord to wait for our next treatment. Relaxed and peaceful environment, Thankyou so much!

Treated my bestie to a little spa day for her birthday and we had the best day, the staff were so welcoming and friendly. We felt relaxed for the minute we entered the building it was such a chill vide. We had a back hot stone massage, facial and scalp treatment and these were all amazing and again the staff were so reassuring. We felt amazing when leaving thank you

What an amazing spa!! I booked the Midweek Pamper session for my boyfriends birthday and it was fabulous! We booked the candlelight pool, and that was so relaxing, and the treatments were unbelieveable. The lunch we had afterward was also great! Excellent value for money!!

Lady at reception was really helpful and friendly and welcoming, the treatments were amazing! The only downside was when I went down for my food, the 2 girls on the bar looked like they wanted to be anywhere else but there. They were on their phones alot and whispering to each other and I could see their e-cigarettes on the countertop. They seemed very unprofessional. The food was amazing though just the service of the 2 girls was a bit of a downer

    A relaxing, child free day
We had a lovely time. Friendly staff and a good location - easy to find with parking. Our second time visiting here to celebrate hubby's birthday. So relaxing he fell asleep! He was especially happy that the therapist didn't ignore his thick beard! Thank you.

    Lovely relaxing chill
The staff at Portland Hall Spa are lovely and the treatments were excellent. We had a hot stone massage and a facial and both were really relaxing. I felt amazing afterwards, so chilled and refreshed. We had tapas after which were delicious. I would definitely recommend the experiences at this spa.

Wonderful day of pampering and relaxation, highly recommended
My daughter and I visited the Portland Hall spa on Thursday 6th July, with a start time of 10:15 am and end time of 5:30 pm. I can honestly say the whole day was an absolute joy, the facilities were really lovely, all the staff were extremely friendly, pleasant and helpful, we had three treatments which were all absolutely fabulous. We had an enjoyable three course lunch in the bistro. My daughter and I both enjoyed a really wonderful day at the spa and would definitely go again and recommend it to friends. It was also excellent value for money.

We had an absolutely wonderful day at Portland hall today, from start to finish the spa staff were extremely friendly and professional, nothing was too much for them. My mum and I visited using a voucher we had the candlelight spa upgrade and also upgraded to the 3 course meal. The candlelight spa was lovely and relaxing and I especially liked that you got exclusive use for an hour, the only comment I would make is I thought the upgrade price of nearly £50 for an hour was a little steep but none the less it was a lovely warm hot tub and the fruit skewers were yummy! We then had our treatments of back and shoulder massage and I choose to also have the body alignment, I’ve got to say it was the best massage I’ve ever had! The therapist was wonderful and worked really hard to get rid of all those knots! Both mum and I agreed we felt very relaxed and happy. Then we had lunch, I chose pitta and hummus and mum chose butternut squash soup, both were absolutely delicious and the soup is made fresh on site by the chef and was very good. The portion sizes were generous. We both had steak and Stilton ciabatta with salad and chips, I would recommend this, it was tender, tasty and full of flavour! Again generous portion sizes, we couldn’t actually finish we were that full! We asked to delay pudding until after our next treatment which was no problem, we then had facials where again the therapist took time to ask about our skin types and catered a treatment especially for us, it was lovely, we finally finished up with pud and a cuppa. It was a full day out 10:30-3:30 and we both felt very happy saying we’d love to return. The building itself is stunning inside, we were told it’s an old monetary, over 200 years old, the stain glass windows were beautiful, overall a lovely day out 10/10

This was a wowcher deal given to me as a christmas gift. On booking we were told that as it was 'half term' we would need to pay the weekend supplement. This was not in the wowcher fine print. We were given the option to upgrade to afternoon tea rather than a light lunch for an extra £45, which would then include our robes and slippers, and the supplement at a discounted rate. This was fair enough I thought, as I was really looking forward to the day.

I am not one to complain and I really want to focus on the positives. I thought the staff were very polite and professional, and my back massage was really good, I had a lot of tension in my muscles which was relieved and the girl was very informative during my facial. The building and windows were beautiful.

I see a spa experience as a whole sensory and relaxation experience in which this unfortunately was not. I think a few changes could make this place a lot better.

On arrival to reception we were met by the awful smell of dirty cooking oil, presumably coming from the kitchen at the back. This was very off putting as the area we were taken to to fill our details in was misty from cooking and smelt a lot worse as closer to the kitchen. To make it worse, you had to pass through this area to go to the only toilet on the ground floor. There were no toilet or shower facilities within the cramped changing area which were unisex.

The room we were taken to to have our treatments appeared to be tranquil, but I was slightly horrified as the sheets that were laid on the massage tables were clearly not clean as you could see that they were covered in ground in oil, and did not smell the best either. My suspicions were confirmed as there was a piece of blue clinical tissue roll on top of the sheets. I have never seen this at any other spa before, ever.

After our treatments we were taken to the lounge where we were seated before our treatments. There was water and a small range of herbal tea on offer. This area was not very quiet or relaxing though as the was a partition into the dining area which was ajar.

When we were called through for our afternoon tea, it was already laid on the table and our seats were pointed out to us. We were half way through it before we were offered a drink. This was a mug of tea and not a tea pot. The food was presentable but certainly not worth the price. It would have been a nice touch if the cakes and scones were home made and not shop bought. I have also never had a houmous and pepper sandwich before either, but the bread was fresh.

I cannot comment on the pool area as we did not upgrade to this.

All in all I think the treatments were worth the money, but a few simple touches could really improve the place, including the layout. It is clear that corners have been cut to save money.

The experience was good but I would
not visit this place again. I have never left a spa feeling dirty and smelling of chip fat before, nor do I want to again!

Today we visited Portland hall spa, me and my daughter who is 10. I won this as a Groupon voucher in a raffle and it consisted of spa day for 2, welcome drinks, 3 treatments each and a light lunch. We then paid a little seen as we got this day for free, to upgrade to the private candle lit pool which was well worth the money!! On booking I asked if children were allowed, explained that my daughter is ten but is very well behaved and they said this was fine but she would have to have different treatments to me which was fine.
So we arrived, and were greeted on reception by Jenny. My daughter was a little bit anxious going in as she has never done anything like this before and thought everyone would be looking at her because she's a child. Jenny absolutley went out if her way to make Macy feel more than welcome at the spa. She got her own form to fill in, her own robe and slippers, and Jenny kept calling us 'ladies' so my daughter was just made up and felt totally comfortable and I'm so greatful for that. We were sat down and given drinks, then we were taken for our candle lit pool. We were taken downstairs into a basement type room and it was absolutley beautiful, all candle lit, 2 rocking loungers, a massive hot tub, 2 showers and a plate with 2 fresh fruit kebabs and a glass of water each. We spent the hour in there relaxing and loved every minute. We then came up and were taken for our treatments, mine was a 25 min back massage, a 25 facial and a hair and scalp treatment. My daughter was told she could have a facial and her nails painted and an eye treatment, she was thrilled, but the lady who did my daughter's treatments dragged them out and applied a hair treatment to her, I'm assuming so that hers took the same length of time as mine so she wasn't left waiting. Amazing. My daughter loved it, so did I. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. We then went for lunch and that was delicious too! My daughter cleared her plate and she generally very fussy. We have the best day together and we will definatley be returning.... Hopefully on a free visit that you stand a chance of winning In the prize draw when leaving a trip advisor review ha ha! Thanks everyone at Portland hall!

I booked an experience for 2 for a treat for my sisters birthday. 3 treatments and a light bite, was a good price so added on the Exotic Moroccan Rasul for 2, which was described as a relaxing steam chamber to enhance the use of detoxifying mud and showers to rinse.

The chamber was clearly not working as it should, no steam and the water from the shower was cold. When bringing this to the attention of one of the staff we were told its fine 'its not a sauna' we persevered for a short while but sat in a cold chamber covered in mud decided to bring it up again to another member of staff again to be told its fine.

We know its not a sauna which is dry heat but surely the chamber should be warm as steam is generated from heat.

Not being happy to sit cold we rinsed off in tepid water and left the room. Also no towels to dry off !!

On leaving and settling our bill for added extras and drinks they didn't charge as 'we weren't happy with our experience' of the Exotic Moroccan Rasul ( so more or less cut even for the price of the experience and wasn't prepared to discuss further as the rest of the afternoon was lovely and didn't want to end up debating after relaxing massage) however I think its better to just admit yes its not working properly and apologise (probably due to being out of use during lockdown period as only just opened) rather than trying to pass it off as the experience should be.

Was really happy with our other treatments which was a good price in the package we had (neck, shoulder and back massage with hot stones as an added on extra, facial and eye treatment )Hayley was amazing thank you, I left totally relaxed.

Food was nice but I would think a light bite is more than a starter but less than meal.
Cocktails were lovely.

There were no towels not sure if this was an oversight due to reopening after prolonged period but if not would recommend towels being available after Exotic Moroccan Rasul Experience once it gets fixed.

Booked as a treat for myself and mum , our first time at a spa and worth every penny !
Both had a 25 min back massage and a 25 min facial (we paid an extra £15 pp to upgrade the facial products to PAYOT) . The back massage was absolutely amazing and the facial left my skin feeling amazing for days !
After treatments we had a 3 course meal booked and tbh wasn’t expecting much as we were there for treatments primarily but the food was high end restaurant stuff and the service was a full 10 out of 10.
We have recommended this spa to all our friends as we were super impressed by the professional friendly staff, cleanliness of the spa and how very welcome we were made to feel and definitely not forgetting the amazing treatments.
Hoping to book in again very soon when we can do it all again with extra bonus of using the candlelight spa pool.

Visited yesterday this being a Christmas Treat from the children. Really looking forward to it.

Upon arrival I was hoping that inside was much nicer and just like the website.

Lady on reception very nice and polite. First impressions all we could smell was food and not aromatherapy oils.

Taken to complete a form and choose our lunch which we had additionally paid just short of £50 to upgrade to the 3 course a la carte menu and to be there on a Sunday.

Changing rooms mixed which wasn't a problem however the door didn’t lock. Have to admit they did smell of drains I think the other guests who were leaving thought it was my husband! It wasn’t. Given robes and slippers these were clean. Locker key provided.

Taken for our massage therapists really nice and chatty and the treatment was lovely. I where to hang our dressing gown as the hook had fallen off the door. Wasn’t an issue as they got a box for us to put our robes in.
Then to lunch.... well. As this was a VIP booking a bottle of champagne was included we asked to take this home upon arrival as my husband was driving. Shown to our table the girl behind the bar said I’ve opened your champagne. Sorry we’ve already said we were taking it home. Ok but I’ve opened it she commented to the other girl.
Starter was nice, pate and fish cake
Main - chicken skewer and pitta bread
Steak Ciabatta which came on a baguette and the portion of fries didn’t turn up
Offered water - glasses handed to us with the ladies fingers inside the glass.
Onto the facial and mini treatment
Taken upstairs different therapists, not personable at all. Started treatment then left the room for 5 mins I thought she’d done this to go and blow her nose as she appeared to have a cold. Then the other one treating my husband left. Not sure as they didn’t say or describe the process.
Overall the place is old we can cope with that but it does need sprucing up, fixing locks and hooks and needs a good clean as we wasn’t impressed lay on a bed looking up at dust and cobwebs and because things weren’t going as we expected or we were actually looking for faults, but finding them.
We wouldn’t visit again unfortunately

Firstly thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your time with ourselves. We are sorry for any confusion about the bottle of champagne, almost of all the guests will have there champagne while at the spa so it's not unusual for the waitress to assume that you'd be having it with your meal. We are not aware of any drainage issue however we will be sure to have a look into that. We have passed your comments on to our members of staff. Thank you for visiting and we hope to see you soon

I was given the VIP voucher for two as a gift, the treatments we had were good, unfortunately that’s the only positive thing I can say.

When it came to book, all correspondence felt like a hard sell to upgrade further.
I didn't as I felt my voucher covered everything, 2 x treatments plus a mini treatment, light lunch and champagne, sounded great, but I still had to pay £34 to actually use the voucher. I don't think anyone expects to get or give a gift that can't be used unless you pay out before using it.

I have been to many spa's where the 'one use' slippers & gowns are free of charge, here it is mandatory that you pay to use their tatty, over used slippers & gowns, unless you upgrade!

Our light lunch was a starter served at 11, unless you choose to … upgrade!

Don't be fooled by the picture of the pool, as this is only for those that ….. upgrade!

The only relaxation area is where everyone sits before going in/out of treatment rooms and the dining room. Treatment room/building was very cold. No showering facilities in the small changing room. Time restrictions unless you ...... upgrade!

I sent some feedback, I was thanked for my comments and they would take them on board, but unsurpisingly the email then went into a sales pitch of how Groupon Vouchers are restricting, we should book direct or of course ……… UPGRADE!

These are Quick enough to take your money and always asking for extras when you buy eg visor for staff 3 pound each? Using the same visors. I stupidly upgraded to afternoon tea the ham sandwich had a big string in it!! When complaining they’ve offered me a voucher for there days later I do not want to return! Constant money making. We were very disappointed by the whole day, quite sad as it was a birthday present and not a cheap one! Be careful when booking on wowcher I spent an extra 40 pound on top of that!! There are far nicer spas in liverpool and surrounding areas. Do not bother honestly. Hot tub you also have to book in advance when booking the hot tub is on the photos, false advertisement so basically went for a massage facial the third treatment is a con. Body alignment was pulling of hands and legs twice each. Also needs major refurbishment work. Money grabbers don’t bother

If your planning on booking a spa deal here think again.
You will get charged an addition £10-20pp to go at the weekend, an extra £7pp to wear the compulsory dressing gown and an extra £10pp to use the lockers (in case you rob them, apprently...).
Your light lunch is actually a starter, and if you fancy the fishcakes (like me) then you can expect nothing more than one frozen birdseye fishcake on a bed of salad with no dressing & a glass of £1 concentrated orange juice that was undiscreetly poured in front of us. Avoid going in the evening, because you will have the staff closing down the premices around you (the chef walked past our table with a full binbag, the tea/coffee/water facilities were taken from us before we had time to help ourselves),we could hear the therapists LOUDLY packing the room away whilst we were trying to 'relax' with our face masks on, and then the therapists had their bags packed ready to go and telling us we needed to get changed and leave...after their failed sales pitch for product purchasing. You will spend more time waiting around than anything else ( we spent a good 20 minutes unclothed on the therapy beds waiting for our therapists to come back in). The place is cold, smelly and filthy and the treatments are basic. Needs to be shut down.

Absolutely loved our time here. The building is an old synagogue, feels very spiritual and relaxing. The day spa is central to all local amenities too. Lyn was so very helpful in making sure we got the upmost value for our money. (Always better booking direct). I had an hours hot stone, always worth upgrading for the extra time because it is THAT good. My massage was with Sophie, she was great, very knowledgeable and made me feel relaxed and at ease. We also had a facial and a PAYOT scalp treatment which was perfect. The time went way to quick and before you know it, it’s over. Next time I’m going to book treatments to be there all day! Also I would love to book the candle lit bath next time too. We had the light bite of soup which was lovely and as a whole throughly enjoyed our time here. All staff very friendly and welcoming. Thankyou so much guys. See you again soon.
Also may I add that we were late arriving due to childcare but the team still managed to fit us in and make sure we were looked after. We really appreciated this as like most parents...we never get time away from the kids 😂 x
