As someone mentioned this place has great potential. This ghost town is a former mining town dating back to Roman times. You can roam the abandoned mine buildings and explore the nearby beaches for an unusual day out. To us the place was magical with so much potential.

We were planning to hit the beach after reading about it here. On arriving we realized that one reason they are empty is the pollution cause of the mines. The have regulations about how often kids should swim there etc, so we figured it was not for us. If you don’t travel with kids, it might not be such a big deal though.

So we instead took the advise and walked up the small mountains to get the views towards Capo Caccia. And wow! Had our lunch up the top. Had to hold the kids tight cause the mountains are steep but it was amazing. Thank you for this experience!

To speak about Sardinia is to speak of the most beautiful and surprising island of the Mediterranean, with a perfect fusion between sea and mountain, full of traditions, history, details, curiosities and a spectacular gastronomy. La Argentiera, located very close to Sassari and Alghero, is a town where time has stopped, reminding us of its mining past and its golden age where silver was a source of life. Currently, the population prepares a high-level mining museum, restoring several buildings while offering information to the visitor. I recommend walking up to Punta Argentiera (278m) and going down the western ridge, from where you can see a beautiful view of Capo Caccia.

We were really disappointed by this one because we had so big expectations due to nice reviews and pictures. The old mining city has a great potential, it has nice old buildings... unfortunately it is really not kind to a visitor. There is no guide, no museum, no signs with information e.g. what the building served for, no paths, you cant go inside etc. I really think that it would be nice making a path and add few signs with historical info, so that tourists can get to know the place even without a guide or museums...

In summer 2015 we travelled all around Sardinia by car and this was honestly the best beach that we found due to 2 factors - it was surprisingly empty for an Italian beach so you could enjoy your space and the waves were super cool. Plus, you can easily park for free there pretty close to the beach itself. I would definitely want to go there again someday!

We have been visiting Agentiera for 3 years and always take our friends to see this interesting abandoned town close to Alghero. It is finally coming alive and yesterday we visited the newly opened Silver Mine Museum. We were given a very interesting guided tour and thought it was very good. Its free too!

I hope they get lots of visitors but would suggest they need to exhibit the silver mining process with more visual aids such as a display of samples of rock extracted from the hill side and then show it as it changes through the work of the machines and washing processes to extract the silver. Good luck and congratulations!

Argenitera is the commune of Sassari's best kept secret! I first stumbled upon it unexpectedly in the summer of 2016. An easy 30minute drive from the Alghero airport, this beach is a travelers paradise: crystal clear waters and the dramatic landscapes Sardinia is known for-but without the crowds!! The beach is handicap and stroller friendly- which blew my mind! Above the beach are gorgeous and easy walking paths (if you like a hike) with picturesque, awe inspiring views of the untouched shoreline. The town is home to 1 restaurant and the "famed" Sombrero Beach bar. Unlike other beach bars on the beaches in Sardinia I found this one approachable with outstanding food. The trick at the Sombrero, is to ask in the morning or early afternoon what the dinner catch will be. While the Sombrero has a regular- basic- beach bar menu, the owner also offers by request only sunset dinners. Also the Sombrero has music nights and an occasional outdoor movie night! Above all you would think a cozy dinner spot like this would be date night exclusive, but it is extremely family friendly and often filled with locals.

Because we nearly skipped Argentiera, I would like to point out that the old town is indeed worth a visit when passing by the west coast of Sardinia.
The attached pictures I have taken are not too representative as I was simply occupied with taking in the ghost town appearance of the city.
I thought it was fascinating reading about the city's history as you explore unfinished hotel complexes (because someone obviously found out at some point that lead and iron on the beach does not exactly add to healthbenefits) ! If you're fascinated with ghost towns, this could be interesting to you.

We went to this beach on a hot saturday and it could not have been better! Compared to the many overly crowded Sardinian beaches, this was a nice surprise. It is a bit hard to reach, and there isn't much around, but it is a wonderfully hardly crowded beach, and parking is easily found for free. The beach is small - around 150 meters long and there is no sand but tiny tiny grey, white and black stones (possibly the same that used to be extracted in the mine). The sea is amazingly clean, and the colors are incredible. There is a kiosk at the beach if needed. I will definitely want to go there again!

We have visited the mines with extremely dedicated man, who was guided us in there. My Italian is rather weak, so I didn't get everything, but that man was explaining everything with such a passion, that we were discovering more and more and found it interesting. We didn't have a cash to buy anything (the trip was for free!), but we own big thanks for the people who still care about the mines and guiding us and showing that interesting place!
