La Feniglia is the southern strip of land connecting Monte Argentario to the mainland. It is a lovely nature reserve, about 6km long, consisting of marshy lagoon on one side, a sandy beach on the other and pine-covered sand dunes in the middle. Lovely for walking or cycling.
We hired bikes and cycled from one end to the other and back again. There are suitable tracks running along both sides of the strip and along the middle, so you have plenty of choice. It was a lovely cycle ride and we saw several deer and a tortoise, lots of bird and lizards, and only a couple of other people in the 3 hours that we were cycling. Wear mosquito repellant as the reserve is so near the lagoon – I got bitten twice on the face.
You can hire bikes at both ends of the strip - we hired ours from the Monte Argentario/Porto Ercole end. From the road that circumnavigates the island, follow the signs to Feniglia and park in a big car park/motor caravan park on the right. The bike hire place is on the left in the car park. It cost about E10 to hire a bike for a whole day.
If you exit the car park and turn right towards Feniglia, you will soon come across a turning on the left that takes you to the reserve (look out for a yellow signpost). If you don’t turn left here, the road takes will take you to the beach car parks and bars, if you prefer to just laze in the sun.
The beach runs along the entire south side of La Feniglia, so you have plenty of choice of where to go. It is sandy so good place for swimming.

This is six 6km of unspoiled beachfront in a national park. It is very well serviced and very well kept. There are virtually no interruptions once you are on this beach. No music, no hassle, the odd vendor and the sound of waves.
You can rent an umbrella or deck chairs, but also bring or create a small shelter fir the day.
The beach is accessible by walk or by bike from a carpark which has heated showers 1€ and costs about 6€ per day.
If you live nature and the sea and you want a place which is quiet and not overcrowded then this is for you.

This is the best beach in the world for children as it's sandy and shallow for some way out. The view out to sea is beautiful with the medieval castles above Porto Ercole in front of you. Behind is a pine forest and the beach sweeps around to Ansedonia 5 miles away. The facilities are excellent: 4 bars/restuarants with toilets and showers where you go in; deserted beach if you want to walk along or through the pine forest in June and September. In July and August at weekends there are a lot of people though. Parking facilities deserve 5 stars: we use shady Ciropark who lay on a very efficient little bus service included in the parking price (a few euros) to drop you off at the main entrance to the beach or by the pine forest where you can walk through with your dog to their bau beach. They have wifi for only 1 euro all summer long!

Really great if you have a bike and can go from one side to thr other. And stop at a beach in the middle, where it is less crowded.

It was such a nice surprise package for us. We rented bikes from Porto Ercole (Delores Rentals) and cycled through the national park - it was just gorgeous and lovely getting away from all the tourist. Love all the deer too. Will definitely do it again.

We decided to go to the beach nead Feniglia. It was a beautiful drive, nice old town which was very clean. According to some of the advice we found on Tripadvisor it is more advisable to park your car at the Pineta parking area. This is about 100 meters from the Ciro parking area and is closer to the beach (Pineta that is). We put in the "Ciro parking area as it is on most navigation systems. Once there follow the signs which say "Mare".
Once on the beach, if you have dogs like us you should stick to the left side of the beach. Although the dogs are suppose to be on the leash, most Italians have their dogs off the leash. Nevertheless a great environment for Rufus to make new friends-so long as he behaves.
The waves are small ans the beach is covered in wood debris. Not my idea of pristine but nevertheless Italy has it's charms.

La Feniglia is a strip of land connecting Monte Argentario to the mainland. It is a lovely nature reserve with pine-covered dunes and with a sandy beach on the Mediterranean. You can hire bikes at either end at a very reasonable price. We were staying in Porto Ercole, so we rented from the Monte Argentario/Porto Ercole end. I’d recommend swimming in the middle beach as we found it to be least crowded. A wonderful mix of biking, nature, scenery, and swimming in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.

There might be parts of the beach that are private, but the bit we were at was a large and peaceful pretty public beach. Not many people around so a real nice chilled end to the holiday. The sea was a bit choppy but enjoyable. A lovely place to while away the day with a picnic and a beer. Car park was about 10 minutes or so away

We spent the day here there are several beaches here free public beaches which are slightly awkward to get to and have not got any facilities but have less visitors , or the organised beaches which have everything - sun beds with shades ( 12 euros for 2) restaurants and fantastic free facilities for children including swings and slides at the waters edge the water is very clean and is shallow for quite a long way out again ideal for children . There are lifeguards on duty as well as beach attendants. We parked on a parrelel road for free and walked a very short way down a sandy path to the beach although I understand there is a car park near the beach .All in all a lovely day at the beach
