Our "trip of a lifetime" to France and Italy was topped off with two days spent with Alessandra and Leonardo of "Discovering Umbria". They quickly immersed us into the Umbrian lifestyle! We felt at home with this friendly and easy-going brother and sister team! The pasta making class, in their country home, is still being talked about by my husband, the non-cook!
A full day of olive oil tasting, meeting the Ronci family and visiting the Romenelli family winery also included driving through spectacular countryside, with an opportunity to meet warm, multi-generation run Umbrian business women and men. We were served locally grown and prepared foods during our tour and returned to our villa with a real sense of Umbria! Thank you Alessandra and Leonardo for welcoming us into your lives...if only for two days! Molte Grazie! Diane C.
P.S. We found our "never-used" pasta machine and now have the confidence and know-how to use it!!

We learnt to make pasta in the sun-room of the family farmhouse. Lorenzo is passionate about food, about cooking and about his history. He happily shared so much with us and we loved the afternoon we spent learning to make pasta.
You make pasta, you eat pasta, you love pasta!
Fantastic activity for adults and children alike.

Alessandra arranged a wonderful pasta making class for us at a farm about half an hour north of Todi. We made 4 different types of pasta and were treated to terrific local lore about the traditions and processes while having a very hands on experience. We then enjoyed a wonderful meal with Alessandra, her terrific brother Leonardo and our teacher, "Mama" who regaled us with her stories of former students who have become lifelong friends. We enjoyed eating the pasta we made and sipping wonderful local wines. Alessandra is a true pro. Very responsive and helpful and she and
Leonardo are obviously proud of their Umbrian heritage.

Wanting a better understanding of the area and its produce, we booked an olive oil tour with Discovering Umbria. Alessandra picked us up at the castello where we were staying near Todi, arriving 10 minutes early to ensure we were not kept waiting. Alessandra was a well educated woman, very knowledgable about the history of the area even about the history of our castello. As she drove us from Izzalini on the backroads past Todi and on to the olive orchard near Bevagna, she told us about the history of the area as well as about the wines and olive oils. She answered our many questions and we were grateful to be driven around admiring the views, on roads we would likely not have found on our own. The route taken by Alessandra afforded different views of Todi from what we had previously seen and took us past vineyards of the wines we had been tasting in local restaurants. Alessandra told an amusing anecdote about a village as we were passing through it and gave recommendations as to where to visit during our stay in Umbria.
The olive orchard was situated on a ridge overlooking 2 valleys. It had an old section with trees which were centuries old. Standing on the veranda of the modern building which houses the tasting room as well as the press and storage areas, you could see Assisi in the distance across the valley. Simona, a member of the family owning Ronci, took us on the tour of the orchard with Alessandra translating for us. We learned about the various factors which influence the production of olives and about the machinery required for the pressing them. Afterwards, we were seated to sample the different olive oils produced by Ronci with bread and vegetables prepared by Simona (plus wine of course). After the tasting (which amounted to lunch), we left through an area where there were various olive oil products for purchase (from skin products to the oil itself) but there was little in the way of pressure to buy them. We purchased some olive oil to bring home in tins versus bottles to better protect it in our suitcases.
After Alessandra dropped us off, we reflected on what good value we thought the outing had been. We had had a lovely drive through the countryside and had wandered through a very pretty orchard. We appreciated the individual attention of the private tour and the peacefulness of the quiet family orchard. (Note: the olive press was not running when we were there.) Alessandra had been very patient with us and had given us a wealth of information. We now know what to look for in a high quality olive oil and will never eat olive oil in same way to which we were accustomed back home.

Thank you so much for your kind review! I'm so happy that you liked the whole experience. Thanks for the detailed description on my itinerary. I'm sure it would be very helpful for the next visitors to choose us for an extra virgin olive oil tour. I hope to see you again in our Umbria.
All the best,
Alessandra

A group of 6 couples spent 2 wonderful days with Leonardo and Alessandra doing both their tour of Ronci Olive Oil and a family run winery plus their pasta making class at their family home. Both of these activities were the most memorable ones we experienced during our week long stay in Umbria. This brother and sister team are the best! Our pasta class was so much fun, especially for the husbands in our group and such a great learning experience for pasta lovers. Both Alessandra and Leonardo are extremely personal and their knowledge is exceptional. I can think of no other way to better immurse yourself into Umbria. I highly recommend Discovering Umbria to get to know this beautiful provence. I have only been home for a week and have prepared one of the sauces I learned to make with the help of Alessandra. It was a wonderful hit with my guests!

Had four days with Alessandra & Leonardo. The Roccafiore wine tasting along with locally made cold cuts & olive oil was fantastic. The trip to Carsulae was very interesting augmented with Leonardos extensive knowledge. Driving through the stunning countryside from Todi we also went to the ceramic factory & another winery/olive oil factory where unfortunately their whole range of organic olive oil was unavailable due to bad weather conditions. On reflection we thought these last two visits could have been coupled into one day making it a 3 day event. The days are not long 3-4 hours so your not drained by the experience. Hard not to like Umbria & these two help make the visit even better. Recommended.

The wine tasting and tour provided by Alessandra was lovely. A private tour for our small group in a local setting allowed us to experience Umbria in an authentic manner. We all fell in love with Todi and Umbria and this tour celebrated our appreciation for the region and its people. Thank you!

What a fun way to spend an afternoon! Alessandra arranged for our party to visit a local vineyard and do a wine tasting and it was great! She is extremely knowledgeable and went out of her way to ensure we learned something and had fun doing it. Would definitely recommend a tour with her. Thank you Alessandra!

Alessandra provided an enjoyable tour of some of the wine and oil production area of Umbria. She chose a most welcoming vineyard for us to visit where we were able to sample their wonderful wines and olive oils paired with excellent foods. The family shared their vision and agricultural goals, leaving us with an appreciation of their products and an understanding of the biologic movement. Alessandra is an exceptionally engaged and knowledgeable guide who went out of her way to provide us with a valuable experience.

Hello Dear Alessandra, my husband and I want to visit Umbria for oil tasting. Can you give information about your tour? As I see Umbria is a big region, I especially want to see Perugio and Spello. Do you organize tours around here? Another question we want to stay in Spello, do you reccomend there for staying? Thanks,
Alessandra Mallozzi

Hi JCCC,
Are their ride hailing apps like Lyft or Uber that work in Todi?
Thanks,

Hello, no, I'm sorry. As far as I know there aren't these kind of services here. Todi and Umbria are beautiful but rural areas and services easily availble in big towns are quite unknown here. For any information on public transportation, taxi, ect, the best way is asking your hotel concierge or a tourist office in Umbria.
Best regards,
Alessandra
