This beautiful monestry is open to the public and well worth a visit. Another bonus about this place is it is at the bottom of the hill so you don’t need to climb miles like the castle which is also worth it by the way.

This is a Centre for culture and arts and it is an oasis of calm in the town. Dive of the tourist packed streets into the Gardens of this place and you will have peace and quiet along with beautiful views and photo opportunities

The monastery is located somewhat far from the traditional hiking trails, so it is relatively uncrowded and you can admire the baroque buildings of the monastery and a small monastery courtyard. Nice quiet place.

The absolutely massive monastery complex hidden just across the street from the notorious castle has been only recently costly refurbished into its former glory and only since past winter offers educational exhibitions, everything is brand new and as the place has not made it into mainstream tourguides yet, very few people come here, while the castle just across the street is packed by buses worth of tourists. The visit is a little pricey for my taste, also consists of 4 separate exhibitions for which you have to buy separate tickets for whatever reason, which causes some confusion at times. Personally I think you can skip the "local crafts" exhibition which is basically an interactive, but pretty dull way to touch and smell various local products and read about how candles or books were done - might be entertaining if you have kids as it is very physicall, but we felt it was a little basic and childish for the money. The main deal are the two convents/monasteries with their separate exhibitions. We noticed most texts arent translated into english and foreign tourists only get some extract of it all on a single sheet of paper - very surprising this is a brand new enterprise in a city which lives from foreign tours. Art pieces here are very nice and also only recently renovated, which gives you an unique chance to see bold, sharp colors and perfect statues how their makers intended them originally. The monastery also runs a dedicated little cafe which bakes quite interesting pastry according to authentic local recipes daily.

I would not spend money visiting this monastery again. There was a small art exhibit and a few hallways that were open, but most of the buildings were not available to see. The displays had to do not with the history of the monastery or what life was like there, but rather how it had been restored. Also, make sure you leave time before closing to see it. The site was supposed to close at 5pm and by 4:40 the docents were shooing me out so they could lock up on time and go home.

The things and stories on display are really great, yet the text is in Czech only and one has to read English or German version in a small print, which - given the light conditions - isn't that easy.

Before you go, read about the history of this monastery and the story of St Francis. Then view the informative photo montage (the ticket office will tell you where to find this free display) describing the restoration of this site, with plenty of English translation. It was an incredible effort. Now you're ready to buy a ticket for a self-guided tour of the inside of the monastery and its church. Don't expect a lot of English translation here; that's why you read about the place in advance. Instead look at the layers of frescoes, the professionally restored paintings, the art treasures which originated here or are on loan. I especially like the little chapel of the Black Madonna. After your tour you might wish to take coffee one of the quiet courtyards, or you might stroll through the garden. Be sure to check the schedule of events, because sometimes there's a concert in another courtyard.

If you are in this beautiful place go and see this place. You'll be glad you did. In fact, the town is not huge and you can visit everywhere on foot.

Very peaceful garden with large vegetable and flower patches, herb garden, fruit trees, and grapevines, with benches and views of St Vitus and the Castle tower.

It was restored completely just two years ago. It is beutifully done, you can admire, the gothic ceilings, the beautiful frescos, in the church the barock altars.
This was a Monestry and Cloister together - at the beginning 12 monks and 12 nonns were in the complex.

The renovated Minorite Monastery is well worth a visit. The ticket I got had two parts ... the monastery itself (and church) and an adjacent location with items from the collection and about the renovations. Paintings and statuary and frescoes are gorgeous, and nicely restored. Be aware of strict no photography policy in most of the facility. Gardens are pleasant, too, and free to enter.
