It definitely worths a visit. Do not miss the tower (40 crowns to pay and you also visit the jewelry collection - explained only in Czech tough), where you can benefit from a great view of the city (two sides). It takes only a few minutes, so if you can avoid the hour.15, hour.30 and hour.45, because you will be very close to the bell.

Imposing cathedral set on a small hill in the city. Free to get in. There is a small charge to go up the tower and see the treasury. Be aware that the tower is very dark inside and has the tiniest outdoor space. Only room for two people so would be frustrating if it were busy.

Cathedral is a monumental building in the city center and the real city landmark. There are three visiting areas. The crypt, towers & treasury, and finally the main part of the church. Good for visit. Cathedral is in the city center, which is nicely renovated and provides you with the spirit of the old town. Enjoy.

Beautiful place with more beautiful view.
I have fear of heights so I didn’t go up to the tower but my husband did and he said even he got scared of the height and the bell just started to rang which was not loud for me but it was for him at the top. 😂
So if you want to see something beautiful, come and see this.

An interesting church that dominates the views in the south west of the city centre. The exterior is Neo-Gothic, but the interior is mostly Baroque. There's certainly some like side chapels with lovely Baroque art and the stained glass are nice. Like most gothic cathedrals, the exterior is richly decorated with sculptures of saints. It's worth visiting if you have the time.

The cathedral itself, St. Peter and Paul, also known as Petrov was built during the 14th and 15th centuries. It is located on the top of the hill, known as Petrov, on the presumed site of the former Brno castle. After the castle`s demise the free-standing Romanesque basilica was rebuilt as a Gothic cathedral in the 13th century and converted to the Baroque style in the 18th century. Its current neo-Gothic form dates from the turn of this century. Since 1777 the cathedral has been the seat of the Brno bishopric. The original church crypt from the 12th century is now accessible to visitors.

Its bells ring noon at 11am!! You can purchase a ticket for about 50kc or so, to climb all the way up the steeples!!! (not a good idea to climb up at 11am though!lol) This isn't for the faint hearted!! I felt quite sick going up, but the view was outstanding and was well worth it!!! The ticket usually also includes a visit to the jewels on your way down (sometimes they have an additional fee of something like 25kc during busy seasons).

Like I said, the cathedral is situated on a big hill, so you cant miss it!! it watches you wherever you go!!
This cathedral is amazing, it stands out so much in comparison to the industrial buildings surrounding it!! Its so striking and beautiful, it cant be missed if you're visiting Brno!

There are a couple of way to get to the cathedral, either by one of the side streets off masarykova ulice(street) and save yourself the many many steps, as opposed to if you went up from nove sady. It is still uphill either way, so good shoes are required, as there are also cobbled streets surrounding it! We usually go up by masarykova and come down to steps!! The view from the top is outstanding, and you can see so far!! Especially from the steeples!!

A nice time to go is just before sunset, because you can see it all of Brno in daylight, and then at night too!!

Mass times are 7.30am, and 9.00am, in czech. and 10.00am in latin, once every other sunday. (They do change the times depending on the season). The latin mass takes place in a little side chapel. which isnt open to visit, but only for mass.
The main cathedral is where the czech mass happens. There is also a small eucharist adoration chapel, which is beautiful and is nice for a couple of moments of prayer.

Theres a couple of nice cafes near by (on the masarykova ulice side of the church,) theres a little street on the way to silingrovo namesti so you might want to have a drink and a pancake going up or down!! A nice cafe in particular is opposite to the church shop. But excuse their black labrador, he likes to come and see what your drinking!!lol

Oh and dont forget your camera!!

Hope this helped!

Beautiful gothic architecture, visible from all over the city. The interior is somehow on a different key but still very interesting, with some beautiful stain glasses and very interesting pieces of furniture.

1. Having occupied the hilltop at the southern corner of Brno and with both towers open to the public (requires ticket), the cathedral offers a magnificent view to the city (only the Spilberk Castle’s watchtower offers a more comprehensive outlook in this respect, having occupied another hill more overlooking to the whole city).

2. The church dates back to the 11th century but the main building and artistic elements are developed much later. The interior is built by the 18th-century Baroque architect, M Grimm.

3. Having finished the main halls, you’ll realize you can’t find the entrance to the towers. For to reach that entrance you’ll have to brace the snow again – enter through a side-gate outside. Ticket office to both the towers and treasury to be found mid-way as you walk up the stairs.

4. It is not uncommon for cathedrals to showcase their treasury. And it is even more strategic to include it as part of your tower ticket.

5. As you go up the flights of stairs, exhibition boards will tell you how the church comes into its being, how the bells are to be used three times a day to indicate the prayer times, the shortening of the southern tower to make the two equally attractive, and so on.

6. And then the same boards appear again and again repeating themselves on the top decks. So that you’ll not be excused to miss a single detail.

7. After you’ve visited one of the towers, go through the door to reach the opposite side. The corridor can be in complete darkness if the doors on both sides are closed.

8. On both sides of the corridor there is a trick step to punish the hasty and those with Vitamin-A Deficiency. ‘Be careful’.

The cathedral is visible from each point of the city. It is located at the hill but very easy to climb, even for elder people.
