About
The Museum at the Art Center Philippopolis hosts a collection that traces individual authors’ styles, trends and achievements of Bulgarian art from end of the 19th century to present day. The Museum art pieces witness the history of the Bulgarian people after the Liberation from Ottoman dominance to modern times, embodying legends, stories, artists’ fortunes, and events. An enchanting experience for visitors from all over the globe. Connoisseurs of Bulgarian art before the WWII will recognize exemplary works by Vladimir Dimitrov – The Master, Nenko Balkanski, Tzanko Lavrenov, Nikola Tanev, Sirak Skitnik, and many others. Nostalgia collectors are amazed to see the way painters, living in communist Bulgaria, escaped from the "socialist realism" trap and managed to express their vivid talent by following the post-modern Western trends.

We stayed right next door to this great little gallery during our trip to Plovdiv. Some of the art is for sale, some of it is museum quality work that is on permanent display. The staff was very nice and the time you'll spend here is well worth the small price to pay to view the art.

This museum is housed inside an authentic traditional manor house. When you enter it you can imeddiately feel the history of this place. The collection is nice with many bulgarian artists. You can also buy many paintings.

We found Philippopolis to be a nicely restored Roman era area of Plovdiv. It borders old Town Plovdiv and a main, pedestrian town center, shopping promenade. The restorers did a very good job of blending in Philippopolis with both. We only wished that it wouldn't have been quite so hot during our visit.

I visited the gallery after a nice lunch in the garden of restaurant Philipoppolis. The house is very beautiful with plenty of paintings by local artists. Both contemporary and old masterpieces. A must-see for everyone who enjoy arts as much as I do!

I first saw the Stadium in the 80s, during communism, when it it was lined with tacky shops. My last visit was a wonderful surprise, as it is now artfully reconstructed with both a modern museum showing films of its development and a smart cafe overlooking the Roman seating. Cool in the heat of summer, this is a great place for kids to climb and adults to have a meal or a drink while watching them! Great place to relax as well as imagine the past.

I was going to the archeology museum and saw this place from the street you can see the part of the stadium that has been Uncovered but most is still buried under the restaurant and shops I walked down some stairs to the entrance and walked under the arch into what was the far exit it was like being in one of those film you felt all eyes were on you I walked up some steps and sat on the marble seats as the people would have done 2 thousand years ago. It felt great and it's free there is even a lift down to the entrance highly recommend.

You do not need to go, you will find it in your way. We did not attend the film. There are some more rests in the basement of a department store.

plovdiv is a very clean, busy cosmopolitan city. it has its own airport with twice weekly flights from london stansted with ryanair. plovdiv is one of the oldest recorded cities in the world with heaps of history. it is positioned perfectly for those who wish to ski in the winter and is not far from sofia the capital of bulgaria. there is a big italian influence here with lots of delicious restaurants and wonderful shopping. it is really cheap for both and very good quality. for those who like a little drink it is a wine lovers paradise. you can purchase wines from all over the world at excellent prices. bulgarian wine in its self is indeed well worth sampling and at such low prices what more could you ask. the local beer is very good and there is also a national drink, rakia, for those brave enough to try it. well worth a look is plovdiv and if you are not looking for the beach on your doorstep you will be guarranteed a very warm welcome and a very enjoyable holiday.

This Art Gallery located in the old town of Plovdiv, being private, is not included in the combined museum ticket. The entrance fee is 5 BGN. It is located in one of the beautiful traditional houses in the Bulgarian National Revival style of the 19th century, which did bloom strongly in Plovdiv.
Besides the architecture of the house itself one can now admire a lot of paintings, mainly by Bulgarian artists.
