Impressive torii, and a nice sacred three-trunked cryptomeria tree
zář 2019
The old wooden torii gate here is impressive, and like other spots in Togakushi there are some very nice imposing cryptomeria (Japanese cedar) trees, including a three-trunked holy tree behind the torii

Tough climb!
kvě 2019 • Pár
We took the Highland shuttle bus from Nagano, which
took about one hour. The bus is fine for the short ride
to Zenkoji temple, but is very uncomfortable for a one
hour trip. We visited the Hinomikosha and Hokosha
shrines first and then came to the precipitous stone
staircase leading to the Chusa shrine.
I counted 191 steps and arrived at the summit rather
exhausted - why do they always build shrines and
temples so high up? It is a beautiful spot, surrounded
by very tall pine trees, but I felt the hard climb was not
fully rewarded; the shrine is pleasant but nothing really
special.
After I started the climb, my wife discovered a winding
path which also leads to the shrine, and this proved a
much easier descent route.
The bus stop and a couple of restaurants are near the
bottom of the steps, so it is possible to relax with a
large beer to recover from the mountaineering!

Power spot!, My favorite shrine in Nagano prefecture
led 2019 • Rodina
We can feel a kind of power in this shrine area.
So, it’s enough to say one of the power spots in Japan.
In Every New Years holiday, I pray here and draw a fortune-telling slip.
This is my annual routine.
Winter scenery of this shrine is my best.
You can feel atmosphere of which the Mountaineering ascetics practice.
There is a manner of praying at shrine.
When you pray, bow twice, clap twice, then bow once more.
Almost Japanese throw a coin into the offering box for an offering to the Kami(God)
before pray
If you want to know more, please google “how to pray at japanese shrine”.
Please remember these, when you visit Japanese shrine.
Around this shrine, you can have soba noodle, a typical Japanese food.
Uzuraya, which is one of soba restaurants and in front of this shrine, is my recommendation.
Please google “uzuraya togakushi”.
At Uzuraya, you can have Togakushi soba, a special soba noodle in the Togakushi area.

Chusha, one of the total 5 "Togakushi" shrines
čvc 2018 • Jednotlivci
Chusha looks like a main shrine among total 5 "Togakushi" shrines, and easy access near the bus stop and parking lots. Beautiful, quiet settings, steep stairs in front but there is another slope on the side, too. Buckwheat soba noodle restaurants are nearby, too. Maybe not too fancy with shops and stalls, etc., but you could imagine that this was a scene of ancient myth. Amazing.

A normal shrine
čvc 2018 • Rodina
There were steps to reach the shrine but it was a short walk from the bus stop. I felt that shrine itself was the same as other shrines. One difference was there was a huge pine tree right in front of the shrine.

Beautiful! Worth another visit!

Sadly, the weather was bad and I couldn’t walk all the way to the main shrine. Nevertheless, the scenery is very beautiful and the walk was very pleasant.

The shrine stands out, yet feels like a part of the natural surroundings
pro 2017 • Jednotlivci
It's an amazing credit to the Japanese architects, craftsmen, and architects of the time, who were able to develop and build the shrine and maintain its connection to the natural surroundings. If it interests you about how to get here by bus, you can refer to my review of the Hoko-sha (I don't think I can paste the info here due to self-plagiarism).
I trekked up to the shrine from the Hoko-sha. A short distance from the entrance to the shrine there's a toilet (you can take a whizz here), and also a very HUGE old tree (photo-op). Further up, there's another short flight of stairs up to the Chu-sha, the architecture of which bears a strong resemblance to the Hoko-sha and Hinomiko-sha.
Much like the Hoko-sha, the Chu-sha blends well with the surrounding nature. Even though it's merely about 100m from the road and modern amenities, you will get a sense that you're far from modern society with the peace and serenity of the shrine's environment seemingly transporting you kilometers away from modernity.
If you want to walk up from the Hoko-sha, it's going to take about 45 minutes of mostly off-road uphill trekking, and nearing the end will be about a 10 minute walk past a cemetery and up a steep, winding road toward the Chu-sha. Dress comfy for the weather and modestly as well as this is part of a visit to a religious site.

Very peaceful and beautiful
lis 2017 • Rodina
We were heading over the mountains by the back roads and took a small detour to come here.
It is a beautiful shrine and very peaceful.
There are quite a few steep stairs or a longer less steep path.
Very peaceful.
If you are driving I highly recommend the back road over mountain route out to the coats. So very beautiful. It's like driving in a Bob Ross painting.

Beautiful spot in the mountain
říj 2017 • Pár
We decided to take the trail from Okusha shrine to chusha shrine then catch the bus back down to Nagano. The trail is beautiful at this time of year with all the autumn colour and once you arrive at Chusha i think the colours make it even more spectacular. Just a beautiful spot in the world.

Yet another one
srp 2017 • Pár
Believe me the view of the Japanese alps from near the shrine is a better religious experience than yet another shrine.
