- epembertonNorth Yorkshire, United Kingdom214 contributionsNice little trailAn interesting trail with good information boards spread throughout. Path well maintained and easy to follow, good views towards the mountains. Arrived at 10am and struggled to park due to all the motor homes who’d parked up over night and not left yet!Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 26, 2023
- Anuj_MithaniMumbai, India3,924 contributionsInteresting hike for geology and viewsThis is an interesting site where the exposed multi-layered rock in the mountainside tells the story of continents crashing together millions of years ago (the Moine Thrust). The trail starts at the hexagonal visitor centre, and is well marked. It’s a well-maintained path, slightly steep and tricky in parts but well worth a visit for the geology and views.Visited May 2023Written June 13, 2023
- Acg2356Edinburgh, United Kingdom7 contributionsGood, hour long walk with great viewsNice walk with cool rock structures and great views. The paths are stable and well marked, although it’s mostly made up of rocks/loose stones with steep steps up, which is hard if you have little legs! I recommend wearing sturdy walking shoes or boots as it’s quite easy to go over an ankle! Overall, a really nice, short but beautiful walk around the crags.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 7, 2023
- LovelydazeScotland, United Kingdom27 contributionsAmazing views and lots to learnHad a walk up here today and were amazed by the views. Lots of info about the area on the way up, though a few displays are currently missing as they’re being repaired. Definitely worth doing the longer loop - and good idea to wear walking footwear and take plenty of smidge. Be aware that the many stone/rock steps are generally very big/high which is fine for the taller among us but makes it a bit tougher on legs/knees for those of below average height! Easy parking and handy loos.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 7, 2023

This is a free stop directly off the NC500 that has no operating hours. It offers exhibits pertaining to a geological curiosity where the older rocks are higher than the newer rocks on this ridge. It is an interesting thing to learn about and worth the walk. The full loop provides nice views of the area. However, if you have been hiking elsewhere in the NC500, these views are not must see ones. If you haven't been hiking, the loop will give you views that are easily accessible. I recommend just doing the short hike to learn about the geology of the area. You should only do the full loop if you fall into the category I just outlined.

We visited on a beautiful day. The information boards were so informative but unfortunately because of covid the interactive display wasn't operating. We scrambled up the first part of the trail....just don't look down! The rock sculptures were brilliant and the views absolutely stunning. We spent about 2 hours here. Clean, safe toilet facilities in the car park. Would absolutely recommend for older children and fairly fit adults. Wear stout shoes and a jacket.

Been meaning to walk this route, as I only live just down the road, but had to wait for all the tourists to disappear before I attempted it.
We had a lovely typically sunny November day, with clear skies and far reaching views.
Sadly some of the display in the wee hut had been vandalised by tourists, which was rather sad, and a bit pointless.
The walk was interesting, hard to climb in some places, but when you get to the top, the views are worth the climb.
Coming back down we had the pleasure of a lovely waterfall and an odd rainbow.
Toilets were open too which was a bonus. Carpark empty when we went up. Plent of room to park.

We took the longest circuit up to the top and it was a good walk but only about 30 minutes. On the way down there were deer on the path that we got to within 10m of. The displays are very good and informative but it is a shame that the electronic displays were located in an area open to the elements so were therefore no longer functional - not very sensible in the Scottish climate!

Hi how long do you suggest we give time to see Knockan

We would say two hours for the walk so that you have plenty of time to enjoy the views, plus perhaps another half hour if you are interested in the geological information that is available as well.

Hello - Wondering on how to get here from the cruise ship docks. Are there taxis to be had at quayside or perhaps local guides who would pick up and escort a small group of 4? August 11 arrival.
Thanks!

Hi. Not sure if any organised trips. Nearest ferry port is Ullapool, and Knockan Craggs is 14 miles away. I'm sure you could get a six seater taxi from Ullapool quite easily
