...but a mosquito plague has closed the interior to visitors! These pesky little flybugs were hardly a nuisance elsehere.

Hard to miss this church as it sits in the middle of the village and can be see from afar. For us, the beauty was in its simplicity and feeling that it would make people feel closer to God without everything being gilded. One euro, two candles, grateful for our friends and family.

This is a small church worth a quick look. Not so old, maybe 18th century but the pediment is decorated with a panel of tiles and headed by a Cross of the Order of ChristThe main altar, made up of gilt, shows two wooden sculptures representing St. Augustine and St. Monica. Take time to reflect on the beauty of this parish church which is still in use today.

Very small- not the huge size of the Spanish & Italian cathedrals. But very lovely. Worth the visit. Just a few steps up, not difficult to get to.

Go at sunset. Truly stunning. We were with a large tour group and had a great guide. We learned lots about the history and got some really great photographs.

During our stay, went to the church to see it. A very typical one for the time period. It has a lot of history in the area. Was able to attend mass while we where there.

The Church of Our Lady of the Lagoon is part of your visit to Monsaraz. The village is a delight, this church has sustained the residents for centuries.

The church is not fancy compared to most European places of worship. In fact the structure is suffering from deferred maintenance in a severe way (the doors).

There is a coffin in the church; my guess is that it’s empty as it doesn’t seem to be on display. The attendant in the church was in the phone the whole time during our visit so I was unable to inquire Fuller.

The church is in the middle of the village next to the Museu do Fresco. Also across from the public WC. You literally can’t miss it.

We dropped into Church if Our Lady of the Lagoon whilst strolling through the delightful cobblestone streets of Monsaraz. The inside of the building is beautiful & definitely worth visiting just to take a look inside.

This is the local church of the village. It is not so large, but there are beautiful tall pillars inside made from different colored marbles or sandstone.

It is pretty from the outside with its location in the middle of this amazing town. However, the interior is rather dark and somewhat dissapointing.
