    Unique place to visit
Excellent place to explore - the shop, museum and cafe. The shop offers many unique designs of kitchenware; the musuem part gives a chronogical display of how the company has grown and developed and thd cafe offers delicious breakfasts, lunches and snacks freshly prepared. Plenty of parking spaces available in the beautiful location, surrounded by trees, just on the outskirts of Hathersage. Well worth a visit.

    Lovely morning out
We visited this attraction and was pleasantly surprised. The design shop was just gorgeous- so interesting, I wanted to buy most things they were such beautiful items. Good signage and explanations. David Mellor along with his son even designed traffic lights, post boxes, bollards, benches etc. fantastic designs. All staff were friendly and helpful. We had tea and cake in the café - lovely, staff again were friendly and helpful. All tables clean and cleared promptly. Highly recommended

    Something unique… a cutlery museum/factory!
Spotted this on a brown sign advertised as ‘cutlery museum’ and knew I had to pay it a visit. There’s more on display than just cutlery - though there is a knife based on a series of erotic photographs worth a look at. The actual ‘museum’ is very small but interesting, and they offer factory tours at 3pm on weekends which we didn’t do due to the timings but would have liked to. Don’t miss the traffic lights and bus stop outside which I discovered were actually designed by Mellor in his quest to make post-war Britain more design effective. Some interesting bits and pieces to read. Cafe served delicious food (try the soup!) although seating is very limited. There was also a 2 hour limit on the car park which isn’t a lot if you’re doing a tour and eating. The shop was nice but very expensive.

We were looking for another activity to end our day so we decided to visit this place after seeing a road sign for a museum. This little (free) design museum had very interesting exhibits (mostly about cutlery) and they even offered a tour of their factory on the weekends which we missed by an hour. The shop is also worth a visit although many of their items are not really affortable.

We walked by on Friday morning and said to ourselves we would pop and have a quick look if time allowed. So, so pleased we did. An absolutely fantastic experience. As a previous reviewer quoted, "Genious" designer. Whilst I fully appreciate the word is often overused, not on this occasion. Firstly, be aware of the entrance. It is easily missed. On entry, you will find a gorgeous tranquil setting that is simply breathtaking. Every aspect from the roads, the buildings, the trees and the plants have been so wonderfully thought through. A lovely friendly, smiley welcome and just encouraged to enjoy the surroundings. The shop/museum is great. Immaculately clean and very well set out which allows you to appreciate the designer's craft and expertise. An absolute Gem

As owners of David Mellor cutlery , glass wear and other Kitchen items from their shop, we we were interested to see the museum. Interesting to see the history of the designs, and the history and design of the ‘cutlery factory’. Loved the cafe, it has indoor seating and also a peaceful outdoor space for us and the dog.

This is an excellent way to spend an hour or so. The designs are exquisite and really open your eyes to what is available.
There are exhibits of some of David Mellor designs such as the telephone box, traffic lights and post box but most of my attention is always on the wooden bowls, cutlery and stone ware.
We always leave with something new for the kitchen.

Arrived Sat lunchtime and were lucky to get a seat in the Cafe as it was full.
Ordered Coffee and Sandwiches (Bacon Brie and Cranberry + Chicken with Cranberry sauce)
Very generous portions and superb
We then had a good look around the Main shop, beautiful products but seem almost too good to use, particularly the glassware.
We had to leave before the Tour, but have been told it is well worthwhile

We visited The David Mellor shop and restaurant twice between Christmas and New year. It is indeed a very nice cook shop, selling high end kitchenailia.
We decided to return a couple of days later to purchase some sale items, and took breakfast in the restaurant.

Nice that a coffee shop seats you and comes to take your order, but the staff were not friendly, lacking in smiles and everything seemed just a little too much trouble. We ordered bacon sandwiches, and asked if we could have an egg inside too.
After a " I don't think so"... and a huff and a puff...and our request to ask the kitchen if possible...the answer came back as a yes.
The bacon sandwiched were indeed delicious, with high quality bacon and nice fresh sliced bread ( although very very expensive at almost £6)... but the coffee was not good, and only semi skimmed milk on offer, which is always a let down.
The childs bacon sandwich was exactly the same size and half the price.
We asked for the bill which was approx £22 and sent my 11 year old to the till with £30 in cash to pay. She returned with a few coins change.....and on my trip to the till to complain about the change...the £5 note was produced far too quickly without argument for my liking, and we were all under the impression they had purposely short changed my child. Large accusation to make, but all attitudes at the till from the staff pointed to this.
The shop staff were no more friendly....one receives a nice card with receipt clipped inside, but the lack of friendly smiles and customer care is not great for such a high end shop.
We will not be returning again. There are a few very nice friendly coffee shops/cafes in Hathersage that produce equally good bacon sandwiches and delicious coffee to use instead.
