- Sarah W4 contributionsGardens great, cafe not so good nowBeen on a number of occasions . Gardens delightful and dogs on lead welcome. However we always combine this with a trip to the Priory Maze cafe, but was very disappointed with the restricted menu now available so unfortunately had to find an alternative lunch time venue.Visited May 2023Written May 18, 2023
- Kirsty S9 contributionsDisappointedDisappointed, not sure what’s happened. Been coming here for ages but appears to of changed. Prices very expensive, coffee average and small cups . £3.50 for a small cheese scone. Will be finding an alternative place to stop on our walk.Visited May 2023Traveled with friendsWritten May 20, 2023
- EM12335 contributionsLovely!Lovely well kept gardens with lots of different areas to explore. Dog friendly. The maze was a bit of fun, took us longer to get out than we expected! Looked like some nice areas for younger children - play areas and pond dipping station. We also walked to the Priory ruins which are close by. Lunch in the cafe was great, lots of choice and friendly service.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 9, 2023
- Mark R16 contributionsA fantastic afternoon out for all the familyA fantastic afternoon out. Make sure you go to the loo before entering the maze though! Beautiful gardens and a lovely teashop too. Great little playpark for the children and a good idea to have pond dipping for the children too.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 13, 2023
- Kipling32Croxley Green, United Kingdom50 contributionsA beautiful place to visitLovely couple of hours spent here on a glorious warm sunny day. Came here with our 2 children, 11 & 9 & our dog. Dogs must be kept on a lead. Maze was good fun, didn’t take long to find our way out but a couple of dead ends at the beginning. Our 9 year old daughter led the way. At the exit you are surrounded by the most beautiful idyllic gardens. Different routes to walk, a play park, picnic tables & benches to sit on & take in the beautiful flowers & immaculate gardens. We had lovely walks around the aromatic garden, pine walk etc & then sat down and ate a picnic lunch in the sun. Really lovely start to the day, very peaceful. We were short of time but could have stayed longer had we more time. £22.00 for a family ticket of 4. Free car park, nice toilets, cafe on siteVisited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 16, 2023

We finished off by having a couple of cups of tea in the Garden which was very nice. Worth a visit if you are in the area.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 29, 2023

A seriously overpriced £6.50 a ticket! I was expecting a well maintained garden, full of exotic, wonderful and colourful plants with, perhaps, information about them should I wish to purchase that variety for my garden. Instead it was ok in places, interspersed with weeds and half dead plants. Twenty minutes and we had exhausted it, including the maze! As a keen, amateur Gardner, I was hoping to be inspired. Instead, I felt ripped off and annoyed. There wasn’t a single member of staff maintaining the grounds. The only thing that they are looking after is the cash till. Management take note...this is not good value at all and anyone who writes otherwise has got more money than sense! Save your money and walk around a park...it’s free!

We have visited the Priory Maze and Gardens several time over the years, mainly for the good cafe and enjoyed ourselves.
The service and food is reliable and the staff helpful friendly.
Yesterday we called in again at about 3.15pm in time to have a cup of tea and a slice of cake before their rather early closing time of 4pm. We can cope quite happily with the closing time but not that at 3.45 the vacuum cleaner came out and the toilets were cleaned and then closed while customers were still present.
I gather that the law on toilets for cafe customers is something of a grey area but would expect that, out of sheer courtesy, clearing operations and cleaning and closure of toilets should wait until customers have departed for the day.
It left us, this time, with the wrong feeling of the place. The 'Average' rating reflects this.

Despite some heavy rain and thunder we had a pleasant stroll around the gardens.
To be honest, I wouldn't pay any more than the current £6.50 entry fee. I just didn't get that "WOW" factor that I expected and that other gardens I've visited for a similar price have provided. We didn't feel that the gardens had been that well cared for and there was a mishmash of plants, which didn't really match the various garden names.
The maze was quite fun; kept us entertained for a while particularly as we got completely lost in it!
We headed over to the café for a hot drink and a snack before we left. We were asked by a staff member in the café if we had booked, but unfortunately we didn't realise we had to.
Thankfully a table had just become free and the staff member was efficient in wiping it down for us. The menu did seem quite expensive, but the food appeared to be of good quality. I felt the staff listened to my dietary requirements well and the staff we saw in both the café and gift shop were polite and friendly.
Overall, the Priory Maze and Gardens kept us occupied for a couple of hours, but not an attraction we would go rushing back to and not really one we feel we can recommend.

We had a nice lunch followed by coffee and cake, my coffee came out and the young girl spilt lots in the saucer and then proceeded to pass it to me, I politely advised her I did not want that coffee as it was all spilt etc. so she said she would change it, she came back with the same coffee with a serviette underneath the cup and looking a absolute mess my biscuit was floating in coffee. Such a shame as it was a lovely setting to enjoy a really nice coffee but it was an absolute mess.

Went in on Sunday for a coffee with my husband. Sat on the veranda where we were told they serve you. Eventually someone came over to take our order. After waiting twenty minutes, and see customers being served who had come in after us, we got up, cancelled our order. The lady behind the counter said they didn't realize we were still there. They were more interested in looking after tables that had ordered more. They weren't even very busy and had four members of staff.Won't be going back.

So glad we decided to visit. The gardens have a variety of themed zones. Lots to see , plenty of places to sit and admire the fabulous gardens. The maze is not as simple as you might think and is a challenge. The cafe does good food and the plants are well cared for in the sale centre. We really enjoyed it. Suitable for families with you g children too

The Priory Maze and Gardens are rather a hidden gem in Sheringham, probably because they are a few minutes’ walk outside the town and not particularly well signposted or advertised. They offer a pleasant alternative to the bustling high street for an hour or so, and can easily be part of a circular walk going across the common to the coast and back into town via the Beeston Bump. The garden is a real haven of tranquility for wildlife and plants, with a variety of short walks (Fern Walk, Pine Walk, etc), lots of quirky little features scattered around the place, a children’s play area, and of course the maze, which we found quite tricky to negotiate (at least there is a viewing platform near the centre so you can shout for help!!). The grounds also include a small gift shop and a café with delicious snacks and meals. Just outside the gardens are the ruins of the Beeston Regis Priory, which can be visited independently for no charge.

We walked to the Priory Maze and Gardens from our guest house near the sea front, via interesting residential streets and the atmospheric Priory Ruins.
The gardens are divided into different areas with a variety of themes, which allows for a wide range of planting. It was quiet and tranquil and a great way to spend a spare morning of your holiday. There is a busy cafe/restaurant where many people seemed to come for lunch, both inside and al fresco.
Worth a visit, especially if combined with the nearby Priory Ruins which can be seen from the Gardens.

Hi, are dogs welcome in the cafe and gardens?
Thanks

There was no problem with me taking my 2 dogs round the gardens. There was also shaded parking for leaving dogs in a vehicle for a short time because I don't think they were allowed inside the cafe. However, there was an outdoor cafe area and, going by my extensive travelling experience, mostly dogs are allowed in the outdoor cafe areas. I cannot understand why you were not allowed to take your dogs in. Perhaps email the gardens and ask about this.

Can I take a dog to Priory Maze
Chrissie L
Lincoln, UK85 contributions
Yes, no problem taking my 2 dogs in.
I called in the cafe at priory maze today on our last day of our holiday as a treat . we have been to the cafe many times and loved it there . having had a poor meal there last time we were a bit wary . but on ordering a jkt potato for my husband . and a cheese and tom baguette for me . the meals arrived . husbands was lovely good portions . mine had two small baguette slices. Not much filling chips . but no pot of coleslaw . this was stated on the menu as included . we know that as we always have ordered baguettes .
I called the waitress over to ask if they had stopped supplying coleslaw with baguettes now ?
She said no they usually do . went back to kitchen to ask . we were then told no they had run out of coleslaw and it would take fifteen mins to make some more . sorry !
As we had sat watching the chef using the griddle and reading text messages with his other hand . I didn't hold out much hope of getting any .
But we ate slowly . then my husband asked again is the coleslaw coming ?
Waitress asked in kitchen came back with a no they haven't done it yet .
I said well can we have a reduction on the bill then please ? As we aren't paying for what we haven't had . waitress then was seen trying to alter the bill on computer with assistance .
Another waitress came to clear plates and asked if all had been OK . I said no as we have had to argue about the coleslaw we didn't get . it's spoilt the meal now .
She said well we have taken a bit off your bill .
On paying the reduction was stated as 50p off . we then had to explain that what was actually stated on the menu hadn't been supplied which was bad .
And as my husband said had we been told part of the meal couldn't be supplied we might have ordered something else . but the worse thing was knowing the kitchen staff knew coleslaw was out at the time but still tried to give the meal to us as it was and hope we didn't notice or complain .
This really is the last time we will be visiting . the standards and portions have been cut drastically .we were regulars having a static caravan nearby . but unfortunately arguing to get the meal we paid for isn't fun . kitchen staff really don't seem bothered . the waitresses are pleasant enough . it's not their fault . so we didn't want to complain to them . but its really not good service and all we wanted was a complete meal as advertised . thanks for a lovely lunch ruined our day. .not much compensation either .
