About
Said to have been hurled by an angry God in response to violation of His Sabbath day, these three large stone circles are built close together and vary in size from 105 feet to 135 feet across.

These type of things blow my mind, not only because of the engineering involved way back when but also the myths and folklore surrounding them.
These are in a beautiful setting on Bodmin Moor. There is a free car park and they are just a short walk away. Wrap up warm though and stick on your wellies or walkie boots if you have them just to be safe, it is Cornwall after all.
The Hurlers can be incorporated with a visit to Cheeswring, the Mine Visitor Centre and the coffee shop in Minions to make a good few hours of it.
Great for all abilities young or old and like a lot of Cornwall The Hurlers are absolutely free of charge.

Firstly if you are approaching with the radio mast on the hill on your left, then there is the free car park on the left. if you end up in minion village then you have missed the car park! It’s not best sign posted just to warn you.

Car park is not massive but we didn’t have any problems parking. To walk to the stone circles from the car park it’s poorly signposted and no obvious path. If you head out to the left as you enter the car park then you will find the stone circles.

Have to say the stones themselves are not that impressive, however don’t be put off, the walk around and the surrounding areas are beautiful and we had a lovely walk around (sheep and cows are roaming freely) and the dog enjoyed it. On a clear day you can see the sea in the distance.

I suggest good walking trainers or shoes as underfoot can be a bit difficult in places.

Enjoyed and spent about 1-1/2 hours walking here, could easily spend longer if you like walking.

Village is only a short walk away if you fancy a tea and cake from the cafe or a pint in the pub.

We arrived mid afternoon and were lucky to get a spot in the free car park just outside Minions. Easy walking and in no time you’re at the stone circles. Man made, but when? Whatever, they’re interesting. Around if you use your imagination you can see more stones in circles! However the three main ones have had several of the stones erected and the area is clear. The pipers, turned to stone for playing on a Sunday, looked like a pair of gate posts. You can choose to visit what the map says is ancient settlements, field systems and hut circles to the North East or you can aim at the Cheesewring to the North on the horizon (we did). It’s by a quarry. The stones on Stowes hill are spectacular. Very interesting vertical arrangements of weathered stones to climb up to and wander round. Good fun and a good view of the surrounding moors and the remnants of mining. A good hour or so of interesting man made and nature made features.

We went here as we were visiting the area. The kids were most excited about the sheep, ponies and cows being very close to them. We spent about an hour here, the ground was fine to walk on and parking wasn't an issue. There are public toilets just round the corner too.

I'd have liked a bit more information on the buildings that are new the stone cirlces but that is my only recommendation.

We parked at The Hurlers car park and enjoyed walking around the Hurlers and absorbing the age of the stone circles. Even better was the one mile walk up to The Cheesewring stones which is not strenuous and well worth it , especially for the photo opportunity. There were clearly a lot of more extended walks we could have taken and worth returning for. The walk was easy on a bright sunny September day - it would be interesting to see the area when the weather was more challenging.

We wandered up through the minions and the cows, taking in the sites and countryside. WE also headed up through the stones to take in the panoramic views of bodmin and both south and north coast lines. A beautiful day and a lovely walk.

Only posting because I only found out about this little gem via trip advisor. Was quite a busy place but plenty of room in the minions car park. Fabulous walk around the circles and up the escarpment followed by lovely drink in the Cheesewringers Pub. Definitely worth a visit!!

Difficult to review-what can you say about a stone circle other than it is worthwhile walking to and poses lots of questions about who put the stones there, why and how?
Carry on past the stones up to the Cheesewring, spectacular views on a clear day.

Having recently moved to the area, this has become our favourite evening dog walk. The views are amazing. Some of the best sunsets. No matter how many times I go I still love seeing the stones and being in the moorland. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Perhaps easy to skip but it is worthwhile to go and see. And once on your way: also visit The Cheesewring stones, only 1.5 miles further on
