The basilica and the area around is the lest visited part of the city on the opposite of Trulli houses hill, but still with some charm. Nice architecture to admire even the interior is not stunning as other Puglia churches. The basilica dominates the city, entrance free. I preferred this area as less people strolled around.

Rich in simplistic beauty. Nice architecture on the outside. Being a relatively small community, the interior is not overly ornate. I liked the statues of Cosma and Damiano (maybe because I’m partial to those shades of blue and green), whom after the Basilica was named to honour. Being a house of God, I’ll rate it as Excellent.

In 1635 a small church was built with a painting on the altar of Madonna between Saints Cosmas and Damian. The present Basilica was constructed in 1882 in the same spot as the 1635 chapel. The entry portal is 17 steps above street level and topped with a lunette of Christ on the cross-surrounded by 6 saints. The entry portal is flanked by two bell towers, which are connected by a balustrade. The interior is a single nave design with barrel roofed side chapels. There are two wooden statues of Cosma and Damiano from the 18th century.

Most visitors to Alberobello come to see the trulli houses and do not pay much attention to other sights but this church should definitely not be passed unnoticed - you have to walk past it if you want to find Trullo Sovrano all the same.
The impressive building dominates the main street and its beautiful portal overlooks the surrounding houses and shops. To the right of the main entrance stands a statue to Pope John Paul II and also the door itself is worth paying attention to. Inside, the church is quite modern with beautifully decorated ceilings and statues of S.S Cosma and Damian. There are possibly more interesting and famous churches in the region, but this one is worth a visit as well.

This church is a little bit beige compared to other much more ornate churches but it does have a rather impressive front door.

An ideal location for silent prayer and reflection aside from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.

Walk up the Main Street towards the top of the hill and you can see this imposing, but plan basilica. The inside is very interesting and has several statues, busts, including Pope Paul ll. well worth a look

Most visitors to Alberobello come to see the trulli houses and it is only a 10/15 minute walk from them to reach the Basilica. It is definitely worth the walk especially if you are visitng Trullo Sovrano which is a few minutes further up the road.

Lovely Basilica near all the trulli cottages. Very peaceful & well maintained. Nicely lit at night. Bells ring on the hour & sometimes for a long time on a Saturday night which can be quite noisy, if you have a moment it is worth going in.
