We visited as part of a WW2 Bomber Command tour of Europe. We stopped here at the museum which is packed with artifacts and information. Items are displayed well with excellent explanations. The museum covers through the early years of flight and the development of aircraft and WW2.

Clearly a labour of love. An excellent visit and recommended, located on the outskirts of Hannover.

The airplane museum in Hannover is a diamond on the rough. Nestled in what looks to be an industrial park, this is a great time capsule of aviation history, relics, and pioneers. The staff are obviously loving practitioners of the recovery and restoration arts. There are many fully restored aircraft, as well as accurate reproductions, memorabilia, historic equipment, and photos. My only criticism is that unless you speak/read German, it’s pretty much a visual experience only. I know it’s a museum in Germany; and I know it’s a museum devoted to German aviation history and heritage. But there are exhibits on both World Wars, as well as on peacetime aviation developments and events. American, British, even Russian aircraft are represented as well (and in fairness, there are a few English translations scattered throughout; but only a few). I would love to have been able to enjoy more than just pictures and models. I was there almost two hours and could have stayed all day if I could have read the explanations. Vignettes of the greats in German aviation, war heroes, aircraft inventors and designers...all would be better enjoyed with some translations. Great stop during the day anyway...

Just arrived at 4:04 in front of the entrance door - a woman is smoking just outside and tell me the entrance closed at 4:00.
Back to the hotel.
Thanks

More than 4,500 exhibits on 3,500 square meters, including 37 full-size historical aircraft and 30 piston engines and jet engines from all sectors of civil and military aviation, legendary aircraft such as Messerschmitt, Mig, Focke-Wulf, the famous 'Spirit of St. Louis', aviator uniforms, and many artifacts. A must, if you are fun of aviation.

The museum has it all from the birth of aviation to the First and Second World Wars and the Jet Age. Ticket prices are cheap, parking is free and it is an informative way to spend an afternoon. Many of the plaques are in Germany only, however.

A tram trip from the city centre, then a good 10 minute walk great exhibits, thoroughly enjoyed it looks like it's been built in the middle of an industrial estate if travelling with someone with walking difficulties a taxi would be a good option. Exhibits are ground floor, exhibits include Starfighter, An2, engines, models etc.
