This beach is the longest one in this area with some natural caves with access from the beach, so there are some places with shadow which is very good for a day which you spend in sun. The only negative thing are the medium size rocks which are forming the beach. You have to wear properly shoes otherwise it is paint-full for your feet. The water is crystal clear and is becoming deep very close to the shore.

Tons of boat charters from Cala Gonone port will take you to the beaches of the Golfo Orsei. With a 6 year old we decided to just spend the day at Cala Luna. No words are needed with the photos. Great swimming and snorkeling, caves to explore, snack bar/bar and ability to rent beach equipment.

Let’s start from some facts: about 2 hours to go there on feet with no rush and some photo breaks. About 5,5 km from the end of a road to Cala Fuili. Most of route is not difficult, but especially on the final segment there are some rocks with which you should help yourselves with hands. Recommend some trek shoes or at least sneakers with no slippery soles. It’s definitely worth to do and see spectacular views both during a trek and being on a beach. There is also nice bar/restaurant close to the beach where you can eat or drink. Toilets as well.

I would be absolutely amazed with Cala Luna if I hadnt seen the other beaches in the Golfo. The beach is beautiful (really !!!) but also most crowded. Therefore I'd prioritize the other less crowded beaches but it is really a nice one also.

We did a boat trip along the coast line which included a visit to Cala Luna. It is such a unique stunning beach and the caves are so cool. The water was also cystal clear and beautiful. It was great in the afternoon because all though the sun sets on the otherside of the cliffs, there was still sunlight.

There is a wonderful trail that parallels the gorgeous coastline along the famous Golfo de Orosei between Cala Fuili and Cala Luna that is definitely worth a round trip day hike for the adventurous and footworthy. We stayed in Cala Gonone, which is a perfect base for exploring this extraordinarily scenic, rugged, and wild coastline. Walk, drive, or catch a ride south on the coast road from Cala Gonone, about 4 km to its terminus on a cliff above Cala Fuili. The mountains plunge to the sea all along this stretch and there are great views. The trail that starts at the road end follows the coast on the shoulder of the mountain in and out of little canyons for 7 km to the beach of Cala Luna. If you are walking from Cala Gonone that's a total of 11 km one way, or 22 km round trip since you cannot get a room in Cala Luna. (There is no road and only a small restaurant at Cala Luna, which is a miracle in and of itself.) I don't recommend the whole 22 km round trip, so if you can't drive to the trail head arrange to take a boat either from Cala Gonone to Cala Luna and walk back on the trail, or take the trail to Cala Luna and catch a boat back to Cala Gonone. There are many operators who offer this service, especially in the summer. You'll find them in kiosks on the streets near the port in Cala Gonone. We even had one guy try to sell us a boat ride from Cala Fuili to Cala Luna right at the end of the road. There is also a small boat dock at Cala Luna where you can hire a boat ride back. We hiked both ways, from Cala Fuili to Cala Luna and back (14 km round trip), leaving our rental car parked on the side of the road above Cala Fuili, along with 50 other tourists. It took most of the day and was well worth it! You need sturdy shoes because the trail is very rocky. It is obvious and well-marked for those who are comfortable and experienced hiking in the backcountry. For novices it might be a challenge. There is some up and down but not excessive. Interesting vegetation, occasionally some spectacular views, and a great beach and lagoon and limestone canyon awaiting you at trail's end. There's also, as noted above, a little family owned modest cafe-bar-restaurant to serve tourists. We had cappuccino and soda water then hiked a km or so up the lonely and fascinating canyon whose outwash forms the lagoon and beach. On our return we had another shot of caffeine and cold selzer water before starting the trek back. We saw others quaffing beer, wine, and even one person ordered fresh grilled fish. As others, like Devina B have noted on Trip Advisor, this might be too crowded in peak summer months to be enjoyable. We went in late May and it was still pretty peaceful, but it was also a record-breaking cold month of May (2013)--windy and too cold to swim--so I think a lot of potential tourists were discouraged from heading to the beach. If you like to hike and like wild country and the meeting of mountains and sea. this is the trip for you. See my attached photos.

Visited this beach after reading some many nice reviews on TA. It is a lovely beach but getting there is not as easy as some put it.
We're a 32 yo couple who enjoyed hikig every now and then and we did struggle in some parts, especially because some areas are really narrow, the rocks are sharp and there isn't anywhere to hold onto, other than a few branches and more rocks.
We hoped we could get a boat back but there was no boats(maybe due to being the end of September). It took us around 2.5h hours to get there and more or less the same to go back. We did take a wrong turn kn the way back but we realised soon enough!
There's no real signage so look out for small marks of paint along the way. We did come across a few people so that's helpful.
Once on the beach the bar was closed but luckily it wasn't too busy either. Spent just under 2 hours there because wanted to leave on time. It can get rrally windy so beware of sandstorm ruining your lunch as it happened to us 😂
Overall nice experience and would recommend only if:
- you wear appropriate boots/trainers(I wore my nike trainers amd was fine)
- take water (a big bottle per person) and food/snacks
-start earlyish so you don't have to rush to get back
- Are slightly fit and used to go on long walks, hikes etc

Easiest way to get here is by boat from Cala Gonone. It takes about 45 mins and is about 8 euros return per person.Choose a boat company that has frequent services ( there are a load to choose from at the port).Your ticket will only be valid for that supplier.

The better ones go about every hour, have a gap a a few hours in the middle of the day and then come back every hour.

There is a bar/cafe but best to take own food and drink and also sun screen and a sun brolly.

There are caves to explore and shelter from the sun in and some people set up in the cave entrances to get out of the sun.

The sea is calm and the beach is sandy and in the shape of a quarter moon ( hence name).

It is backed by high cliffs and only accessible by sea ( or a long hike ( 10 KM ish).Which adds to its exclusivity. The sand can be gritty particularly near the sea but it is a lovely spot and well worth a day out.

The hike from Cala Fuili to Cala Luna takes around 2 hours for 4 km. The scenic path goes through juniper and mastic trees, the coastal views are breathtaking as you get close to Cala Luna. Cala Luna is very beautiful, but you are not alone. Walk to the left on the beach to find more space around the cave-pitted cliffs. Hiking boots are a must and take 2 liter water/person. Easy to navigate, path is signposted. For the way back we took the boot to Cala Gonone, arranged at Cala Luna. You will be driven from the harbor to the parking place at Cala Fuili when you wish.
Combine the hike to Cala Luna with a visit to the Grotta del Bue Marino. Absolute fantastic to visit the cave by foot. Much better than the Neptuno Grotto in Alghero. Takes about 45 minutes to walk from Cala Fuili to the entrance of the Bue Marino Grotto, also easy signposted path. Guided visits on the full hour up to noon, check time table for guided tours and take cash. We paid 10 Euro/person. This was the most impressive cave visit in Sardinia.

We took a boat over to Cala Luna, it was one of the stops along the coast. We were there in August so it is very high season as the Italians vacation is August as well. There is a snack bar panini, gelato, coffee, water etc. There is also vendors walking around selling fresh pineapple and coconuts. The water is beautiful and if you walk down far enough you can escape some crowds, as this stetch of beach is very long... next time we visit Sardegna we plan in going in June... enjoy!
