I adored this museum. Not only did it have so many beautiful and unique carretti, but it had much more! Even an interactive animal children's section. I highly recommend this museum to anyone passing through Terrasini. Terrasini itself is adorable and has a beautiful beach with faragliani rocks, a quaint city center with delicious restaurants and a breathtaking Duomo.

We went here in May while visiting Terrasini. It is not a large museum but it is packed with local history. We loved the artifacts lifted from the ocean but really enjoyed the exhibition of Sicilian carts. We also had a very, very nice gentleman leap to our aid and guide us through. Our daughter can understand Italian and she helped translate. His enthusiasm for the exhibit added to our enjoyment. A hidden gem well worth a stroll through.

There are a few different sections to this museum. As an adult the exhibits in the Cart section were interesting. In the summer there are many festivals in and around Terrasini and the rest of Sicily where colourful carts are pulled by well dressed horses. All accompanied by music and dancing. These are a selection of the many carts that are used.
The younger children preferred the stuffed animals on the first floor. Quite a few that are sadly extinct.
We were accompanied by a curator, which I thought initially would be a little oppresive, but he didn't encroach, and was there to tell us lots of interesting things.

We are traveling off season. The staff welcoming and personally guided us thru local fauna, historic marine items, birds and superbly painted carts.
We really felt an excellent find.

I believe this is my favorite site to see in Sicily. Went to old location then on a second trip visited the new large museum. The carretti displays are huge and beatiful..

I took a taxi here from my hotel. I was the only patron at that time, they had just opened. Two gentlemen working or just locals followed me through the entire museum somewhat rushing me, motioning which way I was to walk. I don't look menacing and I only had my purse and a small camera with me. It was very confusing. There surely wasn't anything I could steal. Also the lights could have been a little brighter to see the beautiful carts with more light. Also the grounds need some work on the abundant weeds. Other than that, a great exhibition.

We came here yesterday and had lots of fun. Children are free (I don't know what the ages are for being free), and adults are 5€ each.
Thing first area you go into is full is pottery archaeologists pulled from the sea. It's interesting and you find out what they stored before settling on the sea bed. There's a video about everything they found, but it's in Italian only, so if you don't know Italian, you're stuffed! Also, most of the signs are in Italian and only some in English. No signs in other languages.
You then go to to a room about the sea, boats and fishing. There's a notice about turtles and it's really nice as you find out more about it.
After that its evolution and then carts.

I gave this museum 4 stars, because it's interesting and a place not to miss, but the only signs are in Italian and a little bit in English, and that's all.

This is an excellent museum which is well worth a visit if you are in the area, and would appeal to all ages. While it does have a fabulous collection of the famous decorated Sicilian carts, it has so much more, including a very informative natural history section. It was quiet the day we went and one of the gentlemen gave us a tour, which is just as well or we would have missed the charming display of nocturnal animals native to the region.

We stayed at Miss Sicily's great b&b for four nights. She recommended a visit to this museum. It was a pleasant surprise! They had artifacts from the sea, marine life, birds, reptiles. To top it off they have an amazing collection of carts. We spent an hour and a half and it was not enough. We went right before closing time. It was not crowded at all. Overall, it provided a great insight into life in this area. Most enjoyable. It could have used more information in English though.
