We had heard about Tulian lake trek as a must do thing when in Pahalgam and we are delighted to say that we can't agree more. Trek to Tulian lake was rewarding with not just the wonderful views that it offered but also due to the hospitality of High hills trek team. We did a 2 days 1 night camping with them. At the time we trekked, it was just our tent in the vicinity and hence it felt like a magical experience. Tulian lakes' magical colours became alive in the morning that left us awestruck.

We started our trek with Sabzar bhai & his team Riyaaz bhai , Manzoor bhai on the note 'the most beautiful views come after the hardest climb'. For us, it was not just an enthralling experience but also a learning experience , how this entire trek involved so much meticulous planning from High Hills trek. Ensuring that we eat fruits during those mini breaks, arranging for raincoats, cooking finger licking food in the middle of nowhere during our stay at the base camp, having enough warm blankets and frequently sipping tea, coffee, kehwa felt like a luxury and we were in awe to be at the receiving end of such hospitality.

Arrangements of bonfire, providing torchlight during the night & cool night breeze really felt that there is so little one needs to be happy in life.

We highly recommend highhills trek for they take care of each and everything during your trek. Price may initially feel to be on a higher side but every penny spent is worth the experience. One just needs to soak in the beauty around & enjoy what comes next in each and every moment of your trekking experience!

It was my Solo trip. Destination- Pahalgam, Tulian Lake.

The trek was led by Subzar from High Hills Trek and Tours.

Right from organising the trek and ensuring that I ws motivated at all times ( dur yo the steep climb), Subzar managed it all

Lunch and apples were provided enroute as energy boosters

The base camp for Tulian was carefully selected, ( food non veg included) was out of the world.

The arrangement was perfect. No room for error.

This was my 2nd time with High Hills Trek and Tours and all I can say is that they are getting better.

So to caution you this isn't an easy trek or the journey even on the pony. If you haven't trekked or do any physical activity . Then let it be just turn on YouTube and watch the lake because it's not your cup of tea. If you think you're physically fit and can take the chance then please go ahead . The journey starts from pahalgam to baisaran where you take your first stop. Takes 30 mins to that place. Then you start your journey through the forest for almost 1.5 - 2 hours . Then reach the top of the hill and then walk another 30 mins you'll reach the tulian valley, where there is almost 30-40 mins walk to the foothill of the mountain from where lake water flows. The trek starts on foot and honestly it took me 2 hours to climb 4 kms. This trek wasn't easy but hard was level . The lack of oxygen and the lack of temperature gets to you at some point and you need to push your self . It's not an easy task , the way down is even more scary and tiring because you will be totally drained out from the pony ride. The lake you get to and then see the lake then sit there for some time but you have to leave by 3-330 maximum to avoid getting stuck in the forest in the dark. It's highly recommend to leave when it's bright and reach pahalgam by 7pm. Please don't walk around the forest area in the night, so plan accordingly. The ride back was not that good because we were too exhausted and drained and then we were like just get us back we have had enough of this . So if you're trying I would say don't do it unless you really want to because the after effects are too bad where next two days we slept . The temperature on top near the lake was too low and we needed gloves and jackets and everything to keep ourselves warm .

One of the most heavenly beauties witnessed on earth, Tulian valley is about 12-13 kms. from Pahalgam; ascend about 2 kms. further, and you reach Tulian Lake. To reach this place, you may either trek your way up [this needs to be comfortably a 3-day program] or hire a pony. We opted for the latter. The pathway leading to the valley is a mixture of steep, not-so-steep, dense, narrow and without-a-definite trails. Abdul Rahman, the guide and Mastaan, the pony, had a remarkable sense of navigation. Under their direction, you may as well enjoy the sights en route, where you may find a mixture of native plantations, locals chopping up deodar trees [used for making houseboats] and the abodes of sheep and shepherds. Apparently, these dwellings are vacated during winter owing to the snow and lack of fodder for the sheep; they return in April.

Tulian valley is the pit stop for the ponies to rest, as the trail upwards is not designed for their foot. As a result of the sheer steepness laid out with stones and pebbles of all shapes and sizes, the last 2-km. stretch needs to be covered on foot. The climb may look deceptively easy; it took us more than 2 hours to climb up and get to the lake. The altitude combined with the lack of oxygen can get the better of you. However, given you keep the climb slow and yet steady, it becomes comparatively stress-free.

It is worth all the discomfort, once you get to the lake as you tend to forget all other worldly creations. It takes about 2-3 minutes to digest the lake’s pristine beauty. As we had travelled in the last week of October, the surrounding mountains no doubt were bursting with snow, but also, the lake had a thin layer of ice. Just imagine, the lake, serene and calm with no ripple up to a point, after which you see a miniscule wave caressing the banks. On closer observation, we figured it’s ice only up to a point, and what’s more, since the layer was thin, you could break it with your hands [God, our hands froze too quickly], and taste the lake water underneath! It was yet another one-of-a-kind experience, when you could slide the broken ice pieces over the lake, only to see them slide ever so smoothly - similar to the slick slides King Kong had in the movie!

Although it took us 6 hours to reach the lake, where we spent about a half hour, and another 5 hours to descend and reach our place of stay, that half hour is rather spent pricelessly, and cherished more often than not in the days to come. The experience is unquestionably impossible to forget and stays alive for longer than a long time. A must-visit, especially if you’re the kind on a lookout for spots that hasn’t been exploited by mankind yet.

Its one of the best 1 day Trek from Pahalgam, 15 kms from Pahalgam, Its a Beautiful 8 shaped lake, but the trek is very steep especially in the last stretch, so any person who is into trekking its highly recommended, also one can take a pony with guide to visit Tulyan Lake.

It's a hefty hike....24 km round trip and about 5,000 ft elevation gain. We walked the whole thing, but ponies would be great for most of the way, then hike the last 2-3 km straight up! We got snow in late October...be prepared! We were so glad we had brought our rain jackets and hiking boots! Shaban is a great guide for this trek!

Breathtaking is the word to describe this. Amazing view of the lake.

It is 2 hours of pony ride then 2:30 hours of trek of last 1.5 km. it is a tough trek but worth it when you will see the lake. It is just amazing and breathtaking.

You have to choose the right pony rider. We are grateful to Riyaz and Muzzafar for their help throughout the ride. They are very responsible, knowledgable about the route and area, and well trained.

You need to be careful on taking the right guides.
Our pony guides told us 2 hours by pony and 2 km trek. We went off only to reach a beautiful glacier in a meadow. There we were told path is not suitable to go. When we insisted, he took us up a mountain till we said enough, we cant go further ( may have been a wrong route ). We then came back.
We did not see the lake but the glacier, meadow and hill climb was great. ( see pictures attached )
This place is ?K...mal.
The pony ride to Baisaran can be extended to this place.

Tulian lake is located about 15 kms from pahalgam.
We went in September, so there wasn't much snow. The weather was perfect, we dint even need jackets.
It took us about 4 hours to get there - a combination of horse ride and trekking. You have to walk about 4-5 kms in the end on rocky terrain- it is a difficult climb
You definitely need a guide - it may be a little difficult to find your way up there.
But once you get up there te view is absolutely stunning.
The lake is closed in summer - so do check before you plan a trip

Mesmerizing and Beautiful.
One must Hire a Pony to reach this lake as this trek is quite steep and dangerous after sunset. Leave Early Morning and better return before sunset.
