We have visited this amazing viewpoint many times since coming to this part of Italy 20 years ago.
It has never failed to surprise us and we discover something different every time.
Unfortunately, this time we discovered a building site and a cafe at the top which replaced the little " chiosco".
It was run by surly staff who actually told us to leave our table if we had finished eating and drinking as it was needed for other customers. We couldn't see anyone waiting!
One ill equipped filthy portaloo served the hundreds of tourists there. It was perched next to the car park. There were no disabled facilities. The playground was down a perilous flight of steps and not accessible if you have a buggy.
Fortunately for us, the viewing area had not changed and the clear sky gave us a good view.
Hopefully when the building work is over, the facilities will improve. I will be back to see.

My dad had been wishing to see it for a long time, so we decided to visit it. Just only one word to describe it: AMAZING! You can see Switzerland and the Lugano Lake. There’s also a very little church… you will love it!

Beautiful hill with magnificent viewpoint, it’s called the balcony of Italy, from here you can see many Italian and Switzerland lakes and beautiful mountains that divide Italy and Switzerland

Unforgettable and spectacular view of Switzerland (Lago di Lugano) from Italy. To reach to this place you can use a really beautiful jungle road around 8 km from Lanzo.

One of the must see sights when in the area! Stunning views overlooking the Alps. We visited at the end of September, and the weather was still all sunny and mild, around 23°C.
I recommend not to drive your car all the way up to the parking area at the to, but drop some 1500-2000m before already, where a smaller parking area is, and have a nice and leisurely hike up through the forest.

About a 20 minute drive from Argegno, the road itself to the gallery is very narrow (about 1.5 cars width), and the road surface itself is pretty bad in places. A word of warning also; there are no barriers lining the road, except for a few brief places, and the drops are pretty serious, as you climb the mountain. There are memorials to accident victims all up the mountain, which is sobering.
At the top, there is a small car park, and its a short walk (under 100m) to the gallery itself. At the summit, there is a small ice-cream stand. There are toilets there, but these are portaloos. I didn't spot any accessible services though.
The Italian gallery (which is the highest of the two galleries) is the larger and better of the two, and the gallery has plaques dotted around the edge to show you what you're looking at. The Swiss gallery is accessed by going back towards the ice-cream stand, and walking down the gravel path past the children's play area. The Swiss gallery is small, and the safety barriers are simply concrete road dividers. The Swiss gallery also has half the view of the Italian one. It does, however, have the decommissioned ski-lift machine (if that floats your boat).
The views are without doubt the most stunning views you will see in your life. From the Italian gallery you can see most of Lago di Lugano, Lugano itself, as well as Lago di Maggiore. You have an unimpeded view of the Western Alps, as well as the pre-alps. You can also see the Po Valley plain, and on the day we could easily see parts of Milan.
Its an absolute must in my books, and completely free access. We went on a Monday morning, and it was very quiet. Speaking to a local in the village below the mountain, it appears to be a very much under-appreciated location.

Got here at about 12 on a clear day. The view is stunning. In fact, I think this is the best view I have seen in my life. On a clear day, you can see the hills on the coast of the Mediterranean, Matterhorn, Monte rosa, and all the way around to what I think is Austria.
If you are in the area, do not miss this!
P.S. Take it slow on the roads, they are frightening some places.

This is a superb viewing spot for Lago di Lugano and the surrounding Alps. On a clear day you can see The Matterhorn and even the Mediterranean, such is the height and vista from this place. The drive up from Lugano can present a challenge to those unsure of their driving but it's worth it. There are some superb restaurants nearby and a local 9 hole golf course which looks delightful.

Having a free day with National Holidays another guest and I had a very pleasant walk up to the viewpoint and back. Cyril 84 years young and myself walked the just over seven mile return route from the Hotel Milano Lanzo D'Intelvi. This walk can be done all on tarmac if you wish, Cyril being the adventurous type lead the way up and down. We walked on tarmac for the first two miles then at the Café Scuola Sci Valle D'intelvi, Cyril struck left up on a marked track into the woods to rejoin the road near the top. Our reward was to see a deer glazing in the woods. see photos.
At the top we enjoyed a coffee in Italy while looking over Switzerland. After the coffee break Cyril lead the way into Switzerland. Walk back downhill around 20 yards past the café to pick up a path on the right. This path leads you into Switzerland and the Swiss viewpoint. see photos.
Our way back to Hotel Milano Cyril lead the way mainly off road, using the walk/cycling routes through the woods. The route does come out in a different part of Lanzo, but just follow the signs for the centre and Monica's bar where we had a well deserved drink. see photos.
We took the walk at a very easy pace and with 2 longish stops we did the round trip walk (hotel to hotel) of over seven miles in 5 hours.
To end may I thank "young at heart" Cyril for a very pleasant day out.

As fantastic as everyone says, bring a warm jacket as it can get chilly up there. Couples, I think this is the perfect place for a proposal, just make sure the ring doesn't get blown over the side! Note, you drive into lanzo D'intelvi, and then look for signs on the right hand side, the map coordinates are a touch misleading.
