About
Majestic, essential, powerful: these are the three adjectives that best describe this castle. A stone cube built in the late fourteenth century by Yblet of Challant on the rock overlooking the town of Verrès, in perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape. The military character of this building perfectly melts with elegant carved stone details decorating its windows, doors and shelves of monumental chimneys. A stunning staircase with flying buttresses reaches the upper floors. Every year the halls of the castle hosts the traditional carnival characters of Verrès, in a blend of history and legend.

One of the first castle without fortified walls can be seen here in above the city of Verres at the beginning of the Val d’Ayas.
It was built in 1390 by Ibleto di Challant

The castle is empty, but worth a visit. The slove path to walk to the castle is quite tiring but once you are there, just pay 3 euros to enter the castle. One could say it's quite simple and plain, but it's not like that. It's amazing how every little particular was studied and there for a porpouse.and it was built in the XIV century! If you happen to be there, just go and see it!

Just a few steps up the hill and you have a beautiful view to the mountains around you and the little village Verres.

The Verres castle is from the 1400's it's a "rock solid" fortress, there's no furniture inside, but it's worth visiting to get a feeling of how life used to be!
It's a quick visit and it's about €$3,00 per person.
To reach the castle there's short walk but it's all uphill and a bit inclined, so you have some walking limitations I don't think it's a good program.
