Zittau, the southeasternmost town in the German state of Saxony, is a little pearl. The centre of the town is full of marvellous buildings and lovely fountains. Spare at least half a day to explore it at your own pace.

Saxon Land with incredible landscape and beautiful castles near the border of three Countries: Poland and the Czech Republic. When driving you don't get to know where you are exactly. Only if you pay cash one realizes that you may not have the right currency!!! But the sensation you feel is that We are Europeans. No barriers, no walls
but bridges that connect three Nations

The heart of Zittau is the Markt where lies this beautiful City Hall. The tourist information office is also conveniently situated on the ground floor of the City Hall, you'll find all possible info and books about the city and the neighboring areas. The Markt place itself is well worth spending some time looking at the beautiful buildings that hints at Zittau's former glory.

Came here to travel on the wonderful narrow guage railway that runs from the main station. Enjoyed our time in the town to and found the local people very welcoming.

An enchanting ancient town which has with all incorporated parts less than 28,000 inhabitants but offers many wonderful beautiful buildings and a historical town ensemble today is located in the far eastern corner of Saxons. Czechia and Poland are directly adjacent European neighboring countries and at the same time also catchment area of the easternmost university town of Saxony. The historical city hall shows a big council hitting hall with references to the city fathers from many centuries. The stairwell as a staircase to the council chamber deems civil history worthy of the 19th century. Against this the extensive cellar rooms probably aren't all accessible any more, happiest celebrations got celebrated here within last days anyway.
City hall square is at present redesigned structurally and invites visitors to staying.

I had great expectations about Zittau, but I considered Goerlitz a much nicer city than Zittau. That said, the Rathaus is monumental, and a bit strange as well. I had this experience everywhere in the city, as if things cannot be harmonious here. Perhaps they had to reconstruct a lot after WW II. It's a nice building on a nice square, but there are nicer places in Germany.
