Cerkovka means "a little church" in Russian. Origin of the name will be obvious if you look at it - a real dome. Russians love various legends and many even seem to believe them. As far as that rock is concerned, people say there once was a sterile man who touched it and immediately became prolific as a rabbit. Made his girlfriends happy!
As to us, we visited it on a sunny August day (not to touch it!). The sky was cloudless but still an obvious haze was noticeable - Yakutian forest fires reached even Altai. About 3,000 kilometers' distance! In any case, though, it did not impede us taking pictures and filming so we used our time quite fruitfully.
One can really grab a bite there, buy some souvenirs and get chummy with chipmunks and nuthatches. The latter are on alert while the former are rather bold (or brazen?).
Panorama opening from the top is awestriking, really. Do also mind that slopes of the mountain are not very steep so in summer one can easily take a walk down. In rush hours that would be an even more effective alternative due to an endless queue to the cableway.

We were there in the beginning of August together with our private guide Vyacheslav who, actually, was the one to bring us there. We'd told him that we'd prefer a drive, he rented a minivan for us and approached the sight as close as possible - just half a kilometer walk.
One might say the rock is nothing special, just another creation of Mother Nature but I'd argue that it is really worth seeing. One important moment, however, is that you'd better go there on a weekday and in late afternoon. You'd thus avoid crowds and take advantage of natural lighting when taking pictures and filming. I'd also add that in case of inclement weather there's no point going there unless you're a "rock-fan" (wow, what a pun!) - there's a forest path leading up there so you'll have all chances to be mucky all over.
NB! There're no toilets or food booths there. I mean, at all.

Tripadvisor automated translators produced another chef d'oeuvre!!! It seems to become their good tradition.
We saw that rock in mid-August when on a private tour of Belokurikha. Our excellent guide Vyacheslav brought us four to a chairlift to the hill overlooking the town and we took a walk there.
The Turtle rock is not very far from the Tserkovka one (Tripadvisor prefers to call it Cerkovka Mountain - see my review) but one needs a guide to show the way to it since it nestles in the forest while corresponding signs are missing.
It's big, quirky and photogenic. There was practically no-one around so we took pictures and enjoyed our time there.

Another name for it is Pancakes for a Mother-in-Law.
We were there in August, four of us. The day was wonderful. It was about twenty-four plus Celsius but a cool breeze made our climb a pleasure - no mosquitos! The rock is reachable practically for everybody.
Why Mother-in-Law's pancakes then? Well, look at it - it resembles a pile of them, doesn't it? The point is that when Maslenitsa comes to Russia (sort of Western Shrovetide with its Carnival), close relatives go to each other and a married daughter makes pancakes for her visiting mother who's, in her turn, is mother-in-law to her daughter's husband. It is essential to make them as many as possible since her mum never comes alone but rather with her numerous girlfriends.
As to the rock, we loved it and I recommend seeing it to everyone. It's time-consuming, however.
