Worth a visit even if you don't buy a ticket. Impressive gates and towers. Not far from city centre. You can also see the Scottish Parliament and Arthur's Seat.

I was here on Saturday 3rd Feb 24 with my 20 year old son and his gf. Being a McKinney, we have derived from MacKenzie (owners of the castle), so we were all looking forward to this tour. We were met by a very interesting and knowledgeable tour guide named Richard. He was so engaging and passionate about the history of the castle and made the whole experience so much more fascinating. He made this the best part of our trip. I really think his boss needs to seriously consider giving him a raise as he deserves it 100%. The youngsters adored his story telling skills and said it was the best experience they had during our visit to Western Scotland. We will be recommending this experience to everyone, everyone needs to meet Richard😁

It was reasonably priced at £12. We had no wait, there was sufficient parking and fabulous views. There is a great gift shop on site and a cafe, although I didn't use the cafe.

    Highly recommended

This site provides a wonderful insight into Neolithic life in Orkney. We found it breathtaking & awe-inspiring. Our guide provided a great deal of information that really animated our experience. We had been wanting to visit for years, and it did not disappoint. Do not miss this!

I pay NTS membership just for this place. It's amazing, great fora nice walk, the castle is gorgeous when it's open in the summer and the adventure playground is so good I drive an hour to get there. Be sure to stop by the walled garden too!

I didn't get to play the course, but just being present was spine tingling to stay the least.
We were able to walk a few holes and had a great look around, what a magnificent place to visit.

Urquhart Castle's origins can be traced back to the 13th century, with its strategic location making it a key stronghold during Scotland's turbulent history. Over the centuries, the castle witnessed numerous battles and sieges, playing a crucial role in shaping the nation's destiny.

Exploring the ruins of Urquhart Castle is a truly captivating experience. From the imposing gatehouse to the crumbling towers, each section of the castle tells a story of bygone days. The views from the castle grounds, overlooking the tranquil waters of Loch Ness, are simply breathtaking, providing a glimpse into the majestic beauty of Highlands.

The visitor centre features informative exhibits detailing the history of Urquhart Castle and its significance in Scottish history.

While wandering through the ruins, be sure to take in the stunning vistas of Loch Ness and the surrounding countryside.

We visited on Monday 04th September 2023 on Day 3 of the British Isles Discovery 10-Day Cruise on Ambience. Here at our first port of call at Kirkwall, Orkney Isles it was a beautiful morning and we went for a walk around Kirkwall which is dominated by the St Magnus Cathedral. Though less impressive as a structure than all other cathedrals it still has an air of majesty, though in miniature form. There was a tomb of John Rae, a 19th-century Arctic explorer. Rae's role in establishing the loss of a previous expedition was covered in a talk given on board the ship later in the cruise. Outside was the St Magnus Cross re-creation (the originals now inside) on the spot where verbal contracts were sealed.

We loved our visit here! There was lots of information but the best part is the volunteers. We met Lily who used to work in the mill and showed us the machines in use and gave us a wonderful explanation of her life. Really fascinating and made the trip so much better. We got the joint ticket which also lets you do the discovery point museum which is worth a visit also.

Brilliant place and so interesting to. I was spending 4 hours in the cathedral because there was so much to see. I thought the church inside was very cool.
