Mid-March is not the best time to be visiting a Scottish garden, but despite that, our visit to these Botanical Gardens was well worthwhile.

We tend to visit gardens wherever we are in the world and these Edinburgh gardens, just north of the New Town were extensive, very well maintained and contained a surprisingly wide selection of well established trees & plants. Of particular note are the significant Chinese gardens.

Like most of Edinburgh, the gardens have significant elevation changes which just adds to the visual depth of large area.

Like most major botanical garden admission is free and you could easily spend half a day here - even longer in late spring & summer.

And it’s on the blue route of the hop-on hop-off bus, with a stop right at the gates

The building and the grounds are stunning . It was a cold day but we wrapped up warm and throughly enjoyed it, to imagine the past life of this old girl .

Visiting the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow during the summer was an absolute delight! The gardens were bursting with vibrant colors, lush foliage, and the sweet scent of blooming flowers. It was a serene oasis in the heart of the city, perfect for leisurely strolls and picnics with loved ones. From the exotic plants in the glasshouses to the peaceful ponds and meandering pathways, every corner of the gardens offered a new discovery and a moment of tranquility. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply seeking a peaceful escape, the Botanic Gardens is a must-visit destination in Glasgow during the summer months.

Very interesting castle with lots of history (and weapons!). The grounds are beautiful and worth the admission even if you don't pay for the castle too. We were lucky with the weather and were able to spend most of our afternoon exploring the grounds. I found the cafe a little expensive for what it was but I suppose that's to be expected in this kind of place. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

I really enjoyed this castle - great views, a museum-like inside, great storytelling guides. This castle was upkept very well, and really allows you to see how the great scots lived even through the 20th century. Lots to see and lots to read - even some Bonnie Price Charlie ephemera.

We were quite surprised to see the crowds that were touring Cawdor Castle in mid September in the middle of the week. The place was pretty crowded. That being said, we were able to tour the interior at out leisure and were not dependent on timed tour guides.
The gardens were still in bloom and looked lovely.
There is a very large gift shop on the way out from the tour. That was crowded as well.
The parking lot was very easy to find and within close proximity to the entrance.

We’ve wanted to visit for a while but todays visit surpassed all expectations. To be fair the weather was glorious so the views out over the loch were stunning, as was our seat outside the walled garden in the sunshine ☀
Lots of lovely paths to follow with good signage and a detailed map showing which trails were more accessible meant that we managed to make sure we saw everything on offer. A lovely little robin kept us company at the high lookout.
Also visited Inverewe House which was very interesting and informative - Mairi Sawyer was a remarkable lady!
After a couple of hours exploring we were ready for a coffee and scone at Osgoods Cafe. A roomy, friendly place to sit and relax, knowing that our recycled plates and cups will provide compost for the garden in the next few weeks.

I can't recall when I've had such entertainment on a tour! The guide who greeted us at the front door knew the Queen Mother personally, and she was eager to share all sorts of tidbits about her experiences. What a delight! No photos to be taken inside, but other guides are set up to answer any questions and to give a brief description of the contents.
    The views are breathtaking.
The tea room has some yummy options and you can sit outside at a table, if you choose to do so, to enjoy your choices.
I'll just mention that the delightful guide is getting up in years, so don't take years deciding whether or not to visit.
Parking is in a lot and there is no extra cost.

Definitely visit if you’re near! Stunning gardens and lots to see. There are steep bits but lots of routes that are fairly flat and accessible. The staff are lovely and we were pleasantly surprised by the food, we expected it to be decent but the burgers and chips were well above our expectations! Good selection of food and drinks available at the cafe and the gift shop is cute too. Highly recommend a visit. Go up to the fernery, it’s steep but so worth it.

Visited on a horrible day weather wise so we wanted something interesting to do. We weren't disappointed, although this isn't a large "palace" there's quite a bit to see and the volunteers were super friendly, knowledgeable and eager to bring the property to life, their grasp of dates, lines of succession etc amazing. Thank you

We have been regulars at Threave Gardens for over forty years and feel it is currently as good as it has ever been having visited again today. We were hugely impressed by the work currently in progress. There were plenty of snowdrops to enjoy but the changes to the infrastructure look amazing- the unsightly water feature beside the path has been removed and work on the walled garden looks impressive. Care and hard work is evident throughout.
The revamped cafe not only looks great but serves really good coffee. We were served by friendly and welcoming staff.
It will be really interesting to visit again in the Spring when the garden is awake after Winter because the team managing the garden are clearly doing a superb job.
