This is an excellent museum with a modern interior over two floors in a renovated building. As well as covering Shetland history, the exhibits also include items from the past that are seen in some other museums. The exhibits are excellently laid out with clear supporting information. Some are very large including a lantern from a lighthouse. The museum also has additional limited time exhibitions and during our visit there was a display of interesting photographs of period American life by Diane Arbus. The museum also has a shop selling Shetland gifts and goods. The museum is well worth a visit

We visited this museum during a group tour of Shetland. The buildings and site have been preserved to provide an authentic view of living/life of a crofter over 100 years ago. This includes residents and animal accommodation. The stewards on duty were helpful in pointing out some of the items that could have been missed on initial inspection. There are also information "paddles" at other points in the buildings. The small site is well worth a visit.

This was our second visit to this museum. It is in a relatively modern building next to Scalloway Castle. It has many well displayed exhibits relating to historical Shetland and Scalloway life including a section on the "Shetland Bus" - a WW2 operation ferrying supplies to resistance personnel in occupied Norway. Most of the exhibits are under cover, with a small proportion outside the main building. The museum also has a small mainly self service refreshment area with supplies of coffee/ tea and packaged snacks paid for at the adjacent reception area, where the staff on duty were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful There is also a picnic area outside. The museum is well worth including in an itinerary, when visiting this part of Shetland

We visited Tangwick twice during our holiday in Shetland. The first time we spent an hour or so looking at the interesting displays and artefacts. The second time we popped in for a cup of tea as we did a circular walk from Eshaness Lighthouse. On both occasions, the volunteers on duty gave us a warm welcome, and we had a good chat. We can thoroughly recommend a visit.

Our group tour included a visit to this small museum. On arrival we were given a short talk on the mill, which is interestingly situated in a working farm. There is also a video providing information on the area and mill. As well as the water mill, there are also displays of mill/farm machinery and other items, including information folders. When we visited there was a large display of model vehicles. Space is limited in some areas of the building and a visitor route is signed to ease movement. There is also an outside yard area, and a shop, where items from Shetland can be bought. The museum is only open in the summer months, but is well worth a visit.

This is a small museum located about 2.7 km from Lerwick town centre. It is easy to find and has free parking. Entry is £3 and it is open from late April to early October. Wheelchair access is limited to the ground floor. There is not a huge amount to see but if you are interested in the whole wool thing that goes on in Shetland you will see why they are justly proud of the wool heritage. There are some interesting and some beautiful exhibits. The most interesting thing on our visit was chatting with the lady who was in charge that day and who continuously knitted a garment that looked fearsomely complicated while we talked! She provided some interesting insights to life in Shetland in the 60s and 70s. They also feature an item called the "muckle gravit" which loosely translated means the big scarf. Said scarf is currently about 160 feet long and you are invited to add a few rows to the scarf if you feel so inclined. I am not entirely sure what the end objective might be but it is a fun way of connecting visitors to the project and the place.
